Even ignoring the recommended order, I usually beat Web Spider first in order to get the Leg Parts. However, Slash Beast looks much easier without the Ground Chaser than I thought he would, so maybe I'll try this route next time.
The idea is taking on Slash Beast first so you only have to go back to one stage to get every item. Going to web spider then doing the recommended order, you'll have to return to at least Web Spiders and Magma Dragoons stages to get everything. This way, I'll only have to go back to Web Spider.
Keep in mind, that Slash Beast has this grab thing that if he touches you, you are stuck in it till he slams you against the wall. It's painful.
