If you have windows xp home edition it may have your pc easyly over heat after time. if you have windows xp pro you should be good windows xp ult and up you should be fine unless you have only a 100$ computer.

Then you set its text to "8000000"

We can see this by running the code below:

This won't do anything much. It will allocate a chunk of RAM and then release it like all those memory free-er utils out there, so it frees up some RAM but probably just pushes some other program into swap so you'll get a miniscule boost starting a new program and a slow down when you switch back to already running programs that were swapped out. In fact it just seems faster when starting a new program but you already wasted time running this script.

@mandai2 yeah you're right, I'm not a vbscript programmer, I just assumed it was allocating memory. So I tested it. I opened the task manager on the performance tab and some browser instances to use some memory, ran the script and voila, nothing except a tiny blip in cpu and memory usage. That was with some zeros added on so that if the value really was memory it would have errored trying to allocate too much. As for anyone who thinks "defragging" ram is useful, go learn something about OSs.

just a quick thing, You would have to restart your computer for this to take full affect, Also - Making a file on your desktop ram is a bad thing. You could evrheat the processer as your harddrive has to do two jobs.

how i understand it, this misinforms your system, making it think you have more ram ( Random Access Memory ( how much your computer can think about at one time ( computer juice ) ) ) . This makes it allocate more memory for each process, more memory is good (right?). But eventually it will allocate more memory than it has, so some programs won't have any ram for them ( bad ). So to a certain point this is good, but if you push your computer too much, well,  :(

The script runs, declares the variable then exits. It will not affect performance in any noticeable way.
