  • Actually, Steeleye Span call it `A Rosebud in June ` it is on the `Below the Salt` Album.

  • project

  • I think it's sad that people only seem to know about Holst's suite of The Planets, there are a great many pieces he has composed, such as this hidden gem.

  • My home county so I know the music.. its like my home county , full of quiet places and wandering hills with measured tranquility, the birthplace of peace.

  • It was a pleasure and a privledge to be able to perform this piece. Nobody did it quite like Holst.

  • 5:19 from then on is my favourite part.... FINALLY A FAST AND EXCITING PART XD XD XD

  • Reminds me of the English folk song suites...

  • @stabteam listen to Steeleye Span, a song called the Sheep Sheaers

I think it is on their Sail of Silver album -th is is it...

  • Performing this tomorrow... 'tis absolutely beautiful! :)

  • Its on the orchestral excerpts list for oboe in most of the music colleges, and also in the evelyn rothwell oboe orchestral book volume 3, its a famous oboe solo, btw it wasnt my teacher playing

  • What year was this recorded?

My Teacher Val Taylor was principal oboist in the BBC Scottish, just wondering if this was her playing the Oboe

    cheers

  • @mikeycraigsluman 25 april 1996, conductor is David Lloyd-jones, Royal scottish symphony orchestra. i ve just looked album picture. Also i m little surprised that intereset on this work. it seems this work is used for students so the students searched the music and it is the most viewed video of mine. What do you think about it ?

  • We played the symphonic band version of this. :] Great piece!

  • Although, listening to it again, I must say, I prefer the beginning and end slower and the whole mild considerably faster. :]

  • @Otherworldly101 i coudn t imagine that would it be better with slower ? but i think this record give me holst feeling nicely, maybe i should listen another record, but there is no another record on web, thanks for your comments

  • @13Orcun I just don't think these tempi give the piece justice. This work has a considerable amount of contrast in all respects, and I believe that contrasting the tempi to an extreme between slow and haunting, and fast and exciting just gives this piece an extra little spark. :]
