  • Don't just worry about the meat taste! What about the higher levels of E Coli in corn fed cows. Because of that, they need antibiotics. Now we're eating that. Also, don't forget about the milk we're drinking from these antibiotic cows.

  • you dumb bitch at the end! "you would sacrafice flavor for politics?" u dumb bitch, i would sacrafice a part of my finger for what's right and healthy.

  • corn fed beef is nut humane and it doesn't taste good. Anyone who thinks corn fed beef is the best tasting obviously hasn't been to Argentina or France or any other country renowned for great beef. Guess what, all of the beef there is grass fed.

  • It also depends how you cook it. More fat allows you to be a lazy cook and still get it right.

Grass fed is better for the farmer and, relatively, the environment. It just depends where it comes from.

Also corn fed cattle also goes to a "feed lot" before butchering. If you have driven by one, you know why they are a bad thing!

  • she sure knows how to ruin a grass-fed steak.

  • guess no one's gunna mention how they feed them munched up cow with their corn.

  • You can't cook grass-fed beef as much as corn-fed. It has less fat, so of course it's going to turn out tougher.

And with grass-fed, you don't have to worry about E-Coli, so it's OK to eat it more rare.

  • @strid3r34 Yeah you do have to worry. All cattle have the capability to carry E. coil O157:H7. Go ask a livestock veterinarian. Eating it rare is okay with both though.

  • @strid3r34 and why dont you have to worry about e-coli in grass fed? id like to see your sources

  • @depsterboy E-coli from feedlot corn fed cattle comes from them standing in their feces for the first miserable part of their life where it can live on them in the caked on shit and subsequently taint the food end product - beef. Sure the same thing could happen with a grass fed cow however the chances are drastically lower.

  • like the honesty and the thoughtful conversation at the end

  • corn fed is not sustainable. period.

  • @franzb69 that's funny, seems to me like the corn fed beef industry has been sustaining it self for quite some time

  • @TheUncleBastard no it's funny that you completely misconstrued the comment. hehe.

  • While in the blind test, they both preferred corn fed, ....tough and gamey and way more expensive is the popular choice amongst the NPR sheep, not at all surprising, no one ever said liberals are rational.

  • Great information! I personally like the taste of grass fed beef better.

  • Cows of any breed eat grass! Period! it's natural!

Cows should not be fed with corn! It hurts them while digesting it!

Our taste nerves are ruined! We don't appreciate the 'tougher' taste of real muscle meat from beef!

  • Boycott NPR!

  • Grass fed is so much better tasting.

  • Grass fed meat looks gooooood.

  • Grassfed meat need to realize is grassfed and corn fed beef cook differently. Most modern cookbooks are made for corn fed meat. You need to find an old cookbook or the book called Tender Grassfed meat by Stanley A. Fishman Meat to learn to cook grass fed meat tender. Using the same recipe won't work.

  • Tenderness of meat also depends on age of the animals and some might say breed/variety. However, there is also the issue of the cut of beef and how or if it was aged. It's like if you seared a young lamb or an older one. There would be a big difference as it concerned tenderness. I'm not exactly sure if this comparison was completely fair. But hey, whatever.

  • Whatever kind of meat u eat it is still high in fat n cholesterol with no fiber which clogs up ur arteries n toxify ur bloodstream.......cooked protein is damaged n could not be absorbed by the body. It is stored as toxins which forms disease overtime

  • @haha00z :

Hang on, if it's not absorbed by the body how could it be stored as toxin?

  • @amstud because it could not be eliminated

  • I have come to understand, corn fed cattle develop serious ecoli gut infections. The msm in grass naturally controls ecoli. This is why corn fed animals raised standing in their excrement are injected with antibiotics. The contaminated waste from millions of corn fed animals is usually unregulated.

  • @toodance you dont know what you are talking about

  • Wait...what? Grass have Omega 3's??? I'm off to the nearest grassy knoll to chow down! ;)

  • This is incredible! My two favorite entities, Cooks Illustrated and NPR, coming together to make beautiful babies. Sign me up! And since when is corn-fed a grocery store beef? Oh wait... that's right, I live in the Napa Valley...ha! : ) Great work!

  • And what is the health difference between Grass Feed and Corn Feed? Corn Feed is unnatural feeding for cattle - this changes composition so you are at a great health risk!

  • @soetebeer In a sense, yes. The change in composition causes the cows to get sick. Ranchers use antibiotics to fight down the infections, and thus creating drug resistant bacteria. Eating corn fed beef isn't a direct health risk, unless you were to eat red meats everyday.

  • @Claizen - I agree with most of what you've said. Eating red meat daily is not the issue - Corn feeding has made cancer epidemic since starting this practice. The same applies to Fluoride in our water system! Along with the GMO's in our foods. Along with many other factors to boot!

It goes to show what happens when government and agencies allow mad scientists to tamper with mother nature! And then comes the regulations on that to corner private farmers and they become state farmers.

  • Also, corn-fed cattle have to be slaughted before they have become completly mature, because otherwise they would die from the massive ulcers that being reared on a corn-fed diet gives them.

And of course, it's not a natural/healthy variety of corn to begin with.

I learned about this from the PBS documentary "King Corn".

  • @SinnFein4ever - I didn't see that. Have you watched "Food Inc." - it will disgust you. You can find parts of it here on YT.

  • @soetebeer

As a matter of fact, it's in my Netflix que, right now.

It's one of their "instant" ones, so I can watch it on my computer anytime that I like.

I haven't started watching it yet, though.

  • @SinnFein4ever - good! Be prepared you will get angered.

  • @soetebeer yes... and also that causes fat build up in there liver... ;-)

  • Great work, i always enjoy npr. Either on the radio or on youtube

  • @misticspear

NPR's having their pledge drive right now (it's been going on for a few days).

    Have you donated yet?

  • @SinnFein4ever it was actualy last month in my neck of the woods, yeah i did donate a bit

  • @misticspear
