  • woah.... i go to a special tech highschool with over 2 thousand people and special technology classes. The School is huge it looks like an airport. And when i look at your classroom im in awe

  • This is fascinating! I work as an ALT at the elementary school level and it"s very interesting to see how things are done at your school. Thanks for sharing! -Kurt :-)

  • were r u from and u look handsome with no hair :)

  • Nice looking classroom, with the monitors and all. I was a little surprised at the amount of student you have in one class...40! That even rivals some of my college classrooms in the lecture hall where we had 35. Thanks for sharing.

  • Awesome classroom! you are one lucky teacher :)

I wish my high school classrooms were like this.

  • Thank you!

But, it's not the classroom that makes me a lucky teacher, it's my great students. :)

  • Linked up to this video on our podcast page.

  • Thank you so much! :)

  • Wow your class is amazing! My high school is not high achieving at all. It is very hard to make my students focus long enough to give them directions. They are funny though. That's something. And they are motivated outside of class. I am amazed at the technology of your school. Very nice.

  • Thanks! I do feel lucky, but this is just my main school. The students at my other schools are anything but well behaved! I'll talk more about that in a later video.

    Thanks for watching. :)

  • As a uni teacher in Japan, I get to use this kind of equipment... but I've never seen a secondary school with such a nice set up. You're pretty lucky!

  • I do feel lucky! You wouldn't believe it, but one of my travel schools (a very low academic, technical school) has 3 of these rooms! Some even have computers for each student.

There are many things in Japan that bewilder me!

  • I had a day off from work that day. SUCKA!

    ..wait a second.

  • hahahahahahaha! :)

  • Very informative! I think this is the first video I've seen of a JET's classroom. I agree with Jason as well; it'd be nice to see at least some of your self introduction.

  • Thank you! I'll get something up about my intro vid as soon as possible :)

  • I've got to agree with myargonauts, your self-intro could be a great reference for a lot of people interested in JET -- my self included.

  • I've decided to put something up, you guys sure are convincing! :)

  • Wow, the classroom seems pretty high tech, even with the cassette players, at least compared to most of the American schools. All that netting and scaffolding and that white color kind of makes it seem like a prison... : /

  • I am lucky to have such a nice room!

It is very prison like. Even without the netting, it looks like a prison. Most schools here are ugly cement and rectangular shaped, just like a prison. I'd like to know why they aren't painted.

  • wow this class room is nice televisions and monitors on each desk and room is huge my high school classes were not this nice great video! hope to see more of it, are the oc classes strictly english? or other languages aswell?

  • thanks!

the oc classes here are only for english. perhaps at some private schools they may teach other languages, not sure though.

  • wow that classroom makes my university (where I take jap class) language lab look so crappy in comparison lol although we do have those fancy tape players too ;)

  • It wouldn't be the same without the tape players :)

I'm really surprised to hear that this classroom is better than one at the university level!

  • Do any of your schools have a White board? It's a very high-tech kinda screen that you can change or slide images by just touching it like i-phone monitor.

  • I've seen them, but never used them. Really cool technology though! The high school I attended has a few, even in really rural Colorado. I haven't heard of them being in Japan, perhaps at some universities...

  • I was telling myself yesterday after your Typhoon vid, "I bet we get to see his school in the next one." Low and behold....

That's the largest and most advanced classroom I've seen on YT so far, but behind all that technology the one thing I like the most are the dry erase boards. I do most of my math/japanese work at home on them and they're almost a necessity for me now heh

  • Wow, yeah, you called it!

Dry erase boards are amazing, such an improvement over chalk! I had a huge one in my apartment during university and I'm actually thinking about getting one now.

  • I noticed at around 1:15 that there was an American map behind you. Not to be rude, but why do they just show an American map? They may be a big country but they arent the only country that has English speakers!

  • Usually it's the map of the home country of the current ALT. Before me, the ALT had a Canada map up in the shared room, because she was from Canada. D is from America, so it makes sense.

I had a world map up for a while, with all the country names in English, which some of the kids found interesting.

  • You are quite right, but as Jason said, I am from America as was my predecessor. Not sure if you noticed, but there is also a world map and tons of info about New Zealand (from two ALTs ago). In fact, most of the info on the walls is from NZ.

  • Really liked this video as well. Gives a good insight on what to expect, the classrooms are of such higher quality than in England.

  • I'm glad you liked it. Not all classrooms here are like this though. Some teachers have to teach in homerooms with chalkboards and only a T.V. on a rolling cart to work with. I lucked out!

  • Nice tour :-) I will do one of my ghetto school

  • You should and leave it as a video response! :)

  • i would want to sit thorough the 20min vid..=P

  • me too. :)

  • I'll see what I can do :)

  • I'll work on something, maybe condense it to 10 min. :)

  • why does all japanese schools look exactly alike=P?

  • cool~

  • is it that bad?

  • ehh, what? who me? um...no, i never said it was bad....sorry, i'll put more thought behind my comments next time. wanted to say something, but didn't really have anything to say...

    :)

  • haha... sorry about that. no worries. all i had at first were negative comments so i automatically put yours into that category. that was definitely my mistake! :)

btw, we need to meet up and grab a beer sometime soon!

  • waiting for videos to process=not nice=(

  • sorry, not sure why it took so long... :(

  • Pretty cool, but the video quality is shit atm

  • Really? I just watched it and it seems fine, maybe it was still uploading? Sorry about that.

  • Yeah but the quality is loads better now. I just saw it too early hehe

  • If the info isn't too personal, it might be helpful for others to see. I'd watch it.

  • Okay, you're right. I'll show short clips of it. I'm a little worried about having the music I used on YT due to copyrights. Maybe if I just show short clips, it would be okay. What do you think?

  • upload a first 9min or so version (about 1/2 of the whole) as a private vid and see if any of the songs are blocked. If not, then make it a public vid. If they are, then choose clips. It's a pain, but that's what I do sometimes.

  • Okay, good idea. I'll work on it and send it to you to see what you think. You'll like the first song! :)
