i used to see john every now and then around elland road on match days and it was awesome for me this young lad just to glimpse the mighty king john. he was a true legend a player like him these days would be easily the greatest player on earth!!!!
Maybe so..but unfortunately he never got the chance to fulfil his potential...John Charles did..with Leeds , Juventus and Wales...you can only base an opinion on what you have seen...not what might have been.
John Charles era un eroe buono di un calcio che non c'è più. Era il campione preferito da mio fratello. Ora staranno giocando insieme nei pascoli del Cielo.
Thank you, my friend Johnfwake, for this memory and for this very beautiful video.
I tifosi italiani ricorderanno sempre questo grandissimo campione, così sfortunato nella vita.
Unfortunatyely i have never seen him playing...but people this was one of the best player around...great skills...and what made him huge was his fair play...never a yellow or a red card.
Of course if my Juventus had more men like him maybe now we would still be big in Europe.
Thank you. I knew John when he set up a sports business in Rhiwbina, Cardiff, Wales just after he retired from football. He was simply to nice a man to be ruthless in business. I again met and drove John towards the end of his life on two occasions. I was nobody yet he made me feel like somebody. A real gentleman who made a great impression on me and on all who met him.
What a pity he missed the world cup 1/4 final, lost only 1-0 to a late Pelé goal, Brazil made mincemeat of others. World football history might have turned out very different, but Hungary had given him too good a kicking in the previous match. His partnership with Sivori for Juve is the stuff of legend, 2 very different players and characters gelling perfectly,
Lovely song, loved the words, glad there is a memory in music to John, lovely video. Wish there was some movies on there. He was the best, no-one like him. Unique, a one off. Rest in peace John

Grande uomo grande centravanti poi diventato difensore nella roma. assirme a Sivori un MITO eterno per noi Juventini. Raggiungeva le nuvole con il suo stacco di testa, poi il cielo lo ha rapito. N.B. GIGANTE BUONO non BUENO
I was on holiday at Lake Maggiore- and was very surprised when an old shopkeeper there, learning i'm from Wales, said "iechyd da"; he had been a great fan of the gentle giant. I did manage "il gigante buono" in reply. That's what football should do; bring people of different nationalities together, instead of stirring up hatred.
A pity this song makes the mistake of "bueno". Otherwise thumbs up, good to have the video here.

Giampiero Boniperti, the most famous Juventus's president, that played i n the eand of '50 with J.Charles said about him: "The best foreign player that ever played in Juventus..."
Thank you very much for pointing that out. To late to change. Hope you enjoyed the song. I met John Charles on many occasions. He simply was the 'gentlest'and most unassuming man surely to have ever played sport. JFW
Figurati, il significato di questo bel video non cambia comunque di una virgola. Un campione ancora amato e rispettato in Italia. Complimenti per il tuo lavoro
There was a general poll amongst media , players and fans a like in Italy a few years ago, on what was the best eleven ever to play on their soil. John Charles wore the number 9 shirt.
Being only 22 i have never seen anything of John Charles and i am still disappointed because there isnt a video on this site, My Father says that he was the very best and if it wasnt for the Hungary in clobbering John Charles Wales would have beaten Brazil in the Semis and Would have gone on to win the 58' world cup and i wouldn't doubt him
Where,s our knighthoods ...John Charles ,Barry John ,Gareth Edwards,Joe Calazage,...........Gareth Edwards "IS" voted the best rugby player to have ever walked the planet .What,s all that about?
yeah, kelvinl228, the treatment of Welsh sporting greats by the English establishment has been shameful. Think of the cricketing knights from various commonwealth countries, and the neglect of Gareth Edwards. And don't forget there was the mighty atom Jimmy Wilde, one of the handful of best boxers pound for pound (over 100 fights before first defeat). John Charles is too often forgotten in lists of top footballers- certainly the best all-rounder from Britain. I'm glad he's not forgotten in Italy
the best allrounder from britian was duncan edwards he is hailed as the most compleate player ever.but big john should be given more credit for his ablity.
A fair point; Edwards was tremendous, had all the attributes- skill, power, engine, shot, determination etc- to dominate a game. And he was versatile. Charles was magnificent in 2 positions at opposite ends of the pitch; Billy Wright said he was the best centre forward he faced, and Nat Lofthouse said he was the best centre half. Anyway, too often people not up on their history make claims for players today, seemingly unaware of either Edwards or Charles. Same in so many areas of life.
of duncan's era charles is seen has the player of the same kind of type of player.both had great power and could use both feet and play a number of postions but even the leeds fans of the time say edwards was the best ever.
Great song - great video. Modern day players should look at the King & see how the game should be played. Pele once said he thought if Brazil had not have beaten Wales in the '58 world cup that they would have won it. How great would that would have been for the king & Wales. John Charles u r a Legend & will never be forgotten.
Beautiful song. Should be played every year on the anniversary of his death Thank you for sharing. I saw him play, he was King John. Never the like again
