  • It's quite a difficult piece to play

  • Best like to best song

  • Nice man

  • Hey, does anyone know the full name of the composer who wrote this, and the history behind the song? I'm interested in learning this piece.

  • @MrWhopper10 I'm not quite sure about the composer, but this song, Sunflowers, was written to praise Mao Ze Dong, who was the dictator back then. Basically, the sunflowers were the people, and Mao Ze Dong was the sun, and the people followed Mao Ze Dong wherever he went. I hope this helps. :)

  • @Exaspera8888 Thanks for the info! At least I know the historic meaning of the song now, if not the composer. Oh, well. Anyway, I really appreciate it! :))

  • @MrWhopper10 You're welcome! :)

  • I was dreaming about Celts last night & one hair like a sunflower and he invited us to dance. There are sunflowers in the garden here in Riyadh, maybe they come alive at night? The opening bars have a Celtic lilt to them.. and the dream directed me to this music. I just typed sunflowers into You Tube.. I miss my culture, miss culture, dancing & music.

It polish language, and it means that it is beutiful and that he loves music :)

  • @CleverDjembe This is polish language (Poland) and he says: "Very very beautiful I love music very much".

-- I'm Czech, so the slavonic neighbor. Yundi Li really plays with fine feeling.

  • @CleverDjembe

It's Polish, and it means " Bravo! I love the music sooooooooooooo much ! "

  • when i played the sheet music, it doesnt sound at all like yundi li plays it...? maybe your sheets are a different version of the song?

  • @raycdaddy

Maybe. I don't know who made the sheets. No further sheet inquiries, please. I don't have them, sorry.

  • @raycdaddy you're playing it wrong if it doesn't sound like this... the sheets that were posted are spot on.

  • @raycdaddy practice more...

  • @raycdaddy

haha, or maybe you're not playing it as well as Li Yundi can, so it sounds different. :)

  • 23 Ppl who dislike it? No no no no. 23 idiots who don't understand music or art or appreciation of anything. Fcking retards.

  • @JamminJamacan probably justin beiber's fans

  • What was the next piece he played for the encore? I'd like to listen to it.

  • very cool piece of music!

  • ich finde das Stück drückt pure Lebensfreude aus;

Man steht auf, reisst sein Fenster auf, die Sonne scheint, das Leben fängt langsam an zu toben und man weiss, dass wird DEIN Tag !

Echt ein wunderschönes Stück, wobei auch echt gut gespielt !!!

  • @CelestineAsban haha, nice description :)

  • WOW thank you so much for the sheet music!!!

I saw Yundi playing this yesterday and so much fell in love with it!!

  • i think he always the best on every piece

chopin liszt and of course this chinese music

  • That was lovely. Cute guy too.

  • One of my favorite pianists!

  • Pięknie Bardzo Ładnie 6******Bardzo Kocham Muzykę

  • Bright and beautiful piece of music :]

  • nice & fun piece

    and yundi play it good

  • I can understand why this piece is entitled Sunflowers. It's beautiful. It makes you want to smile, just like a sunflower.

  • Not a single accidental in the entire piece! Such charming simplicity!

  • @wogandmush actually there is a cople of accidentals if u listen carefully you can hear a lot of b flats

  • Well it's in Bb so I'd imagine there'd be a few of them alright!

By accidentals I meant chromatic notes!

  • its based on b flat lol.

  • the clapping lasted 1min 30 sec...he plays great! i bet everyones' hands hurt alot.....

  • Maybe they took clapping shifts :D

    but this realy is amazing.

  • This performance is a bit different with the performance at 2002 Japan Live show, but great too!!

  • "u should cut out the clapping." The Clapping is to Show Respect even through Youtube

  • It's almost like a competition to see who claps longer. Nonetheless Mr. Li plays brilliantly as always and very much deserves an encore like what he received.

  • he plays beautifully

  • the clapping made me laugh lol

  • i laughed too at the clapping.

  • Very beautiful.

  • think they're go for another encore

  • I would have clapped even longer.

  • he has the classic chinese accent

  • Well, he is Chinese lol.

  • Thanks for the video and sheet music!

  • that is great

  • wonderfull song!!

  • anyone know the approximate grade of this piece?

  • level 8-9 if that's what u mean...

  • if you're going by RCM then this definitely an ARCT piece

  • by RCM I say lvl 9-10. But then I'm not very experienced so...

  • IT'S NOT AVAILABLE FOR ARCT examinations!!

  • I would say about 5-7 =]

  • are u sure about 5-7??

i would like this is an ARCT piece...

  • @blarg1221 RCM grande 9

  • Well done!

  • Saw Li at the Bass Performance Hall - amazing experience! I really loved the song Rosy Clouds Chasing after the Moon by Jian-Zhong Wang.

  • OMG!!!THANK YOU FOR THE SHEETS!!!You're such a good person, thank you so much!

  • Thank you so so so much for the link for the sheet music I've been looking for this for ages!!!! Thank u :)

  • You are so welcome!

  • @finntinnlay me too=) Thnx

  • I personally never play with sheet music when I've learnt a piece. The only downfall is if you lose your place it is hard to come back (unless you know it really well)

  • me too! i cant start in the middle of my pieces and when i think about my piece too much i mess up because im thinking about what note i should play next...so when i do play a song my hand automatically goes to the key. thats why when its harder to play a slow song for me because i have to think about it, if its a song with lots of notes and a pattern my hand instinctively goes there. :)

  • I totally agreed with you, watch my page to see so :P

  • that's the EXACT thing that happens to me

    K.I.T.

    (keep in touch)

  • Pięknie bardzo ładnie grasz na fortepianie kocham bardzo muzykę CONGRATULATIONS.

  • oh i luv this piece!! it sounds so lovely for me :)

  • my school got a perfect piano playER!

  • Fantastic. Not only excellent playing but how do they remember all those thousands of notes?

  • its actually easy, you just play a piece many times and you can (almost) play it back effortlessly. Your muscles do all of the memorizing so really no 'thinking' besides dynamics is necessary while performing a piece like this

  • What he said :)

  • really? I haven't play piano for a while... and it's hard to remember.. I am now 35, taught myself when I was 25, but don't play everyday. but recently got back to it for the last two years. Is there a trick to remember? Maybe I am too old?

  • sure there are different techinques to learn a piece to the fullest..

Usually you kind a cut the piece in to many smalle pieces that you play as he said many times.

In classical it is likely to start and learn the keys, and then learn the bass and put them together, but begin with only like 2 lines or what ever you feel comfortable about.

Anyway I almost think yundi could play thi piece Prima Vista

  • No hope for me then as I'm 50. LOL

  • Some people find it really easy to remember pieces, like me, but my piano teacher can't play without sheet music at all and never has been able to... He's 60 odd and has been playing for 50 years...

  • I actually find that after memorizing a piece, I can't play it if I think too much. Therefore I have to keep myself distracted by thinking about other things or else I mess up. It's sort of an interesting paradox.

  • lol it happened to me also

  • hence when you perform you would be distracted by the pressure of the presence of the audience and you will play well :)

  • I can maybe give you a tip!!

When you play/perform a piece let the music itself kind of become your thoughts and emotions. You don't think with your head anymore, but you think with your fingers and the keys and the sound. If I use that feeling when I play, I play much better! :P (and I have a much more special experience!) Sounds somehow so sad not being able to focus on the music you want to play =(

  • I think the simplest explanation is that Yundi is simply a better pianist than the others that have performed Sunflowers. Lang Lang apparently plays it too, but I suspect he knows playing it publicly will only invite comparison to Li, and and that LL won't measure it.

  • haha, very good explanation. lang lang can't be compared to Yundi Li the great

  • @deerodchan he really can

  • *up

    excuse me :s

  • It's actually (for me) mostly muscle memory. Also, this piece has many repeated parts. So after you play it for a while, it just...flows when you try to memorize it? hehe (:

  • haha i once memorized a piece (unknowingly by muscle memory). my teacher told me to start in the middle and i forgot how to play

  • Perfect as usual!

  • esssa musica é mto legal e bunita eu realmente adoro

  • Can anyone write the midi file for this piece?!

  • lol yea i like the song =D

i think the applause was a little long XD

  • I think the applause was to mark a long series of performances...this piece having been the last.

  • I'd have to agree, although i really enjoyed this song. the emotions are so clear.

  • aaahhh thanks sooo much for teh sheet music i been looking for it! :)!

    yundi li.. so amazing D:

  • kewllllll!! :D

  • Yundi Li is absolutely amazing! There are lots of videos of other people playing Sunflowers by Wang on piano, but none of them are anywhere near as good. When Yundi Li plays it, it sounds so effortless, and it has so much emotion. He plays the fast parts faster than anyone else, and the slow parts slower than anyone else, and with so much dynamic control. I could listen to this all day.

  • I like this piece of music!

  • I love this piece :) One of my goals in the future :) 5stars for sure :)

    Thomas

  • Thanks for sharing this, I love classical piano pieces (Chopin among my favorites), and this was exquisite!

    Tom

  • damn i really love yundi li, i mean just take a look at his dynamics, techniques, and how he feels! hey nice job bro!!!!!!!!!

  • fast

  • feels great every time i listen to this~! Yundi Li plays this beautiful transcription of the Chinese Melody wonderfully! It's the best rendition of this piece i am sure.

  • yay! thanks for the sheet music link! :)

hes so much better live! everyone should go see a live concert of his! its absolutely worth the money! his music is so pure and beautiful. seamless yet articulate. nothing short of spectacular!

  • wow you are so lucky! i would see him in a second if i got the chance, to me, it would be like going to the Super Bowl lol!

  • light hearted and inspiring. Reminds me of spring and life.

  • haha yeah tha'ts a good thing considering it's a song about sun flowers

  • beautiful! noticed quite a few people had the same problem as I (not getting how to download the sheet music): type in the code next to the download button, then wait 45 seconds and click the free download option. I know, I'm slow...
