lol I almost died when i saw the "hugging picture"! tooo cute XD

  • I haven't seen Nina video for awhile. She is such a sweetie. She brings sunshine to my day! Tell her to keep writing !!

  • I love you Nina..this is my third day being stuck in front of my laptop just because to watch you. u remind me of my little sister. :)

  • @LynazPediatrik How old is your little sister now?

  • @geofg she will turns three this June. :)

  • @geofg she will turns three this June.

  • What was she doing with her face in the first part? Haha she is such a bright and cute kid :) Love her! :) Love from the Philippines! <3

  • @BeaBeReppin She wasn't sure if "Let's begin" was the right English or not, so her expression showed her doubt.

  • @geofg Haha well I couldn't care less she's so cute! I've been watching her videos since she was like 3. Will you say hi to Nina for me? :) - Bea x

  • @geofg

nuna loved nina's little story...! she hopes you all are ok in japan!

    /watch?v=w0lftHeJL7Q

  • @zedsj Tell Nuna we are in Nagoya, which was not damaged by the earthquake, so we are fine!

  • Yeahh ,many people in the areas are homeless. Now , Thai people are donating some money to help Japan. That's all we can do. I hope they will be ok .By the way, i'm happy to hear from you. Please know that i and my sister are big fan of Nina chan !!!

  • @KOSSMON My family have been very touched by all the countries who have donated money to Japan, even countries who have experienced tsunami themselves, like Thailand.

    Thanks for the comment!

  • yay i can read the book! ^___^

  • @CuBicHexJAxMami ha ha Nina's hiragana is a little strange in a couple places, but I'm glad you could read it!

  • I'm so sad when i heard about what happened in Japan. Hope you and your family and people in Japan be safe. My thought and prayers are with you guys. I'm sure you can go through this.

  • @KOSSMON Thank you! We will be fine. We just worry about how people in the devastated areas will be able to rebuild their lives.

  • Dear Nina's Papa,

Like in other comments I am fascinated to see Nina's ability to write, translate,&rearrange the sentences. As a mom-to-be,I intend to raise my child to be bilingual too. I notice how you converse with Nina in English and her Mama does in Japanese. But are there any other things you do to 'train' Nina's English, esp in the structure? I'm a native SouthEastAsia country, n our languange doesnt involve tenses, etc. Wld be great if u cld share some tips of yours. Many thanks! :)

  • @moshi214 Thank you. The main thing we do is I try to ALWAYS speak to Nina in English while her mother (and everyone else around her) speaks to her in Japanese. We also show her some English DVDs and I read a picture book to her in English every night. That's about it. Her English is not perfect, of course, but at least she can communicate. I think the important thing is that she gets to hear me speak English at least a little bit every day.

  • @geofg That sounds like EXACTLY what we do with Hanano but in reverse of course. Hope you and the family are ok, I don't know what area you are in.

We are supposed to be flying out to Tokyo on Friday.

  • @Asuplex We are in Nagoya, so we weren't too affected by the earthquake etc. Tokyo is closer to the nuclear power plant in Fukushima than we are. I think they are getting that situation under control, though, so you guys should be fine there.

  • @geofg I hope so. We still plan to head out on Friday for now (against UK FOC recommendations) but we decide on Thursday. We have some family in Miyagi so it has been quite scary (they are ok now). Most of my friends and family are in Tokyo and so ok.

It would be a shame to miss the trip and Hanano is fairly desperate to see the family. Just need to make sure I am 100% happy that it is safe. it is Tokyo though so maybe 98% and a back up plan will do.

  • @Asuplex I think even if there were an increase in radiation due to another explosion or something, the levels in Tokyo would still be so low that you'd have to be there a long time to get much negative effect. I can understand your trepidation, though, especially for Hanano's sake. Still, there are millions of kids in Tokyo now, so I don't think most people are too worried about it.

  • @geofg Yes I think so, it's just tough with kids though. Tonight / Tomorrow we decide.

  • @moshi214 Oh, and congratulations on your pregnancy!

  • oww..her drawing skill is good..when i was at her age i even cant draw like that..i just draw a weirld line all over the drawing book..LOL

  • Nina is helping me learn Japanese! Arigato Nina chan!

  • @ladyodessasilvererg She helps me, too!

  • Dear Nina and her father Mr.Geofg,

I just got the news from your country that you had terrible earthquakes an Tsunami. I really feel sorry for all the people living in Japan. I hope you and your family are OK.

Indonesia also suffered from Tsunami in 2004 and it was very devastating moment for us. Japan is a very strong and powerful country, we sure that you guys can overcome this tragedy as soon as possible.

Big love goes out to Nina and her family and also for people who suffered today.

    ^^

  • wow!!! i was SOOO amazed how NINA told a story in Japanese and translated it. It is easy to tell stories in Eng and Jp, but not translation for kids- they norally dont have the translating system but she was so wonderful at it!!!!! She translated each word, then scrambled the word back to the right order!!! thats is so amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Her writing is so cute and i love it when little kids write katakana words in hiragana. its so cute! like あいすくりいむ!

  • @steivewonderful2007 ha ha Thanks. She's just starting to learn katakana now, so she won't be writing アイスクリイム in hiragana much longer, I suppose. I'll miss that, too. Then, once she starts elementary school, she'll start learning kanji and before you know it, I'll be depending on her to help me read things. *sigh*

  • she is so creative to be making up stories and drawing pictures along with them. such a talented little girl! adorable and amazing! <3

  • When I was four, I got the chance to visit my cousins in Australia (I'm from Malaysia and my family used the Hokkien dialect primarily at home since I was born). For someone who could barely string a proper sentence in English together, I came back speaking like a native Australian (complete with the accent) 6 weeks later! It would be great if Nina could spend time with English-speaking kids her age to really boost her learning. Btw, why did cute Nina roll her eyes at "Let's Begin"? lol.

  • @dowachalike Australian accent in six weeks?! Wow. We will take Nina to the U.S. in the summer for a month, if possible, so it will be interesting to see if that has an affect on her accent.

She rolled her eyes when she said, "Let's begin" because she wasn't sure if it was the correct English translation for the Japanese she wrote, but was just giving it a try.

  • @dowachalike haha yeah she did! LOL I just noticed,

  • These vlogs are great. They're such well-made documentations that you're making of her growing up instead of writing diaries or taking pictures.

  • @yuichituba Do they bring back any memories for you from your own childhood?

  • @geofg Ya, actually. Really cool thing that my dad did was he video taped us as well. He was pretty good at tech stuff back then too. He converted all that beta tape clips of us to mpeg. I must say, it is really cool to see myself when I was young and how I reacted to things and such. I'm sure Nina will feel the same when she gets to my age :)

  • @yuichituba That's cool your dad had the technical knowledge to do that. I haven't seen a beta tape in years. ha ha I wish I had video of myself, and more importantly, my parents from my childhood days. It would be cool to see what they were like back then.

  • her english has significantly improved! she's getting a hold of all the tenses and stuff at a very young age :) I'm delighted! great job, papa! :D

  • im back in europe and im finally being able to comment on youtube videos (dont understand why i couldnt do it in korea).nina has grown up so much.i always wanted to learn japanese but gave up and stuck to korean because they only have on writing system and i thought that it would be easier, well i was wrong.

my mom and i can enoy nina's videos together again.

  • @maria7sda Thanks for commenting! How long were you in Korea? Did you go there to study? I have no idea how difficult Korean is compared to Japanese, but I know learning Japanese has taken A LOT longer than I thought it would.

  • @geofg hi.i spent 10 months in korea as an exchange student at seoul national university.my major is Korean studies, but learning asian languages is difficult but with hard work anything can be achieved.

  • @geofg The Korean alphabet is really easy to learn. Only 24 characters in total (less than the English alphabet). As for the language... hm, I'm not sure how hard it is to learn since I'm Korean myself, but I know that there are similarities between it and Japanese. So if you wanted to learn it now, you definitely could and you would probably find it easy to learn actually! I know Korean people have said that learning Japanese is easy. So I'm sure this works both ways.

  • I hope you save the booklet she made. I have this early childhood memory, of making a story book like this. It's a weird dual memory, in which I recall my mental idea of what I'd drawn, these kind of rich beach scenes...and at the same time, I remember objectively what I'd put on the page, which were pencil drawings, and not as good as these that Nina has done.

  • @SelfPort Interesting. I've noticed that Nina seems to knock out her drawings pretty quickly, and without too much concern for symmetry or accuracy. Perhaps she also has a rich scene in her head which she is merely representing with her simple lined drawings. We have quite a collection of Nina's drawings, love letters, books etc. by now. Hard to know how much of it to keep, but so far we've kept most of it.

  • where's popo chan? nina chan what's your favorite toy?

  • @icecreampillowify I'm afraid Popo-chan doesn't get much love these days. Mostly, she just sits in the corner of Nina's room. Nina sleeps with Duffy every night, so I guess that is her favorite now.

  • she is soooo intelligent. SHE IS ACTUALLY translating now.!!!!!!!!!!

  • ニーナちゃん可愛い~:Dいつも二ーナ先生から英語を学ばせてもらってます:D

  • She is so cute!!!

  • what happen to pooh-san? ^^ haha

  • @nursyazaG Pooh-san is in the bottom of Nina's toy box, I'm afraid.

  • I learned Hiragana by myself, but I think for me it's hard to learn how to write something together with Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji

  • @qendu Indeed, it is a long, arduous process, especially for an adult.

  • From the picture it looks like Nina is sure a happy sleeper--Niko Niko Nina. It's interesting that she miswrote "kaetta" (go home) as "kaitta." That seems like a mistake an English speaker would make because we have "ai" but no "ae" sound (except altered in "alumnae," etc.), but a native Japanese speaker wouldn't. But she pronounced it right. It's also interesting that because she's used to writing her name with the proper katakana "ni," she miswrote the hiragana-using word "ni" with katakana.

  • @languageandhumor Nina also makes mistakes when speaking English that seem more like those a native English speaking child would make. I personally can't really hear the difference between かえった and かいった when embedded in the middle of a quickly pronounced sentence, but Nina obviously should be able to. With her name, she first learned to write it in hiragana as にいな but she also saw us write it in katakana as ニーナ so when she tried to write it in katakana it came out as に-ナ.

  • Nina speaks english VERY well-Geof is doing a great job teaching her! She's very bright, and will only get better and more fluent as she gets older. :)

  • Woow! ^ ^ she is amazing! How old is she now?

  • @moonhae Thanks! She is five.

  • Great daughter you have, geofg!

  • watashi wa Nina-chan ga daisuki!! (^___^) she is sooo ADORABLE. **chuu~

  • I love Nina! She is so gorgeous and intelligent for her age! The video where she says sorry makes me cry because I'm always so touched at her maturity but my favourite's gotta be the Morning Nina! Too adorable! Are you planning on giving Nina any siblings? I'm sure she would be a great older sister!

  • @dbskxD No, we're done as parents, but we do make sure that Nina has lots of time to spend with her friends.

  • You should work on making her more english like to speak it fluently so that when shes older she'll be fluent in both languages :3

  • @BOTDFobbsessed I try to. I speak to her in English every day and read a book to her in English every night. Unfortunately, I am the only person in her life who speaks English, so it is a big challenge. Hopefully, as Nina gets older, we can visit the U.S. more so her speaking can become more fluid.

  • I'm excited for her birthday. I just love watching little Nina grow up.

  • What a wonderful recount of a lovely trip! Think there's some real writing talent here! Keep it up Nina xxx

  • its sad how her hand writing is better than mine XDXD she is so smart! my 2 year old nephew doesnt even know how to talk yet LOL. only small words. my favorite one is how he says Elephant - Aka. XDXD i love little kids lol

  • Nina is absolutely adorable. Seeing her videos brightens up my day. ^_^

  • Here comes my favorite part of getting online,

    seeing Nina's developmental progress.

    Intelligent, perceptive and expressive...

    not mentioing cute, adorable

(as if I am convincing anyone for some position ^__^)

    seeing Nina makes my day.

Thank you geofg (and her mom) for allowing us to enjoy your darling daughter.

  • @thewoodie2011 Thanks!

  • Nina is much smarter than me. She already knows her hiragana

  • @usaverageguy ha ha She's working on her katakana now, though she still can't read the kanji for "sake". I learned that one my third day in Japan.

  • @usaverageguy

But she'll spend half her life learning all of it

  • Nina's smiling even while sleeping :D

  • @Archronos1 ha ha And, she actually really does smile when she sleeps sometimes.

  • Nina is so young and she already has so many fans and im one of theeeem <3 :D

  • :D I LOVE the relaxing picture mister geofg, and i can definitely say that i know much more japanese now! thanks to nina, kisses!!

  • Nice! Thanks for the Nihongo lesson, Nina.

  • I love youuuuuuu NINA!!!!

  • nina so cute :D i think she should study at international school to improve her english accent. but it just my opinion :p

  • @d4v3d4sh Whether to put Nina in an international school or not is something we will consider from junior high school on. There are definitely benefits and drawbacks to both. A lot of kids I've talked to who went to international schools enjoyed feeling different, and having a unique community, but never really feel quite a part of Japanese society the way kids who go to Japanese schools do. Another option would be to send her to a school in the U.S. for a year to improve her fluency.

  • i love the way you correcting her words when they went wrong :)

  • OK>>>WHOOO DISLIKE THIS VIDEO????

  • Is it me, or is her hiragana reading left to right, I thought it was right to left? Or is it because she's doing english at the same time?

  • @JJNeepinFilms I believe they only write right to left if they're writing vertically. If they're writing horizontally, then it's the same as us.

  • @FaithfulSpot oh i see. ty

  • @JJNeepinFilms Yeah, FaithfulSpot is right. These days, many kids books are written from left to right, just like in Western books, though some still use the vertical writing style. In very old Japanese books, you can find right to left, horizontal text.

  • ニーナちゃん

    u mAKe me smile nina,i luv u!!!!!!

  • nina's videos r work as a stress buster!!!!!

    m ur fan nina :)

  • Awesome! She is so good at English as her 2nd language!!

  • Thanks again for sharing Nina with us. You & your wife should be proud to have raised such a lovely girl :)

  • Recently a number of Japanese students from a school in Japan came to my school in Malaysia, for a cultural exchange program. Most of them, could hardly speak in English, and it was also difficult for them to even understand what we tried to say, most of the time we had to use body language to communicate. We had fun, though. But it's really intriguing to see that Nina is learning from a very early age like this. She's a prodigy. and is blessed to have devoted and loving parents like you.

  • @ahmadluqman Thanks! Of course, Nina has an advantage over other Japanese people who try to learn English because she has a native speaker (me) to listen to every day. I teach English to Japaense junior and senior high school students, so I know how tough it is for them when they don't have that daily exposure to the language. I'm glad you still had fun with them, though.

  • awwwwwwww! So cute!!!!!! gotta sub to this channel!

  • nice nails nina ;)

  • Im in loveeeeee with Nina.

  • someone has to have accidentally clicked on the dislike button. there's no way any sane person would dislike any of your videos particularly with Nina in it.

  • :D awww <3

  • sooo cute :D i liked the hugging part of the story, really adorable :D

  • wow what a smart girl. Its amazing how she translates it so clearly for her age

  • i love her cheeks. she's like a bunny.

  • *squeals for eternity* She's so adorable! Her handwriting is even cuter! Do you ever feel like crying tears of joy when she gives you hand-made things (cards, drawing, etc)? I do that when my niece or nephew would do that. xDD It's so heart-touching.

  • @Merichuu Yes, Nina is in a "writing love letters" stage now. She writes them to me, and to Mama, and to her daycare teacher, and to her friends... ha ha

  • ニナの日本語は元上手ですね~

Is it wrong that I'm jealous she know more Japanese than me?

  • @TokyoNerd Well, it is her first language. Her Japanese ability surpassed my own when she was three!

  • @geofg

lol. Hopefully someday we'll all be as good as she is.

  • so so cute, shes awesome.

  • Nina, how sweet to speak in Japaness & English Miss you dear:))

  • Duffy... as in that bear from Disney?? :^D I saw it like 1 billion times at disney~

Aww Nina, cute as always <33

  • @pokemongurl93 Yes, Duffy the Disney bear. She sleeps with Duffy every night.

  • @geofg That's so cute! Say Hi to Duffy, and Nina for me :^D

  • how can she already speak and write 2 languages? thats great

  • @Platinumpitviper Some children grow up bilingual :^D

  • @pokemongurl93 i know but its still amazing i couldnt learn a new one if i tried

  • @Platinumpitviper don't say that! it's not as hard as it seems. I grew up bilingual and I'm studying Japanese also :3

  • @Platinumpitviper She was born into it. It's not hard for kids her age to learn multiple languages.

  • Nina totally so adorable.... luv nina so much ^_^

  • I randomly found her videos in my college days and thought: so adorable! I forgot about this channel until around last month.. and somehow randomly found my way back and I was so surprised on how much she has grown! What didn't surprise me is how smart she is becoming, she has always been very bright~ I enjoy watching her English improve as well ^^ I love languages, so I hope I may have the same patience as you do, on my own child one day to teach them my parents languages + English. ♥Go Ni~na♥

  • @chibikonkon Thank you! When I look back at some of Nina's older videos, I'm also amazed by how much she has grown and changed. It all happens so quickly with children!

  • nina can teach us now~! ^^

  • awww! so cute :)

  • YAY! New Nina video :) She makes me so happy<3 My little sister is named Nina too :/ but shes not that cute anymore, lol!!
