  • yeah, your tutorials are really helpful, i'm 19 and have always wanted to get into djing so thought i'd start on the net to see if i'm up for and it watching these has only made me want to do it even more! thanks!!

  • Whats the ame of that song ?

  • I usually just count 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4 .. (in mind I count the number of bars, what I sometimes might forget..)

    @GabyTKuh132

That's called feeling for rithm, You can learn it (don't ask me how)

  • how do you know when the phrase begins/ends?

  • you just have to listen and feel when it begins ends, or count in time?

  • okay well im kinda new at writing hip hop

how do i find out how many bars to write if im not writing with a beat?

  • Мужчина кислоты видно много скушал в своё время - молодец!

  • да, oн молодец!

  • the only song i know, your method doesn't apply to is the track "infinity"...if sombody knows it...it doesn't have a 4-bar scheme but a 5-bar...

  • shut up

  • men you are a really help for youngs dj like me , thanks for the videos men keep like this

  • :-)

  • hi, rather than mixing the two tracks on "one" together.Where else can they go? Im sure there is somewhere else for a really cool sounding mix.Somewhere around the last 2 beats of the track maybe.Text reply is fine if u know wat im on about lol Anyway, enjoyed watching ur vids even tho Im an old hand.from sum1 who has NO patience to teach-

  • hi, to defjef333, you can mix a toon in anywhere , but it sounds better and is in TIME if you mix it in on the count of one, just try thanks j

  • you are absolutely right... formating your mixes on the one smoothes everything out perfectly.. when a rookie dj goes from basic mixing to master mixing you'll find its all done on the one. . . !! "SIDE NOTE".. especially when you're mixing records live that you are not familiar with or never even heard before. . . Keep it on the 1 mate!

  • yeah i think so as well. otherwise the breaks will come at totally different times and this would confuse (at least) the audience

  • what song was the fast one? the one that says "you wackass motherf*kr"? :)

  • This lesson is one of the most important. The counting scheme is great. It's easy to remember and with minimal confusion. Thanks! Also -PeteHifiger thanks for info on Phrases. = )

  • I second that!

  • i love your videos

  • good job...i really needed help to get my mixer to work again

  • 4 bars of 4? Is this what they call 4/4? You're counting to 3 in between, but it's actually a 4 count on every bar, right? Why do you go 4 bars and start over? I'm totally unfamiliar with music notation 'cept for bits and pieces, but I can count to 4. I can play these beats on drum by feel but I could not tell you if the count is 4 or 8, etc. It's a little maddening. Anybody play piano? Those cats seem to know this stuff ....

  • The way i learnt to count bars, was 1234, 2234, 3234, 4234....etc..

1123, 2123, 3123, 4123 is still four counts to the measure, just with different numbers to represent the beats. Why we count to four measures and start over, is because most music is divided into what are called phrases. Phrases are groups of four bars. 1234,2234,3234,4234-new phrase-1234,2234,3234,4234..etc..

  • to bongorilao: Look at it like this. ONE.one, two,three(1 BAR) TWO.one,two,three(1 BAR) THREE.one,two,three(1 BAR)FOUR.one,two,three(1 BAR) WHAT IS A BAR? A bar is a count of 4 beats. WHAT DID WE JUST DO? we just counted 4 bars! HUH? HOW DID WE JUST COUNT 4 BARS? For every 1-1,2,3 we have 4 numbers and we place the numbers on each beat which is what we refer to as 4 beats or A BAR! so if u think about it. 1-1,2,3 2-1,2,3 3-1,2,3 4-1,2,3. for evry 4 count you get 1 bar wich=4 bars aka 1 phrase!

  • excellent could you do more lessons with cd players?

  • will try in the nr future!

  • thankx for the tips, hey do a lesson on happy hardcore!!

  • im totally in love with ur tutorials!! im 22 years old and im hopelessly getting drawn towards the art of mixing, whereas, by profession, i am a 3d Animator! i dont even have the equipments cos i cant afford em. is it too late for me to dream about being a DJ someday? also, what equipments would u recommend for beginners and how much would it cost to buy them?

  • To be a dj! The only way you could NEVER be a dj is if you were dead!

Just because you are , say 50 , so what!, it's never too late!

  • great vid

  • another brilliant tutorial how long exactly have you been mixing for?

  • Started in about 1981

  • WATS A BREAK??

  • A break is the part of the toon where by most of the vocals, melody and bass line are taken out and you are left with only percussion.

  • thanks alot this was exactly what i was looking for!!!

  • superb lessons.

very nice way of teaching and you seem a real pleasant guy...

    keep it up!

  • I'd gladly pay for your lessons! top stuff.

  • Knowing your tracks is amazingly important. Mixing in on a perfect beat doesn't always make a good mix, getting the melodics and timing of the tracks do!

    Top Vid my man.

  • agreed

  • Again nothing short of awesome man!! i need to study my vinyls! i have yet to give your videos anything but 5 stars
