Too bad Cessna 210's at that time didn't have autoland so Charlie Kern could join them at the ski lodge. He could have set autopilot for auto return to base, except light planes still don't have that feature, & commercial planes that do aren't cleared for that use. So ever sans class warfare, Charlie physically could not have delivered himself the way he delivered his employers. Even if he WAS chief pilot.
The episode shows a lot of old aircraft. That why I like the series. In this episode the guy who crashes is flying a piper caribean, shown in the cockpit of a early sixties era 100 200 series cessna , and shows him crashing a Taylor craft. And the airforce pilot are flying a b52 but in the cockpit of a b29 or b50.
When I saw this series, I wanted to learn to skydive. Then in the military, when I had to learn to parachute out of C-130's, I decided I really didn't want to jump out of a perfectly good, well functioning airplane.
Heights don't bother me...neither does the falling. It's the landing that bothers me.
@sm9847 Landing was my big hangup too. Round "rags"(I call them "butt-bangers) Set me down w/ a bruising "kerthump". Thank God 4 PLF's. Made 3 jumps under 390 "Goliaths at Kapowsin Washington. I never thought a soft parachute landing possible, but those rectangular parawings were sweet
I wrote a few short stories I called Ripcord in honor of this show. One thing I seemed to have called accurately was the class warfare b/n pilots & jumpers. "Airborne elevator operatoters? NO!"
Pulls reserve instead of main on his FIRST freefall? Passed through 1000' on his previous jump? They didn't say he had a malfunction of his main & pulled his reseve, so how can he pass below 1000' b/4 opening on a static line jump?
Dash Riprock and Festus.

Let's see if I can figure this out; the show's called 'Ripcord', but the episode's called 'Radar Rescue'?

3:46=If it weren't for airborne "elevator operators", skydivers wouldn't have class either back then-unless they base jumped.

If weren't 4 airborne elevator operators, you'd have no chance of jumping into the ski lodge.
