  • her voice is just so wonderful, i wish she was my mother and could talk me to sleep at night

  • INDIRA GANDHI

  • Good interview

  • Where was this held?

  • Canada had a female prime minister in the 80's tooooooo..... But she only lasted like 7 months... Yea

  • @AlexFoeShizzle Kim Campbell haha yeah I remember her

  • I always thought Golda Meir was 100 times more interesting than Maggie Thatcher.

  • I would have far, far more enjoyed a film about Elizabeth Kubler Ross for Pete's sake Now THERE is an interesting woman Maggie bores the socks off me sorry.

  • I love it when she said "Nudity is nothing. It's not really a provocation. Try to talk about leaving and dying..." Today, sex is splashed on the screen ceaselessly. It USED to be a provocation when writers and directors had enough common sense not to show it. It's to the point where now, in today's society, most audiences have accepted it. But, honestly, it really is nothing. Meryl doesn't compromise her convictions for greatness and that is why she is so magical on the screen and in real life.

  • australia has a female prime minister atm.. soo Maggie T isnt the only female PM to rule the western world...

  • @getagripUSA But Australia doesn't have nuclear power, and is in the Eastern hemisphere, two of the things Meryl prefaced her statement about Thatcher with. Also, she said first, and longest. :)

  • @starryxblue western world doesnt mean western hemisphere, it means white countries.. UK, USA, Canada, Australia and other european countries basically… nuclear power has nothing to do with the comment i made and is therefore irrelevant.. Yes she said first and longest but she also said ONLY. Which was a mistake. That is all I'm saying.

  • @getagripUSA In the Western hemisphere there has been more than one female PM, but Meryl's comment wasn't just narrowed to that. "The only female in the western world to rule a nuclear country" ...

  • @starryxblue Golda Meir was Prime Minister of Israel when it had nuclear weapons, several years before Thatcher.

  • Comment removed

  • @starryxblue Come to think about, dang. "The only nuclear armed nation" That's why she was such a harsh person. One tough lady.

  • @getagripUSA true okay fair enough

  • The guy who was interviewing was obviously highly embarassed by the fact that Meryl corrected him on that question...

  • Interviewer's dream.. One question, and then she talks for 10mins.. Very interesting.

  • And her son, by the way, is alive and well after being convicted by a South African court of attempting to organise an illegal coup d'etat in Equatorial Guinea. He served a suspended sentence. Meryl Streep is a wonderful actress but this film is a naively indulgent exercise.

  • @vygotsky17 a) The film doesnt suggest her main mark on history was as a feminist icon. b) She did not 'destroy' society. c) The Falkland people want to remain part of Great Britain, regardless of your thoughts on her motives for the war, the islands were 'invaded'. d) The war in Ireland was there before and after she was there, not because of her. e) She supported Pinochet againt the threat of global communism. f) Nelson Mandela committed acts of terror.

  • Also, she was one of Pinochet's strongest supporters and called Nelson Mandela a terrorist. This, I feel, warrants being remembered. Also, to refer to the prospect of not seeing her son Mark again (I think she is referring to the time he was lost in the desert) is insulting when ten Irish mothers would never see their sons after they died on hunger strike at her hands. For shame to portray her so sympathetically for now this is how she'll be remembered by those who didn't live through the 80s.

  • @vygotsky17 g) She did not make people go on hunger strike, nor could she give in to 'terrorists' i.e people who killed British citizens h) This film is not a sympathetic portayal (not a portrayal of the issues) it's about her reflections. i) People who did not live through the 80s should read about the issues of the time rather than 'remember' her from a film. j) Naively indulgent exercise? There are several documentaries, books etc about the issues, this is a film about the person.

  • The idea that Thatcher's main mark on history is her position as a feminist icon glosses over the real impact that she as a politician had in and outside her country and all the pain and hurt that she caused. She destroyed society in her own country, took her country to war in the Falklands just to win an election and intensified the war in Ireland. Remember, peace and justice only became a possibility in the north of Ireland after she was gone! She wanted a military victory instead of justice.

  • I can't believe that they gave this living goddess a plastic bottle of water! She deserves the best Waterford crystal...American vulgarians! :)

  • Meryl Streep has done Thatcher, now its time to do Hillary Clinton. She most certainly does look more like her than Thatcher!!! :D

  • There are actresses and actresses and there is KATE HEPBURN- winner of 4 OSCARS's LEADING ROLE, Meryl has just two- 1 supporting the other leading.

  • There is Meryl Streep and then there are the other actresses. Truly one of a king.

  • Meryl Streep would be so interesting to talk to in real life. She is so intelligent and I am fassinated , bought all her movies via amazon since in SA we were deprived of watcing them all.Looking forward to see Meryl bringing yet another potrait of an interesting person to us. I would not like to be called a storker but abig Fan and would really like to talk to her because she seems so full of energy and is inspiring to all woman, mothers and wives..maybe one day I might be privilaged to meet her.

  • Can we see the rest of this please? you do such a gooed job!

  • @LESERSKRING You can find all 3 parts at the Channel page, but I have also added them as responses to this video.

  • @LESERSKRING I worked as the producer on the soundtrack album for 'Sophie's Choice'. I met Meryl on two occasions during the promotion of the film. A nicer person there never was (or is). Meryl reigns supreme. J S Lasher.

  • @LESERSKRING I think that Meryl could turn even the most moderate and sane of us into stalkers, she's simply one of the classiest, most genuine, talented and thoroughly enchanting people alive today. I have unfathomable, infinite respect and admiration for her. It's always wonderful when those who possess immense talent turn out to be really likeable, decent and thoroughly adorable human beings. Meryl really is the complete package. I can't believe that the remarkable Kate Hepburn detested her.

  • Simply the best. I would love to meet her !
