I personally thing that there should be a day dedicated to all of the civilians killed in all of the wars. Look at every war and its always the civilians that are the real victims. I think the governments put so much into military remembrances in order to overshadow the true cost of all conflicts.
Wish I could have gone. My grandfather was one of the paratroopers who landed there, T/Sgt. Hugh J Goode of Greenpoint, Bklyn. He rarely talked about the war, but what he did say was that Eglise was a very difficult battle as so many men were dropped in places they were never intended to be.
