Funny, the original phaedra from 1973 came along Pink floyd's On the run, same electronic feelings like a kind of chase in time, an analog loop turn around, our future sounds? this sounds are so much more clean and controlled here, than with they old analog gear.
I can't even believe how ahead of it's time this song actually was. If you threw electronica and classical music into a mixing bowl, this would be the tasty treat that would come out.
This is nothing like the original vinyl version I've got. Why do they have to muck about with things. This is rubbish, with those electronic drum sounds. Crap. Listen to the original if you can get it.
I prefer the original, but this isn't bad. desweef, since you know about this remixed version, maybe you can help me out. Someone posted a remixed version of Exit on here, and I'm curious as to where it came from. Do you know which album the remixed version of the song Exit came out on?
I don't know. It's probably on one of their new albums and I don't listen to the new Tangerine Dream anymore ! They are running out of idea's. This remix I like but most of their remixes are terrible. You'll here the original track and they play along with it with some modern (soft)synths and they call that a remix. It's just a bad version of the original track. They really should retire.
Haha! I agree that the remixes can be bad. I was curious as to which release the remixed version of Exit was on so I could avoid buying it. I just ordered a remastered version of the Exit album, and I'm hoping it doesn't come with the remixed version. I mainly purchase TD's older albums, though, because I feel those are probably going to be the best of all their material. Thanks for the tip. I'll be sure not to buy any remixed albums.
Look out for the "remastered" albums. I have listen to the remastered album Phaedra and there they add some new sounds and that was'nt an improvement !!
Hmm. I hope the Exit album I get is the original. TD is going to start re-releasing albums under the label "Document Classics," and the albums have "original recordings" on the front. Maybe these will be the actual, true originals? If so, I started buying my albums too early. I should have waited for these new releases. I just found out about them, though, so it is too late.
I still hadn't heard any of the "new" Phaedra till I found this tonight and I have to say I prefer the original. This version sounds too thin to me. it seems to lack the depth of the original. If there's one album I doubt I'll ever stop listening to it's Phaedra. For me, it's such a mood fixer for any occasion. I often just play it over and over again.
Absolutely. In fact, I don't have any of their albums more recent than the '80s. I've got the usual Phaedra, Rubycon, Stratosfear, and more (including Encore), but I don't have Zeit. One of my favorite albums is Underwater Sunlight. It's such a good album. So is Green Desert. I'm looking at getting Optical Race and Mars Polaris (if I can find them). Mars Polaris is from 1999, but it sounds phenomenal from what I've heard. You should check out the song Outland from Mars Polaris here on YouTube.
Buy Zeit !! You won't regret it. Especially the first track is brilliant. It starts with a few cello's playing hypnotizing chords I have never heard before
I bought Zeit when it was first released on vinyl, boy was i dissapointed, it was imo the most boring thing TD ever did, but Desweef find out for yourself man.
My collection has some gaps but the most recent I have is 'The Seven Letters From Tibet' and I like it. Some of the ones I have from before that, like 'Rockoon', I'm less keen on. Judging from what you say you like I'd recommend 'Zeit' to you for sure, it's a trip.
Yes, Seven Letters From Tibet is another one I am considering. I like the idea that Zeit is a double album. For some reason, I'm a fan of double albums. I'll check it out for sure. The interesting thing about Zeit is that it seems to split the TD fans right down the middle. Some really like Zeit, and some really dislike Zeit. I wonder which category I would fall under. I guess the only way to find out is to buy it and listen. I'll try and find some previews of it on the internet first. :-)
Hey, desweef, I finally got my remastered version of Exit. As it turns out, it's the SBM (Super Bit Map) remastered version of Exit. All of the songs are unmodified as far as I can tell, but the remastering quality is supposed to be the best according to what I've read. There are printing errors on the CD and CD sleeve, though. For instance, Remote Viewing is listed as simply "Remote." That's really no big deal to me. :-)
I remember buying album when it was first released .Did they do soundtrack to 'The Keep'?

It is different from the original, but I like it too! It comes from Antique Dreams(2000) and is called "Phaedra Of Nottingham"!

this isn't the original Phaeadra... that is much tripier and last over 15 minutes. still it's nice to hear. thanks for the clip.
I am an OLD fan of T Dream. I think that Phaerda/Rubycon are their top. i love Zeit but not their recent stuff... ah well, to each their own.

I would say Rubycon. It's like Phaedra but with a lot more sequencers.

I guess I'm biased but I reckon they never topped Phaedra. I also liked Ricochet. I know it's a bit same old same old but it just gets me.

In my opinion Phaedra is the best sound of tangerine dream.
But the Tangram album is my favourite.
Invasco 2 years ago
In my humble opinion the trippiest is Hyperborea, and give the re-release a chance too.
I wish Stratosfear was the same way it was in the beginning the enitre song, then it would definitely be the trippiest TD song ever.

A lot of Tangerine Dream's albums can be played on a loop and never get boring. That's one of the many reasons I love their music.
jcdenton7 2 years ago 2
I agree but especially the earlier stuff like Zeit. And Encore, I can listen to that for ever.
