Unfortunatyely i have never seen him playing...but people this was one of the best player around...great skills...and what made him huge was his fair play...never a yellow or a red card.

Of course if my Juventus had more men like him maybe now we would still be big in Europe.

Thank you. I knew John when he set up a sports business in Rhiwbina, Cardiff, Wales just after he retired from football. He was simply to nice a man to be ruthless in business. I again met and drove John towards the end of his life on two occasions. I was nobody yet he made me feel like somebody. A real gentleman who made a great impression on me and on all who met him.

What a pity he missed the world cup 1/4 final, lost only 1-0 to a late Pelé goal, Brazil made mincemeat of others. World football history might have turned out very different, but Hungary had given him too good a kicking in the previous match. His partnership with Sivori for Juve is the stuff of legend, 2 very different players and characters gelling perfectly,

I was on holiday at Lake Maggiore- and was very surprised when an old shopkeeper there, learning i'm from Wales, said "iechyd da"; he had been a great fan of the gentle giant. I did manage "il gigante buono" in reply. That's what football should do; bring people of different nationalities together, instead of stirring up hatred.

A pity this song makes the mistake of "bueno". Otherwise thumbs up, good to have the video here.

yeah, kelvinl228, the treatment of Welsh sporting greats by the English establishment has been shameful. Think of the cricketing knights from various commonwealth countries, and the neglect of Gareth Edwards. And don't forget there was the mighty atom Jimmy Wilde, one of the handful of best boxers pound for pound (over 100 fights before first defeat). John Charles is too often forgotten in lists of top footballers- certainly the best all-rounder from Britain. I'm glad he's not forgotten in Italy

A fair point; Edwards was tremendous, had all the attributes- skill, power, engine, shot, determination etc- to dominate a game. And he was versatile. Charles was magnificent in 2 positions at opposite ends of the pitch; Billy Wright said he was the best centre forward he faced, and Nat Lofthouse said he was the best centre half. Anyway, too often people not up on their history make claims for players today, seemingly unaware of either Edwards or Charles. Same in so many areas of life.

Great song - great video. Modern day players should look at the King & see how the game should be played. Pele once said he thought if Brazil had not have beaten Wales in the '58 world cup that they would have won it. How great would that would have been for the king & Wales.
