  • fuck!

  • i wonder what he plays on his spare time when no one is there

  • Quelle Horreur, il est plus préoccupé par ses singeries que par ce qu'il joue. Il joue n'importe quoi, il massacre la partition le Liszt!

  • Many younger students seem to think that “sensitive playing” is aided (or implied) by body language. I find it annoying to see musicians bending & smiling & grimacing. And from the standpoint of his promoters it’s good business. And I think we all dislike the smell of that. Could he make a career for himself without telling us how to feel about his playing? If he had Kempff’s demeanor would he have a career? Fair or not his flamboyant body language represents a lack of authenticity.

  • look at him play at andrea bocelli's concert in Tuscani. He is fabulous!

  • You are not an Actor Lang Lang you are a pianist.. Ohh my, now time for more 1953 Horowitz's version.

  • he plays w/ a lot of hutzpah, but like damn dude, sometimes you need to learn to have a little bit of control over your musical impulses. otherwise, it ceases to be art. it turns into recess.

  • All you guys are just busy mocking Lang Lang, when he does the only thing you guys don't, to have fun. I agree, Lang Lang's interpretation isn't the best, but it's completely immature to judge him by his facial expressions. Music is meant to be heard, not watched. So close your eyes, and listen again.

  • @SuhmMusic

Those are fair points and I agree with the substance of your comment. At the same time, there’s a sense that his focus is on showmanship.

  • @PJinBston

I agree that his focus is partly on showmanship. But you can't deny that he brings some kind of entertainment.

  • 4:10 lololololololololololololololololololololololololol the chair moves. Quasi circus.

    Great performance, though.

  • too much technique. That's the problem. He can't help it.

  • AMERICAN Richard Kastle proved that American exceptionalism is present in classical music, as well as the usual stuff, keeping the world safe from terrorists. His CD outsold the RUSSIAN and CANADIAN acts. CHINESE pianist Lang Lang has a lot of press and sales, but he plays the easier vesion. It doesn't count as the same accomlishment.

The fact is that the USA produced the first recording artist in history who could play the octave ending the way Liszt intended.

  • his ending sounds a bit like how i used to play in kindergarten.

  • :S

  • @LadiesMan1872 is it Tom and Jerry?

  • wow. .1st time i heard this interpretation. .it was quite good if you ask me. .some pianist's interpretation of this piece was eh boring. .but this made me happy. .this is awesome. .he plays it like it's nothing. .also, it reminds of a cartoon. .

  • When you listen carefully to all available recorddings of this most beautiful piece of music art, you'll notice that not one is identical in terms of performance to antoher, because musical performance, just like performance of any other type of art is a matter of personal interpretation combined with technical skill, emotional talent and virtuosity. And the same may be qually said about our individual taste as audience. I personally like this beautiful, talented playing, it's just great (: (:

  • "BANG BANG" or "CLANG CLANG"

  • dude, he needs a haircut

  • Lang Lang is a performer, not a pianist or an artist. A lot of wrong notes at the end. His distorted facial expression is very annoying and misleading.

  • i don't like this guy

  • The reason why people hate Lang Lang is that they take his exaggerated motions for pride. I can see why this is the case. However, you cannot deny his talent. The interpretation is brilliant, showcasing a lot of emotion and technical skill.

  • Funny how many people doesn't like his style of playing. I wonder how this piece evolved? Oh, I got it. Horowitz added a few variations to Liszt's original piece. So, for the purists out there: get a life. No one knows how a piece of piano music is suppose to be played because only the original composer would know it. Those who follow has to interpret what the original intend of the composer was. And Lang Lang is not a purist. He likes to add technical difficulty to already technical piece.

  • I love this! And I don't care if you guys don't. Let's just respect each other's opinion all right.

  • like the MC commercial says - just because you can it doesn't mean you should !

  • I laughed out so many times just by hearing this piece. Langlang's fans have adequate reasons to like his performance, aren't they? LOL

Though I feel sorry for Liszt fans.

  • i actually like the way he plays the dude's so playful look at him and tell me you cant love the way he performs!

  • you guys must be crazy, If his face is do distracting, Please look away and close your eyes... Look/listen at the music... i love lang lang's whimsicality and distinct style. You can tell he is just overwhelmed and the synergy between him and the piece... I just have to say hear my out and look away if you have to.. but dont patronize this profound virtuoso.

  • Lang Lang created 635 youtube accounts to like his video!

  • DETESTEI essa versão!!!

  • Tom plays it better than Lang Lang!

  • He looks like jet lee with long hair

  • Lizt would have been so proud =´)... hahahahaha

  • My piano teacher always forbids me to nod the head, as she describes it 'being a Chinese jolter-head'. Lang Lang perfectly fits this description, although his techique is close to a synthesizer..

  • He moves like a clow that's true, but if you r really know about music u will find the movement follows spontaneously with music.

  • so fast his kill the piano huhuhu

  • he ruined this song for me

  • ...close your eyes bitches and listen.. maybe some of you will hear music..

  • oh my GOD what the hell is he doing???? such an ENERGY! amazing amazing amazing! fantastic job!!!!!!!!

  • Chinese gay clown at his best. Complete butchery.

  • @totalannihilator99

    TA GUEULE...

  • i love his movements he makes while he plays

  • che pagliaccio. Senza offendere i grandi clown, da Buster Keaton ad Harpo Marx a Grock, a Oleg Popov.

  • For him to play piano like to make a scramble eggs

  • For him to play piano like to make a scramble eggs

  • Why does he play liszt... not his style.

He plays as if he needs to catch a train in 5 minutes.

  • Un po' pazzo?

  • Un po' pazzo?

  • Lang Lang performance and the reaction of those audience are so real and vigorous ... don't need to bother with those bad mouth.

  • Lang Lang performance and the reaction of those audience are so real and vigorous ... don't need to bother with those bad mouth.

  • Liszt wil come and kill him..!

  • Безусловно выдающийся виртуоз. Но нравятся ли его трактовки, однозначно ответить "да" нельзя.

  • Oh my... What happend? I hardly recognise the piece! LOL

  • @Seleuce

Exacly, he totaly 'raped' it :O

  • i think this is a poser pianist xD

the music he play is horrible... really horrible interpretation u.u.

  • I like this interpretation because he does bring out many of the nuances, despite it being quite loud and show offy; I'm pretty sure Liszt wrote half of his pieces as show off pieces. And I laugh at those who say Lang Lang plays like shit, because I'm sure all of them can't play this piece half as well, so they are actually calling themselves shit. At least the audience enjoyed it.

  • compared to hamelin this lang lang is a total monkey

  • LANG LANG IS A CLOWN

  • Klimpern!

  • This music is disgusting to Liszt

  • yes, you're perfectly right

  • @PrincessDesert you don't know shit about a dead man's perspective.

  • @telephowned yea I do, I'm his reincarnation

  • When I see him, I think of Bugs Bunny !

  • Lang Lang must be fucking bored with most music, lol.

  • I actually like this so much. His version is much more exciting than the one played by Horowitz (im talking about this arrangement, made by horowitz) in youtube

i like him. besides, he's so humble and funny

  • I hate this guy, with all my heart.

  • kk.

  • can anyone play this song right . :| its to hard I guess

  • oh good god, he destroys yet another one.... ashame such techical talent used to just ruin a true master piece....

  • @joe69rocket >> try more classes, you have to blame Horowitz, not Lang Lang, LOL !!

  • That mullet should say enough....

  • @freedomado What's wrong with you? You think you own a monopoly over how musical pieces are performed? You're mad. Read the description. Lang Lang is a musical genius and piano prodigy to say the LEAST. If you don't like it, gtfo.

  • @iDrowzee about as genious as the presidnet of the united states, and we all hopefully know how big of an idiot he is

  • @nmbanana He is bad. But you're no better if you think there's a monopoly over how music is played. As long as it remains music (I don't hear Justin Bieber singing, so it's definitely music), there's no limit to the ways you can play music.

  • He is one of the best young piano players. That's absolute. He also tried to play without so many body movements, but failed. That's his style

  • hes actually quite good.Capable of great technique. i just hate his interpretations of most pieces.MOst of his performances dont make much sense to me musically.i can still respect him for being a good artist.

  • Regarless of who likes and enjoys Lang Lang and who doesn't, he is still an artist and I will never be able to play this piece like he does. :)

  • so shit...

  • esecuzione orrenda...un bordello che non si capisce niente.ovviamente si capisce che lo fa per divertire la gente.e a me piace per questo.ovviamente Lang Lang suona anche bene in altri contesti....

  • to me, he is such a spoiled child with parents or something bribing money to get him on stage. no theater would take his performance into their program. his face is like, 'yeah, i play shit for you, i don't give a damn because my parents are damned rich"

  • @bieto2002 i guess you are absolutely wrong about him. Lang Lang has his own character that many outsiders do not know. Ignorant freaks criticise his playing - which i don't know why. But some pieces i hear he play with very rich chinese culture in it.

  • litonsim: it is this simple. this guy is capable of great technique and expressionism, but what has been driving him to play with ridicule and act as a cloud on the piano? i do not care what character he has; i only care if he makes sense in his playing and expression. he can have his madness at home, but i want to see him drag in on the piano like that. how do you understand his character, by the way?

  • His parents is poor indeed

  • Where did he go to school and learn how to play like this?

  • I don't know why people complain about his interpretation of this piece...it is an exciting piece and Lang Lang sure does show it. He is enjoying this piece...after all, he is not fake when you understand him

  • Tom cat !

  • He plays piano about as well as his barber cuts hair.

  • @FrankSally lol

  • @FrankSally i would love to see you upload this song and play it as good as him :) in the words of Gandalf "you fool of a took"!

  • @MusicisLife373 I can't play piano at all. But you don't see me getting up on stage and showing everyone how much I suck at it.

  • @FrankSally your clearly a melon peach head :) good luck with that :) and also clearly full of enve!

  • @MusicisLife373 I do envy someone who can make money while having so little talent. Sure he's better at piano than me, but that's not really saying much.

  • pieprzony błazen

  • Beutiful ---- Bravo !

  • @dorisig yeah, you dumb ass

  • I cant see Jarry :( too bad ! but I bet I saw his scissors at 1:34

  • Great technician, not such a hot musician. His face (& sound) say "look at me, don't you think I'm FABulous??"

It's impressive, but I'm a bit sick of hearing impressive - I want to hear beauty and passion. Sadly, our world is losing it's beauty and passion, and consequently, so is our art.

  • I like him here. But discs of his playing Beethoven and Chopin proved kind of a failure. Banal.

  • This is really terrible. And people listen to this chinese clown without throwing their seats at his face ?????

  • GREAT! GREAT !

  • i also play this - for those who want to listen to another interpretation visit my page

  • to all the people that say lang lang sux.

if he sux why has he played in the 07 Nobel Prize concert in Stockholm, or play with Herbie Handcock, get a spot in Carnegie Hall, or play in the 08 Olympics?

  • I'm sure many other artists like the Jonas Brothers perform at a lot of very important events that they don't deserve to be performing at, so your argument isn't very valid. Nice try.

  • However, the Jonas Brothers are in a completely different bracket of music. We're talking about someone who has worked extremely hard, who has been recognised for being brilliant, who has inspired many kids around the world to play the piano, and who wants to show how fun playing these pieces can be!

  • No, he didn't really work that hard, China just made him extremely popular and he's only been recognized for "being brilliant" because "brilliant" to the world today is "how fast can he play without having to pause or restart?" If you want somebody who's worked extremely hard, then you listen to Richter, Bronfman, Horowitz, Cortot, Rubinstein, Emanuel Ax, Arrau, etc. And really, music is supposed to be fun? I suggest you listen to Chopin Piano Concertos or Tchaikovsky's 6th Symphony.

  • @ reaper1545: i think it is time you became less naive about this world: it is pretty much a place where politics and money have a huge power. Politics and money! They are the things behind that get Bang Bang to such spots. I can't think of any other reason other than these, since his playing is really damaging to classical music.

  • @bieto2002 It seems as if you don't know anything about Lang Lang. He was unknown in the US and had a job as a secondary pianist. One day, the main pianist got sick on the day of the performance, and he was called up to perform. He gave a stellar performance, and that was what caused him to become so famous. Please learn about subjects you are speaking on so you don't seem like an idiot. Also, I don't see how he is damaging to classical music. Please enlighten me.

  • @Chuckles543 i can't enlighten you now. you are already brainwashed. get the bugs out of your mind and then talk with me.

  • @bieto2002 I see, I am brainwashed because I know how Lang Lang became famous, while you thought it was because he somehow bribed his way into Carnegie Hall with money and his father is some sort of powerful politician. I would hope that you see the hypocrisy in your comment. I invite you to look up at least some basic history about Lang Lang before you speak. And no, Lang Lang isn't my famous pianist. I'm just sick of people who know nothing about piano bitching about a perfectly fine pianist.

  • @Chuckles543 im with you! i'd like to see all the people who are slagging him off play even half as good as this!

  • @bigdaveoncampus

    Shut up :)

  • I won't say he's not a good pianist at all...but a musician, as any other artist, expresses himself through his medium which in his case is the piano. It seems to me like he has a huge ego problem and it just comes out as piano rape. Basically the only part I like is at 3:23. But at 3:25 I already wanna punch him in the face.

  • His music has no beauty!!!!!!!!

  • Lang Lang has great technique. But he has a terrible ego. He may not show it in interviews, but when he plays, all he does is over-exaggerate by pulling back tempos to the point of madness, and do these stupid faces and stuff that would make the audience laugh, but not at the music, at HIM. He brings all the attention to himself rather than the music he plays. His playing is also very dull. I've tried to like Lang Lang, but I just can't do it. I prefer others like Bronfman or Horowitz.

  • this is actually the best description of him ive ever heard

  • maybe he does that. not because of his ego. but to bring something different. and maybe to keep people awake at stuff like that.

  • Why would he even NEED to keep people awake in the first place? Horowitz, Richter, and Rubinstein sure didn't need to, most of the time they were VERY serious on stage, hardly ever moved a muscle. The audiences they performed for were so moved by their performances, so moved that of course they were awake, because they were listening to the actual music they produced. Lang Lang produces no music, which is why, without the crazy movements, people would fall asleep.

  • lang lang has something called youthfullness, and something that i think more classical musicians need is to move with the music physically not just emotionally.

  • I want you to start living as a gay woman.

  • Why? What's the point? Moving like crazy doesn't change the way you play. Pianists don't need it, they just do it to make it more of a "show", sadly. Kissin sort of over-exaggerates a bit, too, but not extremely like Lang Lang. All it does is put the attention on you, like I said.

In fact, Beethoven's advice for piano is first: push your fingers down, second: refrain from doing any unnecessary movements, and third: make the instrument sing.

Lang Lang is only doing one of those things.

  • Comment removed

  • much better than horowiz

  • His interpretation sucks! With this style of playing no one has a control on tempos. By such a style he neglects all delicacy of notes. Definitely he is talented. But he is not a "perfect" pianist.

  • omg how bad -.-

  • this is starting to rub off on me, I'm actually starting to enjoy his version...

  • THAT'S MUSIC!!!!!!

  • completely agree with you! :D

  • After reading comments about many Lang Lang's videos, it seemed that so many people are conceptually orthodox. I guess almost all of us are orthodox in some ways at some point of our lives because we are human. However, to me, it is a little freaky yet still boring to face with ideas that are spontaneously tranditionalist.

  • I just wish that I have such a talent then I think I will be more helpful to both myself and others!

  • um is it "wish that i had"? Would someone please help me with my English. Thanks ^^

  • we wouldn't say we are orthodox. we just want to see sense and musicality in a pianist's playing. think about this. if you eat cheese and mustard together, you will vomit, won't you? the same here!

  • do you know what excerpt this is?

  • I cant believe this is going over the heads of so many of you, its not meant to be like the original, hes slotting different sections ontop of each other which is very clever since it actually works, its just a shame that the recording is so bad

  • 4:00 is CRAZY!

  • Piece of crap.

  • he is not A piece of crap he is THE piece of crap

  • What an awful sound of that piano!!! Where was this played? at some public school auditorium?? Geee!

  • its not the piano its the player

  • that piano is actually a steinway, but because of his playing, it sounds like crap

  • Banana. I assume that you think that you could improve on his performance.

As soon as you are recongized all over the world and have thousands of fans, should you attempt to critcize.

To sum you up in one word "Asshole!"

  • bare in mind thousands in the entire world is nothing and im one of the few people to not go with what others think. if you actually listened to it as music and ignore what he looks like or who he is and when u compare this to other young pianists, you will find lang lang's playing obsolete

p.s. when u going around calling people names, YOU make a huge ass of yourself

  • hitler was also recognized around the world and had thousands of fans but that doesn't make him any good

  • Actually If you think about it, that's the place where He should be, Playi... Entertaining Kids.

  • This is good compared to his other versions tbh.

  • Hahah, read your comment, so true, made me laugh for ages. I've played this piece for about six years now, and he simplifies it, makes mistakes and simply destroys it bit by bit without any regard for musicality or composer's intent.

  • is that why hes the famous one between you two lol

  • he raped liszt with his performance! over and over

  • God what a complete MESS you idiots saying this is amazing probably have no musical education whatsoever , not to mention mistakes in ever OTHER MEASURE of the entire piece , he is completley overrated

  • He sounded like a poor little child who had practised for hours and hours and he wanted to rush it through the last time he plays, so that he can go out and play.

  • And I am reminded of why I dislike Lang Lang so much.

  • Hyper speed! No feeling , nothing!

  • Guys- he sounds better than Horowitz there! (Not that Horowitz wasn't good, but it's a real stunning performance.) Hello!? How many of you cleaned your ears recently? He sounds great!

  • No, dear, Horowitz wasn't so volgar and ridiculous. Pleas don't let's merge chocolate with...something other. Public was laughing...yes, this is the right dimension of LL's musicality and musical deepness.

  • no good interpretation he has good skills with his fingers i think but i like the performans of Maxim Myrcra much more, because he puts a lotta more feelings in it and that makes it sound much better and so on. I study the same piece at the moment

I've practiced the have of the whole piece. It's so difficult to play:D really it is:D And i can't play it as fast.

  • Come on guys... I´m sure his interpretation was supposed to be different or funny. So don´t judge him on that single piece.

  • THANK-YOU!

    SOMEONE agrees with me!

  • 2:44-2:56 would kill liszt if he was still alive

  • Come on, he sounds great!

People should stop harassing poor Lang Lang. You have to admit it, the man has talent.

  • first of all he has been playing for years and years and years and second of all, did you take the audio of this piece and close your eyes and listen to it and then do the same with a cziffra interpretation; you would hear a HUGE difference

  • and if you truly listened to his interpretation, you would be disgusted

  • was this a serious performance at all? O_O. it was really bad

also, sometimes i can't tell if he's having a spasm or if he's playing

and yeah based on previous trends, imma get thumbs downed a ton...

  • horowitz loses to berezovsky. horowitz might have been more creative, but berezovsky just destroys horowitz in technique and clarity.

  • Lang Lang - First name "Lang" Second Name "Lang"? lol

Plus that one with the hideous curly hair was in the way at the end.

  • aka the most ridiculously exaggerated concert pianist. watch his liebestraum interpretation. its more funny then anything. -_-

  • Theres two.

  • if u type in liebestraum, its the first result.

  • Sisso's vid?

  • Everybody and nobody likes to be compared to Horowitz.. He's no Horowitz.

  • this guy must have some water
