I'm in the Mood for Love, so I dedicate this beautiful song to that one person that Is trully & worthy of my love........Thanks "Little Rascals" my little angels.
I grew up watching the Rascals.Unfortunately from what I've heard, they will not be in syndication ever again. This is because of Bill Cosby buying the rights to all the Rascals episodes and discontinuing any airing. The reason , Ive heard, was because of what he called rascist content and stereotyping of African Americans. I hope this is hearsay. This was classic innocent comedy that was enjoyed by many generations.
@Jerryrocky1 You heard incorrectly. Bill Cosby doesn't own any of the rights to the Little Rascals/Our Gang comedies and never has. All of them are available on DVD.
LoL. This was why I loved the Rascals. The Microphone starts drooping down, and Poor Alfalfa is kinda going WTF and following it down LMAO When I was a kid, these's Little Rascals got me into black and white comedy shows, like abbott and Costello, and the Three Stooges.
I have never ever been able to listen to this song without remembering Alfalfa's little reedy voice reaching for those hiiiiiiiigh notes! Unforgetable, (no matter how hard I may try!).
ezdavillan, your comment should be eliminated from here..noone deserves to be shot to death! Alfie wasn't an a-hole, his family and best friend says so...ha!
Wow. This brings back a ton of memories...I was a FANATIC for "The Little Rascals" when I was four and five years old, I couldn't stop watching the series, and I wore out my VHS tapes, LOL! I remember this scene very clearly!
Priceless- all these kids had talent- esp. Alfalfa- were they exploited? I sincerely hope not because they've given me a lot of laughs and fun over the years.
Rest in Peace all of them. And thanks for the memories.
@gillmore718 It seems strange, and I'm not one to believe in jinxes or curses, but it seems that a disproportionate number of "Our Gang or "Rascals" kids led impoverished lives or met with some gruesome or premature death.
He was bipolar this guy Alfalfa. When he got older he would fly off the handle at the drop of a hat, get insanely vicious like Mel Gibson (who is also bipolar) and it eventually got him killed. Something over gambling, and he flipped out and some dude shot him.
wtf? get ur facts straight! that's not how it happened..
-------
Carl Switzer is my fav actor! He was so talented! I especially loved the movies he starred in as an adult<3! too bad he died at the age of 31..he left out on having a long and successful carreer.
No matter what anyone else may say about him, I honestly think Carl Switzer was a great crooner who had a great voice!! Alfalfa was by far the most talented child actor of all time, nobody else can come close or even compare to his magnificent and wonderful talent!! It grieves me that he only lived to be 31 years old, he could have had a terrific future had he lived. I miss you Carl/"Alfalfa", and forever will!!
Ever since I first saw this as a kid when they used to rerun the Little Rascals on TV and heard this song No Matter who sings it I will always think of Alfalfa.!
I don't think Carl (Alfalfa) Switzer was a comic genius, or any other kind of genius for that matter. According to the books on Our Gang (aka The Little Rascals), when he sang, he was deadly serious -- he thought he was great. That pause was the idea of the writer, the director, or the band leader, but certainly not from the mind of Alfalfa.
Also according to those books, he was not a nice kid (to put it mildly) who made things miserable for the directors and his fellow cast members.
@spelvin214 Carl was "not a nice kid" and even as an adult was a mean drunk who tended to settle matters with his fists. However, he's not the 1st entertainer who wasn't as nice off screen as they appear on screen.
@spelvin214 I disagree about his singing. He + his brother Harold were famous in their hometown, singing and playing numerous instruments. When his family took a trip to Calif, Roach heard them singing at his studio's commissary cafeteria and signed both for his Our Gang series. It was then that Carl became known for his off- key singing. I doubt that Roach would have hired 2 kids who couldn't sing. If Carl was "deadly serious' about his singing only shows that he took his craft seriously.
@spelvin214 As far as whose idea the pause was, we will never know. I doubt that Marvin Hatley the orchestra director gave the cast comic direction. In those early days of film, I always thought the director was more of a technician setting up shots and being sure that the story got told. I can't imagine the director, Fred Newmeyer micro-managing to the extent of telling a singer where to take a pause. But again we will never really know.
@yoyoofloco... According to Stiltz'z stepson's account, "It was more like murder than self defense." Switzer had an unopened pen knife on his person when Stiltz shot him.
Damn! Sooo funny! My grandfather loved this show...he was born in 1910(he's gone now) I think it reminded him of the 'old day's' he worked in Detroit in 1928(illegally) selling shoe's...sometime's I wish I had been 18 in 1928.....
