@Londonpixxie That's not uncommon! Ride is through - real food doesn't make you feel ill - coming off processed rubbish does. Loads of help available at theharcombedietclub (com)
@ZoeHarcombe Thank you so much Zoe i am impressed by the prompt reply.Just one question can i eat Sweet corns,i love them boiled or grilled with out butter or dressings.I am also reluctant using olive oil that i may not lose weight.(because that's how i have been CONDITIONED about fats:)
it's really funny but i'd never heard of this diet...but I've been doing it for the past 7 days after 2 years of continually being 2 stone overweight, despite swimming 4 times a week. I gave up the swimming and stuck to lean meat, fish, vegetables, eggs, and just 50g of brown rice a day (a coincidence, but matches this diet) - because it just sounds like common sense. My vices are dark chocolate so I have a couple of squares a day. Nothing else processed. Lost 4lbs in first 3 days. It works.
if we dont eat digestable carbs(sugar, fruits, sweet potatoes, squashes) the body Is FORCED to create its own glucose via gluconeogenesis.. Thats Not A Good thing! Its a Stress Responce and Its Highly Catabolic that means u produce extra Adrenaline and Cortisol and Increase Inflammation and breakdown protein from muscles and organs to create glucose.. That is not healthy!! To loose weight One has to be Healthy First!!
@Donal277 u r right!! she thinks that just going low carb the body will only loose body fat BUT its not the only lost there is with low carb diet.. as u mention u also loose water(some needs to go but some must stay)glycogen, muscle and also bone density!! she is wrong at saying we dont need carbs in the diet!! Liver/Thyroid Do need glucose to convert inactive T4 to Active T3 and Support The Whole metabolism!!
I haven't done this diet - I studied on my own and went low-carb with high fat and protein, and my fastest weight loss was in the first week - about 22 lbs. After that I continued to lose over 5 lbs per week with no issues. And that was with eating 3600-4200 calories a day (combined with lots of cycling, as I love it...)
If you eat right, losing only 1-2lbs a week would seem really low. If that's all you can lose on a PROPER diet, there's something else wrong.
question, just want to be sure, the book says no milk in phase 1, question: can i have cream in phase 1. I no that we should not have coffee, but I'm scared to give that up I only have 1 per day and not too much caffeine in it. But can I have the cream, or no, just meat, vegs, in phase 1..and eggs..no cheese..groan
Hi zoe. i was just wondering, is there any possible way to return to a 'normal' diet after the harcombe diet? we are saddly a society based on convinience foods (sugary cereals etc) and i personaly struggle with the time needed to be invested in eating healthy. this point was made painfully obvious to be today when i jumped on the scale. after phase 1 i managed to lose 4.6lbs (BIG thankyou!) but after one 'cheat' day of eating special K and milk, and 1 tsp peanut butter i managed to gain 4lbs..
Hi there - The number 1 principle of the diet is to eat real food - hence I hope you would never go back to Special K - porridge yes, sugary cr@p no! You need to stick with the core of meat, fish, eggs, dairy, veg, salad & not much fruit/whole grains even during the weight loss phase. I've maintained 110lbs (I'm 5'2") for 15 yrs in Phase 3 &, when eating FOOD become habit, it's easy. Cheat with food, not branded sugar & white flour! Best wishes - Zoe
Hello Zoe I got your bokk "stop counting calories..." from amazon.usa..and finally got it a week ago..Im on my third day phase one and wanna know what about the fatty on meats..like bacon..shoould I drain all fatty first..eat lean meat?...mayonaisse is ok ?? i weighted myself morning day one and Im 230 lbs...wont weight again till next morning after day 5..Im gonan do great I know!! Thnk you before hand for your time!!
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. Show me the proof, then show me the science!
There always has to be a 'secret' doesn't there? On the one hand you have Atkins, on the other Ornish - high fat versus high carb. Whilst I'm sure what you offer is perfectly reasonable, I'll bet it falls somewhere in between, and that's ok.
My problem is stupid claims of big initial weight losses that do no one any service.
Are you telling me that the water loss that goes with glycogen depletion will not come back when that muscle and liver glycogen is restored (as undoubtedly it will be)?
It is very rare to have regain reported when people move onto Phase 2. Hence someone can be several lbs down after a few days and then carry on losing. You need to read the book to fully understand the background to this. It came from trying to understand why people overeat when they want more than anything to be slim. I came across 3 v common conditions that cause insatiable food cravings and the diet was designed to overcome these. Food intolerance water retention is huge
It's v rare for regain in Phase 2 - brown rice, veg etc are allowed from day 1 so glycogen need not go too low. Hence people can be several lbs down after 5 days & carry on losing, You need to read the book to understand why. I set out to answer the question - why do we overeat when we want more than anything to be slim. I came across 3 v common conditions that cause insatiable food cravings & the diet is designed to overcome these. Food intolerance water retention is huge
I've checked out the website and it seems ok. However, claiming a 14lb (record is 17lb apparently) is reprehensible and designed solely to pull in the punters.
You know full well that massive weight loss like that can only be attributed to water loss.
No matter what way you do it, 1 - 2lb per week is the only way to go.
The trouble is everyone wants to lose 7lb week on week, and look to the likes of The Biggest Loser for inspiration. It's always dishonest to promote quick fix.
It happened! I didn't design a diet to lose this kind of weight in 5 days, but it has happened several times (19lb is the new record) and yes most of it is water - unnatural water retention caused by processed foods and food intolerance and people look and feel hugely better without this. Many people would not need blood pressure medication if they stopped eating processed junk. As for the 2lb a week - I blow this myth apart in my book The Obesity Epidemic
@ZoeHarcombe People want to lose adipose tissue. Yet you still promote losing water , glycogen , muscle mass and adipose as some thing to be advocated.
@ZoeHarcombe Hi Zoe-You are an angel! I will get started on the diet and look forward to great results! Thanks so much for your kindness and wanting to help people!!
Pleasure! Sorry if I sounded a bit frustrated too - Mark has sent you the 10 day plan and that will give you an idea. If you know all about Candida and food intolerance you will love the connections this makes with weight and cravings. Phase 1 should really get you on track
@ZoeHarcombe Oh gosh it was me that was frustrated-please accept my apologies! I guess one gets pretty cranky after having Candida, gluten intolerance and weight that won't come off going on 4 years now! That was the reason for my crankiness! Thanks Zoe, and I will let you know how I do! :)
Ok, I am sure the book is very valuable as I believe you know what you are talking about. All I was wanting is a diet to get started on for maybe the 5 days and if I feel it is working-then I will upgrade and/or get the book. I have Candida and gluten intolerance and had a lot of food intolerances so I know this would help me.
Oh no I don't. I understand that. But I thought there would be at least a diet to follow on your website once I signed up. If I just read what is there I still don't know what to eat and when? So that is what I meant. I know you have to make a living. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
It's the other way round - the diet club was set up at our expense to help people doing the diet. It wasn't set up to sell the book - it assumes you've got it or read a friend's. Everything you need is in the book - I put a ton of stuff (and videos) on line also at my expense - you can't expect me to give away a book with 20 years of research and experience behind it for free?! I need to pay the bills too!
Hi there - assuming you don't already have a BMI of 22 or lower, yes you can! The diet was designed to be the perfect diet for the 3 conditions, but it is still a very effective diet even if you don't have these. 1) Because you don't count calories, you don't slow your metabolism down and start your body fighting you. 2) The no-processed foods means you avoid all the 'empty' calories and 3) the not mixing fats & carbs makes storing fat very difficult. Try it and see!
Can i eat boiled sweet corns.also my body is aching like hell im on day three.
