  • What's wrong with people..? Who cares as to whether or not it's Japanese Style Animation. Anime is one of the best animation traditions to ever exist. What matters is that you're not only getting many flavours of Batman, but you're getting 6 varied stories. It's a great movie for a Batman fan.

  • Does this Batman have different suits for different situations.

1.The Flight Enabled Batman (Used for Deadshot)

    2. The Underground Batman (Used for Killer Croc)

    3. Bullet-Proof Batman (Used when there are lots of armed hostiles)

4.Fire-Proof Batman (Used for High temperature and fire situations)

  • the shitest batman move/anime ever

  • Would someone that is not a big fan of Japanese Animation like this movie?

  • @acledfloyd I do.

  • @acledfloyd You might, but it is very centered around Japanese style things and so if you're not a fan of anime you might not get much from it. But try it out anyway! :)

  • Batman Beyond also at 2:32 lol srry but I'm commenting while watching this XD Also I'm a very big Batman Beyond fan :)

  • 1:40 Batman Beyond in the top right corner :D

  • 2:49 Bruce Yagami

  • Where I can watch this?

  • You know, even though I understand the feelings of those who don't like the idea of a Batman anime, think about this...

The fact that this movie was even thought about shows that the Japanese know who Batman is and they like him.

Now think about this, how many Americans do you know who like anime and are aware of Japanese charcters such as Sailor Moon, Goku, and Ash (yes, Ash from the Pokemon anime).

I think it's good that the Japanese are aware of great American heroes. It's only fair :P

  • i thought this movie was boring compared to the others i have seen, i was falling asleep towards the end

  • Deadshot, Crossfire and In darkness Dwells, all three have the Comic animation, better than most Batman animation before. probs to the Japanese studios :)

  • I love this movie for taking the greatest Super Hero, who happens to be a man with no super powers, put him in the world of anime, and allowing 6 anime directors to take their take on The Dark Knight. I'd like to see them do another anime anthology film with Batman, or someone like even Superman or Green Lantern.

  • @Ironbat92 There's a movie called "green lantern Emerald Knight" which is somewhat of an anime anthology

  • @RoastyHat I know.

  • I think this movie would have been better without trying to wedge it into the Nolanverse. It seemed like it really limited what they could do.

  • Perhaps a little to much blood and gore for a kids film, but otherwise a nice new view on batman!

I watched this as an adult and i must say, it was great!

  • @johananas no its not a little at ALL theres wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to many kiddy batman shows this is what we teenagers and adults need a very HIGH detailed dark atomasphere of batman :)

  • Maybe a little to much blood for a kids film don't you think?

I watched this as an adult. Wow what great animation.. I want to see more! :)

  • Is the animation really this good in the actual anime, or is this like an oversaturated trailer?

  • This Batman movie I like, ANOTHER!!!

  • I absolutely loved this movie! My favorite DC character is Batman, and I've really gotten into anime lately, so this was perfect for me! I'm a huge fan of Studio 4C, so my favorite was the first short. :) I also really loved the last short with deadshot. Hope to see another of these movies soon!

  • I love it love it i say

  • I loved this!!!! But I wonder if they have it in japanese? If they do, I want to see it!

  • they should do spiderman anime

  • 3:23-3:58

wtf is that guy talking about?

  • awesome music

  • The animation was annoying, everyone looked like chubby hunchbacks

  • These short animations reminded me of the Batman Black and White comics, so creepy and thrilling!

  • I LOVE BATMAN

  • PICTURE ADRIEN BRODY AS THE RIDDLER. IM A VISIONARY! I KNOW THAT HE'D BE ABLE TO PULL IT OFF!

  • Amazing film. These people truly understand Batman as a character

  • 8:50 "if you look like that, you would be a villian too." but the guy who's talking (director?) does look pretty much like that...

  • Who gives a fck on who is animating it? The only thing matters is the storyline and the voice acting. As long as the story doesn't up something stupid as one of JLU episode where Grodd's evil master plan was to turn everyone into apes. See even Americans can create a shitty plot, so it doesn't matter what race as long as they have to commitment to make it good.

  • This was seriously Japanese?

  • @KnightWingHero fk u.

  • what about the other the joker? man joker!!!

  • lol at 7:32 why does killer croc look like that?

  • I hope they do another one of these marriages of The Batman and anime. So amazing to watch

  • cool

  • hmmm... let's see... i like the animation style, i've heard that the voice is that of Kevin Conroy, but i'm hoping that it won't be that over acted and out of character as many interpretations of Batman have been lately, most notably the frankly insane version of Frank millers DK2 and "the goddamn Batman"

am going to watch it soon... hope it won't dissapoint

  • I'm not caring for the art style, but that's an aesthetic preference. At least when they went for the anime styles, they went for the more interesting styles.

  • 2:52 Light Yagami? hahaha

  • @animelover1234 Who else could have outsmarted the legendary L?

  • I have the dvd and I too enjoyed it!

  • What I don't get is if it's between BB and TDK, why does scarecrow look different.

Batman Begins- Oooh I'll wear this

Gotham Knight- forget that suit this one looks cooler

The Dark Knight- Bah! that suit itches I'll stick to the old one!

  • @joeyjoell that and also in begins the mansion is burned down. in gotham knight bruce is doing push ups in it and then its back to being burned down

  • i have no idea why everyone is fighting about. but they all need to calm down!

i found this movie entertaining, and each of the japanese animation styles were beautiful and dark, very fitting for the Batman! i give it a A+!

  • @JournaloftheWiccan

I think it was basically the change to using anime and CGI. Those can be done well and some of the movie looks fantastic with it, but I think when we heard Conroy, Timm and the gang were returning we expected a handrawn one like TAS. Plus most of the shorts were just kinda average (not including In Darkness Dwells and Deadshot those were absolutely awesome). It's a good movie, but I think it may have looked better if done like Mask of the Phantasm or Return of the Joker.

  • cool

  • i saw the movie it was great, so dark and greedy i love batman!

  • I loved the new looks in the movie and I enjoyed the voice acting (I think they were the same from the animated series?) however, since the movie was divided up into six short-flims I felt that I wasn't given enough of Batman or of each stories. Overall, this movie was entertaining (obviously, made for fans who know a bit about Batman) and the lack of detail in the plot was made up in the large amount of detail in the art.

    BATMAN FOR LIFE <3

  • I love this movie so much! Watch the full movie now!

    MovieAndTvOnline.c o m/

Its quick and easy and requires no effort at all.

  • lulz. I love spambots.

Already commenting before the movie is even finished.

  • tho it does require effort to GO FUCK YOURSELF!!

  • yea..cuz chronologically , gotham Knight takes place between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

  • Ah, but I like it though! Big O was actually more popular in America than in Japan, so that might have worked, but I think they wanted to go with more well-known directors.

  • Ironic fact, People have compared Big O to Batman. Look at big O, you see the similarity. In my opinion, I think Roger Smith should have been voiced by Kevin Conroy. It would have made sense and it would have been a good fanservice.

  • the batman blood now hbo :) morbid

  • If they ever make a Batman anime TV show, it shouldn't be just another TAS rehash where new villains pop up every week just to get beaten within one or two episodes. In true anime fashion, it should have story arcs that last up to 30 episodes for every season.

  • The TAS formula worked though. Cowboy Bebop had a different story for each episode and it's one of my favourite animes.

  • Yeah they should make a batman anime Tv show!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @jp3813, I agree. I mean it worked for DBZ and YuGiOh xD

  • Wow... Batman's cute in this movie 0.0 -_- 0.0

I am totally getting it when I can... O___O

  • The movie is not really a movie, its 4 episodes/shorts combined into one DVD movie, in all 4 different movies there is a different animation style for each. But it is good and I would suggest you get it.

  • Yeah I figured that out on my own once I looked it up :3

  • They should've made a show like this!

Instead of Brave and the Bold, at first when that show was coming out I honestly thought it was going to be a remake of the animated series! Brave and the Bold is shit!

  • Gotham Knight is the PERFECT bridge between American Storytelling and Japanese Animation. It's a pleasure to watch, nothing short of enthralling! I loved every second, and hope this isn't the last we see!

  • Yeah but 1 thing putting me off is Gotham Knight based on the new live movies or is it based more on the old comics. I didn't really like Batman Begins cos I thought the main guy who played Batman wasn't good enough if that makes any sense lol. So is this the same batman in the live movies or is it a better one?? :-P

  • @Beef354 I hope not, BATMAN: The ANIME Series

  • Comment removed

  • i think he could be batman still without the oney... i mean he wouldnt have the cool gadgets and things but he is still a mastermind and a great ahletic and perfect fighter he would find some other way to be the crime fighter

  • @lonefaith its you tube every ones a d*** hole

  • look at you you attack your own country, do you think if your were japaneses you would have attack japan to? xD

  • Yes! When I first saw the trailers for Gotham Knight I almost screamed! >:3

I have been a Batman fan ever since I could remember; as well as an Anime fan. I loved the animated Batman because the character really gripped you, like most good Animes it had great story structure and characters. This was (In my opinion) one of the best ideas for Batman. To broading the horizon for other audiences as well as create something with a good blend of two styles of storytelling ^_^

  • The character of the Batman transcends not only the animation or storytelling style but race, language, and culture. That in itself, is an amazing feat.

  • Um, Japanese heroes aren't realistic? Okay, REALITY CHECK! Superheroes AREN'T real (Although I wish they were). Samurais, shinobis, ARE real.

  • i love the animatrix. is this film similar? i wonder if i would like this too. i don't know anyone that's seen it.

  • The films are quite the same, except ones different because its the matrix, the others batman

  • damn its a shame how some of you people are so stuck on batman being American that you see pass the animation and innovation. I think that the minie movies were all good and interesting. It was a good change seeing batman anime style. Oh and lets not bring any racism here, everybody is equal so dont feel inferior and feel like you have to put asians down. The original style cartoon of batman was good, and still is, but new animations are always welcome specially if they're this good.

  • @MakoXIII Are you fuckin kidding me it was fuckin badass anyone who bitches about this dont realize that Kevin Conroy fuckin voices him here too the anime style made it darker which is how Batmans world should be AAAHHHH I hate it when people don't expand their horizions or whatever the hell it's called just cause it's anime style.

  • @MakoXIII way to put those racist capitalist ignorant scum bags into place!

  • WoW! Good movie

  • Criticism is fine, and everybody is entitled to their opinions, especially when it comes to art. Some people don't like surrealism, but like impressionism. Now that's all fine and good, but when you throw racism into criticism, that just makes you seem lacking of good education, which is just sad in this day and age.

  • This was amazing.

  • are u trolling or do you have problems with your eyes, if you don't think the character styling as well as the environmental landscaping are to say the least decent then you clearly are unable to appreciate good art

please don't reply cos ur reply is gonna be typically stupid using 'fuck' every other word

  • the fuck? fucking fucker go fucking kill your self you fucking fuckaroo fuckface

  • ...inspired, was eleven months ago that means you searched through the comments and commented...sad times

  • both of you shut up

  • I hate when people start drooling for samurais. For much they were just lazy aristocrats. They created judo and other martial arts to stay fit for battle when there were no wars in the Edo period and Bushido to explain battle traditions to new generations. They were state subsided elite who controled rice production and abused merchants who they see as scum

  • stupid fucks, can't see beyond the "american hero", this was amazing!!! by any standards. it's a shame your stupid pride can't let you enjoy such great animation.

  • batman is like a japanesse super hero??? what a BULLSHIT xD

  • i remember i started watching this movie on cable, and i was completely blown away by it its so good, but all the time i was like this cant be american, USA is to busy doing childish digital movies 2D is dead in america, until i saw that in the credits this movie is pure JAPAN, it was only written and produced by americans but all the beautiful art and animation is jpanese, oh and some koreans too.

  • That's what is acutally great. Japanese animator have great art, maybe the best in the domain for now. Mix that with classic batman storyline and you have a great piece of art ! I really enjoyed the 6 short movies from the dvd =) excellent work. Never seen something likewise since animatrix

  • Watch this movie and 25,000 more at goodmovies(DOT)tk

  • i like the batman suit where u can see his eyes and his mask is all smooth looking

  • this movie was super cool :D

i sure hope they make another :3

  • i dun know if i really like the anime idea..:(

i mean i´ve been watching both anime and all the superhero series but to put it together.... i´m just not so sure...we´ll see

  • i cant believe that they r going to have robin in the next batman hee sux ass

  • "Gotham Knight" just cofirms that japanese anime is being adapted by american traditional animators. perhaps in time it may reach our digital animation studios, but who knows.

  • I love "Working Through Pain".

  • All the episodes were good, and the overall thing was better than I'd expected, but my fave episode was Deadshot.

  • Child of Dreams is awesome, one of the best!

  • The scene of the armor is done by the art team of "Death Note" (I think), cooooool art.

Anime art is better than current American cartoons art, well done Bruce Timm

  • I liked Crossfire the best as well. The batman looked so cool in that one. best version of batman out of the 6 stories.

  • I won't lie; these all look WAY more like anime than traditional animated series based on comic books. And I love every bit of it!

Seriously, the art style reminds me of... which anime was it... ah, that's it, Ghost in the Shell. It's more like that art than any American style I've ever seen.

  • I actually liked the CROSSFIRE episode the best.

  • I think the Gotham Knight was missing...The Joker! ^_^ You can't have a Batman flick without The Joker.

  • yea seriously whats up with that

  • gotham knight takes place after batman begins and before the dark knight - not exactly a good reason since at the end of batman begins, we all know that little implication - but at the same time, the animators probably didnt know exactly how ledger was gonna do joker, and it'd be odd for a movie meant to be a continuity of others to go and do something different like that

  • Stupid. The Gotham Knight plays between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

  • not really stupid if you run a animated movie it would get all the unbelieveable characters out the way like poison ivy who could supposibly control plants and make it look good if you saw that on a real batman film it would turn you away from it and that would put the film in the batman and robin film pile

  • Not what i meant, but meh.

  • wot did u mean?

  • yamibakura21 said that Gotham Knight was missing the Joker, i thought that this comment is stupid since Gotham Knight plays between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, so no Joker.

  • ohh him he's just one of those fans that likes movies as long as it has its most popular character in it like the new silent hill game pyramid didnt really have a point being there and they ruined him by calling him the bogeyman i mean harpeitior of death would of still been bad but least it was better then bogeyman

  • Then they DEfINITELY should make more. ;)

  • Whens It Out?

  • It's already out, lol.

    And it's AWESOME.

  • im watching this 2nite. cnt wait :)

  • I liked the first one, where the 4 kids had different impressions of Batman, when he actually appears and the kid gets to see who he really is.

  • Thanks for posting!

  • I watched the movie. And I didn't like it.

  • The exaggerated features and over the top animation is a big part of what makes japanese anime attractive to audiences. It's not the "best" form of animation, if one can even quantity such a thing, but it has some obvious strengths and its nice to see a new spin on batman. I loved the 1992 Batman:TAS and I also happen to like Batman Beyond. I can enjoy different ways of telling the Batman story. :)

  • They hit the nail right on the head. Anime/manga is over the top. And that is why I love it so much. In the world of anime/manga, there are no holds barred.

  • I love Batman and can't wait to get this DVD. I enjoy Bruce Timm and the crew from Batman The Animated Series in 1992.

  • my peronal favorite story is the one where he uses the bullet deflector thing, he was young and since im a teenager i like that, he is a younger person unlike other adaptions of batman they protray him as late 20s early 30s and i cant really relate to that. this was a very good idea for the animation for batman this wasnt like the 90s cartoon verson this was a dark person in this movie.so wut im trying to say this movie was good but at the same time the different storys really didnt work togther

  • i kinda agree but i like the idea of different stories put together i just don't like the different versions of batman. i liked the second story batman, looked better.

  • I really liked the one when he went to India to find away to get block out physical pain. I thought it was a really good concept for batman and how it would be cool to actually learn how to get rid of pain.

  • I thought it was interesting, but not in the way you mention. The mentor seemed to realize that Bruce's pain is what pushes him forward as opposed to what he wanted to learn, which was to block out the pain altogether.

  • I enjoyed watching 'Batman: Gotham Knight' mainly because the best Batman of all; Kevin Conroy was playing Batman's voice again. Favorite stories: 'In Darkness Dwells,' 'Deadshot,' 'Crossfire' and 'Field Test.' 'Working Through Pain' is ok but a little gory. The worst story is 'Have I Got a Story For You.' In order of the stories in the movie: 'Have I Got a Story For You,' 'Crossfire,' 'Field Test,' 'In Darkness Dwells,' 'Working Through Pain' and 'Deadshot.'

  • I actually liked Gotham Knight. It was refreshing to see different takes on the Batman scene. Like Ashogo says, the stories didn't quite tie in together, but,my take on it was" does life really tie itself together from random day to random day? " Anyway, it's a nice little side-attraction to the main Batman project.

  • And furthermore, pixar and other computer anime companies really didn't happen until japan/japanime started using it and kept(and still is)pushing the envelope(final fantasy: the spirits within, final fantasy 7:advent children, kill bill(yes it was a novel, then an anime before it ever became a movie)even beowulf and the scanner darkley) American animation is trying to keep up with the japanese animation and in many ways the eastern cultures. If ya don't believe me then by all means, look it up.

  • Me personally, i will always think that japanime is and will continue to be the dominate brand of animation anywhere. American animation mostly targets children and barely steps into teenage to adult viewers. That plus remember ppl, manga started it all during feudal japan(written on what i believe was rice paper). Plus, american animation only evolved after finally seeing what akira(practically the granddaddy of them all)brought to the table.

  • I think the related 'western' mediums mostly targeting children was a result of the CCA and their war against comics back in the mid 50's.

  • That's the part that I don't get. Is that why is America not taking a page from Japan and give their own cartoons more substance in terms of story and character? BatmanTAS and Disney's Gargoyles are prime examples of American cartoons that are anything but whitewashed, and have a depth that can rival that of anime shows, yet I see very little of that from US studios. Why don't they do more shows like those I mentioned? What is america afraid of? FCC regulations?

  • yeah man thats so true, even Korean are killing USA, yeah USA got cool animation movies like Ratatouile, but they dont have have amazing stories that blow people away. i think its because stuff like that dont sell that much, america since the begining only saw cartoons to be something for little kids, they only think about money, if u ask me

  • Seen it thru the DVD release and though neither of the 12-minute episodes comes even close to the brilliance of BTAS, at least it is still far better than an entire season of the crappy kiddie show, The Batman.

  • The Anime sections were alrigh but not my favourite. The animation in "Darkness Dwells" was probably my favourite

  • anime is awsome

  • I saw it, it was awesome!

  • Fuck all you anime haters out there who think American animation is better simply because its American. American animation focuses more on the story than the animation, while Anime focuses on the style of the characters and exagerated emotional highlights. Its true, some Anime storys and movies are inconsistent. But look at the style of it. Genius in its purest form. Cowboy Bebop for example. Pure genius!!!!

  • I'd like to say that I said Western animation, and not American animation. Also, I gave reasons why I think Western animation is often better than Japanimation. I have no preference for something simply based on where it's from (I live in Northeast Asia, too, by the way). I find the exaggeration of expressions to be over the top, and not in a good way. I think it's done because the animators lack ability to do it subtly, and the stories are unable to blend the conflict with the animation.

  • I disagree that anime artists lack ability to convey emotions subtly. I do agree with you that the over exaggeration used in many anime is too over the top for some people, including me, but there are many skilled mangaka out there who make deep anime without those annoying visual quirks. A couple examples I can think of are the miyazaki films and things like naoki urasawa's "monster".

Too many people judge anime by just the mainstream young-teen oriented stuff coming out.

  • Yes, you're right. The mainstream is typically what people use to determine opinion.

You're also right in that I shouldn't say that what I believe about anime is true for all anime artists.

I think what we all need to do in this discussion is agree to disagree.

  • My apologies TampaRed. This wasn't directed toward you, but to some of the earlier ignorant comments made by someone else. Agian I apologize.

  • No worries.

  • Scarecrow and Killer Croc were so underused. The story about the fakir was interesting because we were shown one of the places Bruce went to while he was training himself (but there female fakirs in India?) The Deadshot story... I'm still a bit conflicted.

    Inconsistent

  • They explained the female Fakir in the movie. When She was young, she disguised herself as a boy to be able to study with the Fakirs, The Fakirs see through her deception, but allowed her to receive the training to see her fail. When She didn't, the Fakirs grew tired and cast her out, revealing that she is a girl and called her a witch.

  • Western animation back in the 80s was great. Movement of the characters in shows like Masters of the Universe or ThunderCats was excellent.

I think the anime style used in Gotham Knight is great, but other Japanimation is down right terrible. Moe style, shonen, etc., are barely watchable. Characters with eyes that take up 3/4 of their faces, the liberal use of purple hair, etc., are visual effects that try too hard to tap into fantasy that stylistic drawing and good storytelling should do.

  • FINALLY someone who knows.

  • Gotham Knight was really disapointing

  • What didn't you like?

  • The dvd was promoted as a bridge between Batman Begins and its impending sequel. The stories had nothing to do with the movies. The stories were said to tie into each other, they did not. The stories did no follow the lore as it should have. generally disappointed when compared to some of its predecessors in the animation field. doesn't The movie didn't live up to any standard I had set for it. On their own, the shorts aren't very memorable. Together the stories are confusing, follow no trend.

  • Uhm have have you even taken a look at most modern American cartoons?. American animation was good back in the day, back when the shows didn't look like they've been done in adobe flash.

  • That's what I meant. Sorry, I should have specified. Plus- the U.S. doesn't really make action cartoons anymore.
