Hey, does anyone know the full name of the composer who wrote this, and the history behind the song? I'm interested in learning this piece.

@MrWhopper10 I'm not quite sure about the composer, but this song, Sunflowers, was written to praise Mao Ze Dong, who was the dictator back then. Basically, the sunflowers were the people, and Mao Ze Dong was the sun, and the people followed Mao Ze Dong wherever he went. I hope this helps. :)

I personally never play with sheet music when I've learnt a piece. The only downfall is if you lose your place it is hard to come back (unless you know it really well)

me too! i cant start in the middle of my pieces and when i think about my piece too much i mess up because im thinking about what note i should play next...so when i do play a song my hand automatically goes to the key. thats why when its harder to play a slow song for me because i have to think about it, if its a song with lots of notes and a pattern my hand instinctively goes there. :)

its actually easy, you just play a piece many times and you can (almost) play it back effortlessly. Your muscles do all of the memorizing so really no 'thinking' besides dynamics is necessary while performing a piece like this

sure there are different techinques to learn a piece to the fullest..

Usually you kind a cut the piece in to many smalle pieces that you play as he said many times.

In classical it is likely to start and learn the keys, and then learn the bass and put them together, but begin with only like 2 lines or what ever you feel comfortable about.

I can maybe give you a tip!!

When you play/perform a piece let the music itself kind of become your thoughts and emotions. You don't think with your head anymore, but you think with your fingers and the keys and the sound. If I use that feeling when I play, I play much better! :P (and I have a much more special experience!) Sounds somehow so sad not being able to focus on the music you want to play =(

I think the simplest explanation is that Yundi is simply a better pianist than the others that have performed Sunflowers. Lang Lang apparently plays it too, but I suspect he knows playing it publicly will only invite comparison to Li, and and that LL won't measure it.

Yundi Li is absolutely amazing! There are lots of videos of other people playing Sunflowers by Wang on piano, but none of them are anywhere near as good. When Yundi Li plays it, it sounds so effortless, and it has so much emotion. He plays the fast parts faster than anyone else, and the slow parts slower than anyone else, and with so much dynamic control. I could listen to this all day.
