This is the first episode that introduces us to Batgirl played with Angelina Jolie type action style by Yvonne Craig. And i said it before and i say it again She's the REAL Batgirl more sexier than that vegan gal Alicia Silverstone from Fatman & Boy Blunder 1997. I love This version of Batgirl she has such a hot bod to kill for.
@Johnnyfive22...Catwoman for sure. This Batman TV series was fine until you reached 11 years old. I'm happy Adam West had the success he had back then. He's been stuck doing his own voice on Family Guy for ages now.
Note how Penguin's not afraid of shouting his lungs out, even though they are in the apartment next to the one where the Batman, Robin, and the hostage's father are in.
you'd think that gordon and o'hara would've found out batman and robins identity what with all the meetings between the two identities and the similer voices they have.
Wow, this is terrific! Thanks for the upload. Burgess Meredith as the Penguin just chews the scenery as if this is the most serious role of his career. It's awesome to behold, not a hint of tongue-in-cheek or "camp" in his performance.
You kidding? The whole person Penguin spells camp. I mean: the actor does keep it down as much as he can but the whole penguin thing is tongue in cheek and campy. But that s the character, not the actor playing him. Danny DeVito played him too and penguin stayed campy. Now, if they make penguin a man who DOESNT particularly LOOK like a penguin, he might become less campy.
@Superpiair1 Sure, the character and the way he's written are terrifically campy and impossible to take seriously. I'm talking about Meredith's performance, which treats the character as though he is 1) real and 2) a domineering badass. There is no "wink wink, look at me I'm a ridiculous Batman villain" as most of the other villain actors bring to their roles. Burgess Meredith is mean and deadly serious in what is essentially a comedic part.
@DakariKingMykan yes she is what about jokersrocket the frosted sword danice and the cats wiskers ihave photos of her idream of her at night ilove her song to whose babyare you batgirl batgirl where do you come from where do you go whats your screet we just gota no please write back your friend generalhawk1 ilove batgirl
So Barbara Gordon went to college for four years, got her bachelors degree and immediately became a librarian. This show was obviously made before librarians were required to have a master of library science to get hired.
Emmn.... "Enter Batgirl" sounds awfully suggestive. LOL I think they needed to change the title at that time? Or were they refering to every man's wish? :P "Exit Penguin" sounds like a lame excuse to cover up for "Enter Batgirl" title. LOL
@PsychoticLuke Entering her is exactly what the penguin was planning on doing after the wedding. Honeymoon night anyone? Although he didn't know that she was batgirl. So it should actually have been Enter Barbara.
Yvonne Craig was pretty and certainly looked goot in the Batgirl suit. But this was the season where the show jumped the shark. Three crimefighters were one too many for half-hour episodes. The stories were rushed, and the show had just run its course.
IF the producers had allowed Batgirl to be portrayed as the strong character she was in the comics at the time perhaps the scripts would have been better.
Here, she was just Batman's 'helper' as opposed to the kick butt crimefighter
Not quite. This is her first appearance in the series, but not her introductory episode. She previously appeared in the 7 min promo short which also featured Killer Moth. I have a feeling that this takes place immediately after that short because Barbara has recently returned from college, and also she might have not informed her father about when she met Bruce at the library in the promo.
Yvonne Craig's Batgirl appeared in Season Three of the Batman series, which ran 28 episodes that season (not including the never before scene pilot that introduced Batgirl). There was never a season four... The show was canceled in 1969 when the three major networks were starting to cancel shows that dealt with too much fantasy, and ushered in shows that dealt with the woman's lib movement... Shows such as Mary Tyler Moore Show and That Girl.
1969 was quintessentially called the year they canceled any show that had a tree in it: Meaning that most of the shows that were replaced took place in major cities and apartment complexes.
Let's wear these shirts that say "henchman" on the front and these black derbys. No one will ever suspect we're bad guys. Yeah, and since Commissioner Gordon is in the apartment next door, let's fire guns. No one will know there skullduggery afoot!
Actually Eartha Kitt was originally cast to play catwoman as she was known for her purrrrrrring ability. Julie Newmar was only given the part as Eartha Kitt was unable to play the role at the time.
Many say Batgirl ruined this show. I'm not so sure about that. The entire 3rd season was stupid (mainly 1 episode, no same bat time same bat channel) & that's why the show was cancelled after 3 seasons. But why do they mention Catwoman at the beginning of this show when the last villain they fought(at the end of the previous season) was actually Mr. Freeze? Did I miss something here? I don't think anybody mentions this is the episode where Robin/Dick gets his drivers license.
@Matty4 Hard question. I loved the Joker and the Riddler's over-the-top performances. Cesar Romero and Frank Gorshin were perfect. The sexiest villain was Julie Newmar as Catwoman. Gawd, I wanted her so bad.
@Matty4 That's a tough one. There's the Riddler and the Joker that had their unique laughs, and Joker seemed more sociable, like Penquin, the 3rd Season. Julie Newmar as Catwoman was awesome. Milton Berle as Louie the Lilac was classic. So, I guess my perennial favorites would be Joker, Catwoman, Penquin, and Riddler. Egghead (Vincent Price) was pretty cool also. Based on his background of sinister characters, he was EGGxactly ;) suited for that role! :)
@Matty4 Bob Kane musta been so pissed seeing this on TV back in the day. He created Batman as a dark vigilante in 1939 and this is what he had to live through. So sad.
Not just on Batman, either: Burgess was good at every acting job he got. I loved him in the Twilight Zone, especially in the episode "The Obsolete Man."
Thanks for posting these episodes. It's nice to see these after so long. Do you have the episodes with Van Johnson as the Minstrel from the second season? If so, could you post that? That would rock.
That is your opinion and I respect that but I really didn't like Eartha's rendition of Catwoman. But hey Eartha was 10 million times better than Halle "Razzie Winning" Berry
I couldn't agree more. I liked Lee Merriweather's movie version. Dozier & Horowitz had to find a replacement for the pregnant Julie Newmar. Why they didn't go back to Merriweather is beyond me. It could've been a race issue. Maybe the Batman cast was mostly white and they wanted to put in a minority villain. I think that's why they went w/Eartha instead of Merriweather. Eartha's Catwoman wasn't all that bad. Newmar's was simply better.
Great series! I wish Warner & 2oth Century Fox would get it together & release this entire series on DVD (preferably all at once- I don't trustt hem to release it all one season at a time)!
true it will never all be out if its one season at a time i know if u search amizon really hard they have it set up for the first season but for 2 years now they've gone back and forth from about to release the date its coming out
robinscute12345- I agree. They should come out with all of it at a reasonable price, all at once- just to be sure we will actually get all of it. IF Warner & 20th Century ever gets the war settled on the series' DVD release. Hopefully, they will add a bunch of great added stuff, too!
yes i completely agree harry4health they should stop arguing cause the rest of the world has been ready for it for a long time! They'd better add a lot of awsome bonus features!! i know a lot of episodes that i want to hear adam west and burt ward's comments on (^_^)
this was a cool episode although it would have been cool to see them bring robin up a notch. and even having other characters like ras al ghul, his daughter talia, poision ivy and other characters hardly used from the comics
Plenty were left out. Bane, Two-Face, Black mask, The everywhere man, scarface, firefly, killer moth, Ras , Talia, Gearhead, the red hood....plenty I'm forgetting
I think Two-Face would have been too scary or two something for this TV show. The rest of that list was not introduced yet except Killer Moth, who was lame.
I think the FalseFace episode was based on a comic ish featuring TwoFace. I used to have the Batbook, a brief summary of all the episodes, released just before Alan Napier's death. I remember reading that in Batbook. I think his name was changed in the series. Why? I don't know.
I just got the old batbook for christmas... i looked and it didnt say anything about it being two face. the closest thing was this episode based on the batman comic from june 1958.
Hey robinscute, I didn't mean the Batbook said the FalseFace villain was based on a comic book w/TwoFace. I looked in a comic book price guide for that ish & that's when I saw TwoFace. I couldn't find FalseFace in the guide or DC Universe Encyclopedia. I don't think FalseFace ever existed in the comics, unless it was meant to be TwoFace. Wasn't TwoFace a master of disguise?
o sry i didnt think he was he just had half his face burned and half not so hed flip his coin to see if hed do somthin bad or good for revenge thats what i kno about him atleast
I dunno know much about TwoFace except what I saw in Batman Forever. I don't think he ever appeared on any of the Batman cartoons in the 70s (maybe a couple episodes in the 90s.) I thought that series was really dark. I never watched it much. Nothing like the witty non-drama action-packed late 60s series.
Poison Ivy was introduced almost a decade before the show debuted. Why didn't Kane, Dozier & Horowitz fit her into the 60s show? Same w/Tweedledee & Tweedledum, Clayface & even Scarecrow (all of them major foes of the duo)? Calendar Man woulda been perfect for the show but he wasn't introduced until at least the mid-late 70s.
Not RedHood. That's pre-Joker. During a fight w/Bats he slipped into a pit of toxic waste or acid & that's how the Joker's skin became so pale white. He was supposedly killed by drowning in the pit but somehow survived in the pool of acid. Before Joker was Hood & his current persona he was a hypnotist. Though RedHood itself isn't mentioned in the series, the hypnotist part is mentioned in the episode "The Impractical Joker".
You forgot Tweedledee & Tweedledum. Also Scarecrow and Clayface. All those villains were introduced well before 1966 (year Batman series debuted). Yeah I know, Clayface would've been out of place for the 60s show. I don't recall Shame, King Tut, Egghead, Puzzler, Marsha Queen of Diamonds or Bookworm ever being in the comics version of Batman. If so, they must have been very minor. Actually, come to think of it, Egghead was a Marvel Comics heavy. He fought the Avengers.
Dude this series was in the late 60s. A lot of the villains you're bringing up weren't created until at least the 70s or 80s, well after this show ended its run. Some even didn't come out until the 90s. You're 2 maybe 3 decades ahead of the show.
Um. I wanna bang Robin.

I wish Warner & 2oth Century Fox would get it together & release this entire series on DVD (preferably all at once- I don't trustt hem to release it all one season at a time)!
harry4health 3 years ago 4
true it will never all be out if its one season at a time i know if u search amizon really hard they have it set up for the first season but for 2 years now they've gone back and forth from about to release the date its coming out
robinscute12345 3 years ago 3
robinscute12345- I agree.

They'd better add a lot of awsome bonus features!! i know a lot of episodes that i want to hear adam west and burt ward's comments on (^_^)
robinscute12345 3 years ago
Adam W & Burt W commentary on episodes would be one good feature, if they ever get their act together & release the series!

Burgess Meredith is the greatest Batman villian ever.

I love how all the bad guys are wearing shirts that say "Henchman."

Everything in Batman is labeled. Even the people.

This was okay, but the other Penguin episodes weren't so bad....Sport of Penguins, A Horse of
Another Colr, and Penguin's Clean Sweep....they were interesting episodes, even the Shame saga.
dxrulz4life 4 years ago
I like this one because Penguin says "Bats! Bats! I'm surrounded by bats!!!"

this was a cool episode although it would have been cool to see them bring robin up a notch. and even having other characters like ras al ghul, his daughter talia, poision ivy and other characters hardly used from the comics
nemass26 4 years ago
Ra's Al Ghul and Talia had not been introduced in the comics when the 60s Batman TV series came out
bobowayney 4 years ago 2
Plenty were left out. Bane, Two-Face, Black mask, The everywhere man, scarface, firefly, killer moth, Ras , Talia, Gearhead, the red hood....plenty I'm forgetting
Xero817 4 years ago
I think Two-Face would have been too scary or two something for this TV show. The rest of that list was not introduced yet except Killer Moth, who was lame.

I think the FalseFace episode was based on a comic ish featuring TwoFace. I used to have the Batbook, a brief summary of all the episodes, released just before Alan Napier's death. I remember reading that in Batbook. I think his name was changed in the series. Why? I don't know.
bucky468 3 years ago
I just got the old batbook for christmas... i looked and it didnt say anything about it being two face. the closest thing was this episode based on the batman comic from june 1958.
robinscute12345 3 years ago
Hey robinscute, I didn't mean the Batbook said the FalseFace villain was based on a comic book w/TwoFace. I looked in a comic book price guide for that ish & that's when I saw TwoFace. I couldn't find FalseFace in the guide or DC Universe Encyclopedia. I don't think FalseFace ever existed in the comics, unless it was meant to be TwoFace. Wasn't TwoFace a master of disguise?
bucky468 3 years ago
o sry i didnt think he was he just had half his face burned and half not so hed flip his coin to see if hed do somthin bad or good for revenge thats what i kno about him atleast
robinscute12345 3 years ago

Calendar Man woulda been perfect for the show but he wasn't introduced until at least the mid-late 70s.
bucky468 2 years ago
Bane didn't appear until the 1990's. Same with most of those villians.
GS336 3 years ago
Not RedHood. That's pre-Joker. During a fight w/Bats he slipped into a pit of toxic waste or acid & that's how the Joker's skin became so pale white. He was supposedly killed by drowning in the pit but somehow survived in the pool of acid. Before Joker was Hood & his current persona he was a hypnotist. Though RedHood itself isn't mentioned in the series, the hypnotist part is mentioned in the episode "The Impractical Joker".
bucky468 3 years ago
