The Bens were wrong for At The Movies, and while Phillips and Scott were better choices it was all too little, too late. I would argue that Mankiewicz DID have some knowledge of films made before 1990. He does get to introduce films on Turner Classic Movies, not exactly the channel for The Hangover. Still, they should have picked Phillips & Scott over the Bens.

I think that anyone who is going to listen to film criticism should only read Pauline Kael and James Agee. Or Susan Sontag and other sort of literary minds that are aware of all art forms, but can also judge movies as its own art form: cinema.
