  • This is why war is horrible, in the end both sides lose.

  • MajorThunder - you cannot comment on logic, it is a concept that is beyond your grasp.

  • Whenever i watch this movie, i can't watch this scene. This scene.. So sad. These kinds of situations really fighting for your life, afwul.

  • This scene will always have a huge affect on me. It makes me feel humble for never having gone through such a trial, and grateful to every single person who ever served in any of the armed forces. And especially those who went through this kind of hell for our freedom.

  • one of the most fucked up scenes ever I saw, poor man. Fucking war...

  • If I won the knife fight and saw my friend sitting on the stair case crying I'd kick the shit out of him

  • liss up liss up listen to me listen to me stop stop no no dont daddadadadadada cla cla ah aw aw cla

  • that fucking bitch! they should have killed that pussy when they have the chance.

  • Rofl.. The Helemt scene adds a lot of needed humor after that knife scene xD

  • Steamboat Willie was Wehrmacht and played by actor Joerg Stadler, while this Waffen SS soldier was played by German stuntman Mac Steinmeier. At the end of the movie, you see that right after the fight, Steamboat Willie is wearing a Wehrmacht tent section, while the SS soldier was wearing an SS smock.

  • The fight scene where the German soldier whispers "Shhhh" as he slowly pushes the knife into the American's chest, reminds me of a scene from a war movie I watched as a kid, in the late 70's or early 80's. I've been searching and searching but I can't find any reference to a similar scene in another movie. It was like deja vu when I first saw this scene and it's been driving me nuts. Does anybody know the older movie that I'm referring to?

  • .. Great acting. One thing is seeing this as viewer, but the way they're fighting and "faking" the emotions like they're about to get killed is amazing work. Awesome movie.

  • @CiPHeR890 Funny haha your a pice of shit. Got what was coming to him you act like your so much supirour and would have done better

  • sorry i never saw this movie (but i still want to). my friend told me a bout this knife fight scene and i just wanted to look it up. but can someone just tell me what happened? who was the good guy bad guy?

  • LOL the disgusting kike got what he had coming to him. Look at him even trying to bargain his way out of it! lmao

  • It's stupid how everyone flames Upham, like he should have just ran in and shot the SS man. He had no idea what was going on in the room, for all he knew, there could have been 5 Germans in there.

  • I hate this scene. It's great, but I hate it.

  • This scene angers me. slowly patronises him as the blade goes deeper and deeper into his stomach. Disturbing.

  • @jaykmvang

    please stop going online

  • 3:27 helmet fight

  • on the film after he stabbes him he just walks past the other american

  • Every time I watch this I notice 15 minutes later that am still tense.

  • This scene is more awesome with snowflakes.

  • Ugh, for the upmillionth time, this is NOT Steamboat Willie.

Willie is Wehrmacht, has an almost bald haircut and is played by Joerg Stadler

The guy killing Mellish is Waffen SS, has a thicker buzz cut and is played by Mac Steinmeier

Thumbs up so people can finally stop confusing them.

  • @WolfhoundMercenary ok, so who kills Capt.Miller? Steamboat Willie, or The "thicker buzz cut" ?

  • @elgrancomunicador Willie. You can see how he seems to be the only Wehrmacht grunt amongs them during the bridge assault.

  • @elgrancomunicador Steamboat Willie kills Miller

  • @WolfhoundMercenary btw, what can you say about the "thicker buzz cut" saying "upham" before he gets shot by him, and if it was not him, why would that kill be so personal? it has to be, IMDB could be wrong, wich are your references? it wouldn´t make any sense to get another actor that looks alike Steamboat Willie?!?!?! it makes NO SENSE AT ALL

  • i used to be an american soldier...but then i took a knife to the chest.

  • @TheChicano77 Not funny

  • I LOVE HIMMMMM

  • @YoungBrave2006 fuck u Upham is my favorite character asshole!

  • This is one of my most hated scenes out of the movie. This part SUCKED!

  • It is the same guy they let go bc the guy says Upum's name bf he get's shot

  • @mel100100 YES!!!

  • That ss soldier would have one 10/10 times. He's was fighting in russia probably before being sent west.

  • @sultanpuppy26 That's why he struggled very hard to win this fight

  • @mrksalani its a movie man ,their not gonna let him win in 5 seconds.

  • @sultanpuppy26 What you don't seem to understand is that Mellish was a battle hardened Army Ranger, it was not going to be easy for anyone. People seem to wank Nazi Germany and the SS in particular to the moon.

  • @sultanpuppy26 nope, he would have probably been wermacht. Anyways, I ask you, who would have won the war, reallly? Nobody I know, event the white people would have stood for that shit. Even in Germany Nazism is currently prohibited. Ask yourself why? Because there were 15 year old girls back there asking americans for a piece of sausage in exchange for their virginity in exchange for their lives. The russians would just rape them and kill them. Learn a bit of history.

  • @YoungBrave2006 anyways, let' talk about who actually won the war, or rather, who lost it. Hitler is dead, and the nazis are pieces of shit I don't ever dwell on.

  • @YoungBrave2006 I'm not a jew; but I will rather join their cause than Eugenics, because fuck white people, and jews are very good at shooting shit.

  • @YoungBrave2006 ur sayin he's a wermacht...... yeah look at SS insignia on his collar, learn some history bro.

  • What he should have done, if he was subjected to the top mount, was bring both his feet in close to his own butt and then viciously buck to his own right. Not left since his left hand was pinned with the german using that as his own base from which to use all his body weight to bring his blade down. This would have perhaps bought Willie enough time save himself against the stronger german. This kinda still makes you wanna go to the gym and work on your bench press though, huh?

  • @pam2858 Nope, he used have used the butt of his gun as a club, instead of relying on someone else. He might have lived then. Also, I fucking hate Upham for being a pussy for that.

  • @YoungBrave2006 Day late and a buck short. Fuck Upham.

  • i've only watched this scene once, love this movie tho,one of the best...... it's just too disturbing for me lol

  • MELLISH..........DIDNT THINK RIGHT,HE COULD HAVE PICKED UP THE THOMPSON.ONLY LIKE 10-14 SHOTS WERE FIRED IF YOU LOOKED AT THE WALL.

  • THAT GUY ON THE STAIRS ALL I COULD SAY IS WHAT A PUSSY HOW THE FUCK DID HE MAKE IT THREW BOOT CAMP?

  • SON OF A BITCH ! WHEN I WATCH THIS PART, I REALLY GET ANGRY TO FUCKED GUY WHO'S WAITING.. I'M A TURKISH GUY BUT I REALLY HATE IT !

  • Fucking Upham could have saved him butt NOOOOOO he had to be a pussy

  • steamboat willie was a good soldier.

  • @nineelevenjfk1776 That was not Steamboat Willie

  • @mrksalani exactly , Thats not "Steamboat Willie" (Jörg Stadler) its Mac Steinmeier a german Stuntman from Munich,

check out his website, stuntmac . com

in the "biography" you will find a pic of this scene

  • Well, the german won. Boo hoo. Its just a movie guys, get over it.

I was surprised though. He was a lefty. The german one i mean.

  • somebody is a fucking idiot, look at the face of the german guy when he leaves the building. looks nothing like steamboat willie. and if he was why did he act surprised to see upham again after he shot cpt. miller? p.s. I would like to stab the guy who played upham just because I will always remember him like this

  • Dont lie....if it was a German soldier getting killed youd all be happy.

  • Fucking pussy could have saved him.

  • @ImReniXx Not to mention that if he had saved him, the German wouldn't have gone on to shoot the Captain either. Hell, they should have just shot him when they had him captured earlier in the movie, rather than blindfold him and let him walk.

  • @ImReniXx

Easy for you to judge mate. None of us can imagine the fear he had at that moment freezing up like that.

  • @Gardash111

I know that, I would probably be scared too. To be honest though, if I could hear someone in the other room like that I would probably walk in and shoot him though, maybe not but I don't think it would take much to do that if you knew your mate was getting killed.

  • @ImReniXx

Good point there, but it's just all guessing at this point. We'd have to experience all the trauma he had before, combined with all scaring shit at this battle. All so we see this stuff on tv etc. Most WW2 guys were just farmboys given a rifle and sent off to battle lol.

  • @Gardash111 yeah, but even caparzo had a humane side and was no doubt shocked by some of it --- yet he still fought to what turned out to be the end for him.

  • this scene is censored; the original is slower and shows the knife and stomach more. i hate censored bs; this is the best death scene i ever saw; terribly awsome

  • thumbs up if no matter how many times you have watched this scene, you always hope Mellish will end victorious :(

  • *i mean or

  • when he went to take the knife why didnt he punch him in the gut of somthing?

  • 3:29 xD

  • i will never have that image out of my head

  • @hotelmario510 no your not alone

  • Very disturbing clip that it was hard to watch

  • anyone else find it interesting the the german soldier was part of the SS and he killed a jew?

  • Most disturbing scene in the whole film

  • I have this scene tabbed on safari under "comedy"

  • I thought out of all of the soldiers mellish would have survived not reiben. Reiben is a private

  • I hate this scene so much, it's the only part of the film that i can never watch :( i always have to close my eyes and cover my ears cos it's so disturbing hearing that knife slowly going in him

  • This scene may be sad, but unfourtunetly historicly correct

  • I can't be the only person here who finds this scene genuinely disturbing.

  • @hotelmario510 Yea... This is crazy. Slowly stabbing his heart...

  • Comment removed

  • @toper997 Scary shit. The guy rolling around with part of his lower jaw missing doesn't help.

  • @hotelmario510 i dont know about you but i genuinely wan't to punch upham in the face

  • @hotelmario510 One of the most disturbing moments I've seen in a film, and I've seen some pretty far-out stuff. It's the psychological horror.

  • @sec0ndevolution This is dreadful. Well-directed, but dreadful.

  • To the uploader of this video: the German in this scene who stabs Mellish is NOT Steamboat Willie. It is just some random Waffen-SS soldier. Steamboat Willie is the one who kills Miller at the end.

  • @adamzanzie hahaha wrong, this IS in fact steamboat willie, thats why he lets Upham live at the end on the scene (not showed in this clip), that and his is PHYSICALLY the same man. also, now that you mention, letting steam boat wille live was their biggest mistake, he does not only kill Mellish, and Miller (and probably Wade) but he also gets 2 others trying to run for the alamo at the end.

  • @elgrancomunicador No.

Steamboat Willie is played by the actor Jeorg Stadler. The Waffen-SS soldier (who kills Mellish) is played by the actor Mac Steinmeier.

Look them up. They are two different people.

  • @adamzanzie what?! that can´t be! then why is Upham forgiven? and also why is he the same man?!?!

  • @elgrancomunicador He isn't forgiven. The Waffen SS guy ignores him because he clearly sees he is no threat by just sitting, sobbing and crying there.

  • Mocne gówno.

  • 3:23 pointless duel!!!:D

  • atleast they let the german win for once and not the same old bullshit where the american always wins wich is complete bullshit

  • I just watched it again and I noticed that the German soldier who kills Mellish has SS tabs on his collar. The one that they let go had no such insginia and was Wermacht, that is regular German army and not SS.

  • That German kind of looks like the same guy that they let go earlier. Do you guys think it's him?

  • @superhornet69 I used to think it was too, but it isn't him

  • Good seeing this racist white man get a knife put through him. I enjoy seeing all of the white men get slaughtered in this movie. This is a very racist /sexist generation of people.

  • @stickedU You are a sick monster who is as just as racist as those you claim to hate. You are a disgusting pig. Just like your mother and her mother before her.

  • @TheMemorialStorm You are very ignorant. Current white men are not as bad as the white men from that generation. It was a sick generation and the white men from that era were devils.

  • @stickedU - white men were always "devils" to the blacks - superior people are always name-called.

  • @Force21Alpha I'm sure the Nazis used the same logic you are.

  • @stickedU You knobhead, whites were devils but if whites weren't here we'd be all be livin' in some damn huts in the middle of nowhere

  • @stickedU But this film is NOT set in this generation, is it? It's set in WWII in a totally different era!

  • lol 3:25

  • Melish - "S-s-stop, STOP! Listen to me!"

Are you fucking kidding me? Melish pulled out the bayonet and tried to do the same to the German, do you really think the German Schutze was going to stop after you tried to kill him?!

  • @RazorCell7 man, when someones about to stick a knife in your chest, tell me you're not going to say stop.

  • @swizzlesticks17 Man, when you get "someones" about to stick a knife in your chest because you JUST tried to kill him and his brothers in arms, tell me you actually dont think he is going to stop just because you said so!

  • @RazorCell7 That's not the point, when it's a life or death situation (especially if you're losing), you will most likely scream whatever comes to mind, hence, the "stop". that's what I think at least.

  • @swizzlesticks17 Good reply!

  • @RazorCell7 You'd be trying anything in that situation. You don't know until you're there.

  • @RazorCell7 no he said "what does that mean" not "listen to me"

  • @Madara2233 What are you talking about?

  • I find two girls and one cup easier to watch then this. War should be illegal.

  • Can somebody translate what the german says when he kills the private? No comprende amigos

  • @somemexican1000 He was praying

  • @somemexican1000 he said dont move lets end this you have no chance

  • man this scene i swear... just fucking horrific... and specially when he twitches as the knife goes in deeper at 3:14 OMG

  • Life is meaningless and this statement has no meaning.

  • This movie sucks

  • @avgnman72 Why you watching this video then? LOL mong

  • Next time you bitch about doing push ups, remember this, hooah?

  • @Gravity81688 hooah.

  • i like how they keep going overe the guy that was dying

  • This scene makes me want to work out...to become stronger.

  • The description is wrong.

THAT IS NO STEAMBOAT WILLIE, JUST A LOOK ALIKE

I searched it on the Saving Private Ryan Wiki

  • When I fist watched this in theaters, I had to run to the bathroom because it made me sick to the point I threw up.

  • fucking upum

  • Is that Steamboat Willie that kills him? All German people look alike to me

  • COULD SOMEONE BE SO KIND AS TO TRANSLATE WHAT THE GERMAN SAID

  • I like germans but this one was really an asshole!

  • I really hate the feeling of helplessness....I feel like I want to fucking kill everyone in the world who enjoys making others feel like that. His last emotion, fear and something else; like you could just call it quits. Make it a truce. No one has to die. It's unfair, so stop. please just let go and we don't have to die nooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

And at least a gun could be quick, but a knife slowly plunging into your heart, slipping between the ribcage in an ever slow pace that should never happen..

  • @Varencilator There are worse things in life than death. Death is the easy part. Sure, his last moments were fear, but he lived a life before this moment occured.

I'd rather die like this in a split second, than live life as a coward or in a repressed country.

  • @FaithIsAnnoyed

there is nothing worse than death. i don't know what happens after you die, but i assume that you are simply deleted forever. never feel anything anymore. never understand, never anything, ever. you ARE gone. you are stuck for eternity, alone, unfeeling, unable to do anything.

live life as a coward, or in a repressed country? u act as if its heroic to get killed by another human being. yea, soldiers fight for their country, they kill/capture until the other sides surrenders

  • @FaithIsAnnoyed

but the whole thing is meaningless. a fight betweentwo groups of humans sends millions of others to their deaths. the agenda of one person kills millions. its unreal how one man should control the lives of numerous others. what kind of freedom is that? we don't need firepower to fight wars. we need intelligence to win them. the stupidity and absurdity of another person shouldn't be allowed to cause that many deaths. humans need safety nets for that.

  • @Varencilator Hmmm.. depends where you're shot. If you're shot in the head or blown up like Jackson, yeah it'd be quick but if you're shot in the chest like Miller, Wade and Caparzo, it's gonna be slow and painful.

  • I hate that scene. It's so scary to have to stop something but just don't have enough strength. It's not even about living or dying, it's about how you just want to stop that knife from getting into you and everything isn't right. You see death coming and you have to try stopping it, but it's not enough and its not fair; you're hopeless, you plead, beg . It's just not going to stop, and the closer it gets the weaker you get. Helpless, uncaring, remorseless, no chance to give your all...suks

  • the stabbing wasn't the worst partthe worst part is when mellish is trying to push the knife away as hard as he can and the german has got that weir crazy look in his eye.

  • Its funny everyone is talking like the SS were supermen. So many ignorant about the war

  • @mrksalani i know right! in every video i watched with the SS in it people are like "ohh they were the BEST IN THE WORLD" blah blah blah but they lost? so much for that lol

  • o my poo jk sadnotjkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk,mj

  • This scene made me so angry. I was literally yelling at the TV. PVT. Stanley Mellish WAS MY FAVOURITE CHARATER in this movie and the stupid asshole (understatement) of a soldier KILLED HIM while the stupid little one just stood there and didn't do shit, when he had all the ammo!! MY GOD.

  • @MissIntriguer99 he was my favourite character too, I found him really funny throughout the whole film.

  • I love this fucking scene the duality of it the Waffen SS killing a Jewish US soldier. But You would think that the American Jew would win the fight, but Spielberg got this right for one time, The Waffen SS were some of the most fanatical warriors of world history and won many battle even though they were outnumbered 10 to 1.

  • stupid asshole with the ammo didnt do shit. fucking fag

  • One thing that I liked about this scene. More often then not, other director would have managed to find a way to have the scrawny under weight Ranger beat the much larger SS Trooper. The Moment the Bayonet is drawn, you can tell just who is going to win this fight. Kudos to Spielberg for keeping integrity in this scene

  • steam boat willie had more of a cleft chin

  • that isnt steamboat willie. Willie was in the wehrmacht the man Mellish fought was in the waffen ss

  • Its a really heavy scene due to the intimacy, but does seem tad overdramatic. Watching it at home easy to go from the context its a prolonged chaotic war. While engaged in hand 2 hand the german got to be frustrated he cannot watch his back and is losing track of the bigger battle outside. prime concern has to be kill and get out. perhaps soldiers got used to that after a few years, and its business you carry out with polite goodbyes. Anybody even been involved in anything like that ?

  • How did Mellish not shit himself at 0:37

  • Got soooooo pissed of at upham he could have saved melish the little pussy!!!

  • @TheMkBroadcast

He was having a mental breakdown... It's tough to say what you would of done in his situation, ya know?

I hear your anger about him not doing anything, but he clearly wasn't cut for war... Basically he went into the fetal position and soiled himself in fear.

  • @TheMkBroadcast does Upham die in this movie? he should for what he did

  • @TheMkBroadcast

    You're a faggot.

  • The sound the knife makes when it enter's mellish's chest is awful. My chest hurt just watching it.

  • The soviets lost 20million people.

  • man that scene with the knife pissed me off so much, idk why.

  • why didn't any of them throw a punch or something?

  • I just threw up...

  • @ThePatriotMuckraker That "jew", is an American soldier, that German, is Nazi filth.

  • @africandude1 Wrong mate, that Jew is a soldier, that German is a soldier. That Jew is a man, that German is a man.

  • @overtureorobituary Good call. But in my opinion, even back then, there was a difference between a German and a Nazi.

  • they don't show how the german took mellish's knife. he just rolls him over, then it cut's to a shot of upham on the stairs, then it cut's back to the fight with the knife now in the german's hand with the tip on mellish's chest.

    bad movie editing

  • More zio-propaganda to make the jew the poor perpetual victim, and portray the German as an animal. Nice try. I'm still waiting for spielberg to make a movie of the jew Bolsheviks and their Ukrainian genocide. I'll be waiting a long time.

  • Comment removed

  • I can't watch this, this is the worst scene ive seen in anytype of movie, it is just brutal and horrifying to me the fact of the man dieing slowly and everything, I always skipt this part, I can't even watch the scene in scareface when that guy gets killed by the chainsaw.

  • that guy that hid on the stairwell is a bitch "if you go to war hoping to live surely you will die, if you go into battle expecting to die then are you fearless" someone should have told him that

  • Comment removed

  • I'm just making an observation. Chill out. Anybody can make a fatal error in the middle of a life and death situation.

  • If they had killed the German the first time, that would have saved the lives of these two men

  • @whitetailassasin97 this isnt the same german that they let go at the radio station.
