I'm failing to see how Savate is any different from kickboxing....except they wear shoes. The reason that guy tied a French champion even though he only trained in it for a week, is because he has trained enough MMA/kickboxing/muay thai that he knows how to fight. Regardless of how anyone thinks of how "unique" savate is, the French champion barely tied him.
I prefer Fight Quest's format of a solid week of training to Human Weapon's focus on random techniques, but Jason and Bill are a better duo than Doug and Jimmy by a mile.

I think a different co-host with Bill Duff would have worked, especially if a stronger voice had been given to the practitioners and less of a voice to the hosts. Also, moving it to PBS would have done wonders too! This episode is a favourite of mine as I study Savate.

the Street version of Savate is more useful in real life situations, but when you see it in a competitive sport version it looks like the french version of TKD.

I've seen Savateurs beat the crap out of Muay Thai practitioners so tell me again how this one cannot win against someone who practices a version of Gong Fu, which is it's true name? Gong Fu has way more rules than Savate as does Aikido. The simplicity of Savate is what makes it deadly. Same with Krav Maga.
@IPIay I have been in war twice while in the navy fighting on land and during OEF and OIF/OBD & I've trained in savate for over 10 years, this style is street and war tested.
Imagine if they got every "Human Weapon" from every episode, and told them to all duke it out with each other. Who would win? Thumbs up to get this to the top.
@Bisby219 I'd love to see it. It would be like the excitement of the first 5 UFC's, before everyone became a "mixed martial artist". It used to be, my style is better than your style. Watching MMA now is kind of like watching NASCAR. Rules, regulations, everyone makes a left hand turn for three hours, until someone makes a mistake, and loses. I loved the days of Judo vs. Kickboxing, Karate vs. Sambo, etc.

What my point is, is that almost every fighter in MMA (UFC) is trained in Muay Thai, and Jujitsu. Ergo, the guy that wins is just a little faster, or a little stronger on that day. I guess I just miss the days of seeing a true Judoka beat a world class kickboxer, like Pardouel vs. Weit, or Savate vs. Sumo, Gordeau vs. Tuli.

I've seen Savateurs beat the crap out of Muay Thai practitioners so tell me again how this one cannot win against someone who practices a version of Gong Fu, which is it's true name? Gong Fu has way more rules than Savate as does Aikido. The simplicity of Savate is what makes it deadly. Same with Krav Maga.

@Bisby219 I'd love to see it. It would be like the excitement of the first 5 UFC's, before everyone became a "mixed martial artist". It used to be, my style is better than your style. Watching MMA now is kind of like watching NASCAR. Rules, regulations, everyone makes a left hand turn for three hours, until someone makes a mistake, and loses. I loved the days of Judo vs. Kickboxing, Karate vs. Sambo, etc.

What my point is, is that almost every fighter in MMA (UFC) is trained in Muay Thai, and Jujitsu. Ergo, the guy that wins is just a little faster, or a little stronger on that day. I guess I just miss the days of seeing a true Judoka beat a world class kickboxer, like Pardouel vs. Weit, or Savate vs. Sumo, Gordeau vs. Tuli.

@wrobinson7 yeah i still watch those old UFC tournaments. its just so crazy to see and especially when big ol guys are getting their ass beat like the Sumo guy lol. but thanks to Royce Gracie the whole world realizes that u need to be versed in multiple arts. imagine if there was a guy like Jones or Silva back then. they would be tearing through guys in 2 seconds lol. now competition is so high it does get a little boring like a stalemate, but thats mainly due to both guys being very skilled

Heck, back then, some of them didn't even look like they knew what they were doing. Tank Abbott was nothin' but a big,mean, psycho bully. It didn't take long for the sport to evolve past him.
