This is not the early 2011 MacBook Pro ! I have got the real early 2011 MacBook Pro but my keyboard is not like this one cause the shift key is larger than mine ! Check it on the net and you will see that the Shift key of the early 2011 MacBook Pro is not so long, it's short and small. Am i wrong ? if you noticed it thumbs up !

Hey, I'm buying a MacBook Pro for when I go back to uni in a couple weeks. I got about £1000 to spend. Do you think I should get the base model 2011 13" (costs about £850) or get a 2009/2010 15" refurb?

I'm not sure how I feel downsizing to a 13" as I've been using 15"+ for many years.

@anil2 Neither. Get a 2010 13". Portable for school, faster with gaming. I have Windows for gaming. Gears of War, Black Ops, and Company of Heroes run maxed out 20-30 FPS. 2011 model uses Sandy Bridge design where the graphics processor is integrated into the main processor. Intension was to improve graphics performance and reduce power consumption, but the 320m on 2010 models is slightly faster with 3D gaming. Besides, Intel GPU's have always sucked. I doubt they've gotten much better.

@bimbo0293 get a low end 15" MBP (and buy it from Apple's refurbished section to shave off $250 =P) And if you really need windows, which you might not, you can always buy a copy of windows 7 and put it on boot camp with a 100 gb partition

Go to a community college than transfer to a real University. You'll save thousands of dollars. Besides employers look at Devry Degrees as jokes. I worked my but off now I'm going to get my degree from California State University, Long Beach. For Profit schools like Devry are criminal go to a real University if you want to learn.

I'm able to get a high-end, Mid-2009, 13" MacBook Pro for $600. Everything seems fine except the battery life is a bit down, but only 125 cycles. I won't be doing anything fancy. My question is: Do you think that it's worth $600 or should I just buy the Early-2011, low-end, 13" MacBook Pro to "future proof" myself? Or instead, buy the $600, then upgrade in a year or two?

@mikelatorous to be honest, I have a powerbook G4 and I'm only just having to upgrade. Macs last for ages. Of course I could only upgrade to Leopard on my Powerbook seeing as you need an Intel chip for snow leopard (and now lion) which is something it didn't have. I don't see myself having to buy a new mac for at least 5 years, minimum, more if i'm careful and if they don't bring something revolutionary out anytime soon.

I did have to replace the battery on the powerbook a few years back, 200€.

@Freshbott2 Hi Fresh. I was coming from the 13" Core2 2.53, and was having a hard time deciding wether to go i7 13", or i7 15". After hearing all the comments on the 15" overheat issues, I'm kind of glad I went with the i7 13". One thing I miss though are the 250 and 320 HDs from Hitachi in the older models. Those things were 95% silent. The Tosh 500 in my i7 13" makes a slight whirring sound in a silent room.

Would you recommend this (upgraded to the 128gb SSD) or the macbook air (upgraded to 4gb of RAM). I don't have any other macs, but do have a very nice windows desktop. The extra 64gb of space does not make a huge difference to me since I can back everything up to an external HDD, I just like the SSD for speed purposes. I will mostly be taking notes and stuff on it with maybe some light gaming/video playback, and photoshop work.

@AwesomeTeeVee If the base-line MacBook Pro is faster, then buy it instead of the iMac. The new 13" Pro is great in gaming and video editing. Not perfect, but it will serve you very well. REMEMBER: the screen is MUCH smaller with LESS pixels. (iMac:1920x1080 vs MBP 13":1280x800)
