  • Your timing belt is too tight or too loose. Drove around for 3 years with this whine in my b16a. Undo t belt tensioner as per workshop manual and turn crank anti clockwise 3 teeth then retighten tensioner to factory specs, hope it helps !

  • It's the pully baring I promise you I had the same problem with my 96 civic ex just gotta find the right one and you can easily do it yourself

  • @bigfrankhu2l. Ya I know, it was coolant temp sensor, threw the ecu into a loop with no vtec and made it run like garbage! I got a new motor now! Runs like a champ!

  • lol nothing is wrong cuz my b16 never had that noise since i took the side plastic to cover the cams yea i took it off and it sound it the same as mine or maybe the timenbelt is tuching the plastic when u rev the bealt should shake alil bit so thats why it dose that dont worry its nothing

  • Was the timing belt recently replaced? Maybe over tightning of the belt tensioner could cause that to whining noise. Sounds like an oil pump or when you power steering fluid is low type of noise. When you rev the engine it sounds louder like a supercharger. Maybe could be a very bad new aftermarket belt tensioner. Funny thing,...just replaced mine with GATES timing belt,..sounds similar too. Anyone have a good answer or diagnoses for this?

  • @panoz360 I think it was most likely the oil pump cause there was no power stering, did a motor swap! Brand new b16a. Runs like a dream! Love vtec. Wooooooooo

  • @SlickC18 Do you guys get the RECYCLER classifieds out in your area? If so, there are a lot of import engine places...comes with decent warranties regarding their motors. Hasport is another company...they sell engine mounts ie. if your going with a B16 or B20 (frankenstein motor). Hope that'll help...pEACE

  • very nice! to bad you dont have ac though, air conditioning isn't a must in a del sol though mine stays cool.

  • could be water pump or timing belt being loose or the timing belt tensinor. jus take the alternator belt off and if it still makes the noise then its not the alternator

  • My b18c integra engine makes exactly the same noise, has yours got any worse since you posted this vid mate. Mine only started doing it after i found it was running very low on oil.

  • No, the sound has'nt gotten worse. bt i have a feeling its the alternator bearing.

    i have to replace it anyway so i hope that fixes it. good luck m8

  • yeah its a popular motor, in my city there is one for sale that i know of, but he's only selling locally. look on ebay, there are sites that have those motors.

  • well last question....do you think it would be worth putting money into my SOHC? like getting racing headers exhaust turbo etc. or should i just save for a DOHC?

  • in my opinion, dont waste your money on sohc. and if you are going to turbo, i've been tole b18b is the motor to choose cause of the lower compression. or if you want you could go with H22a (my buddy's got a eg hatch with h22) its fast (v8 killa) all in all i theink dohc is best for anything! good luck

  • hey...im new to the cars and stuff....but can all honda del sol V-tec engines have a racing headers attached to it? the si model 1.6L....cuz where the headers would go theres like a big metal blocker thing....

  • well theres two diff types of 1.6l theres the SOHC and DOHC. and headers from the two are not interchangable, my moter is B series, as for the short intake it was on there when i bought the car. i have a diff intake now.

  • haha the funny thing is that my del sol came with that short intake too...idk if its esxact same brand but yeah im looking to get a new 1

  • my ecu is from vti 92-95 with program that I had in b18c 220hp to few days I go for new program because now I am 1600 bye bye 1800.thanks men good luck with your honda.VTEC POWER

  • ok about alternator men but mine they is new. all swap made about me and my friend without again I have made something same the car the car they was b18ctyper and took water from AEMv2 and broke. also reason of money I replaced my swap with b16a block sorry about my English they isn't so good and I didn't understand for the error 6.when lights on 6 it doesn't also work vtec? what precisely it made?

  • well i think the noise is the alternator, cause my lights and stuff are dim at idol and bright when higher rpm. as for the codes, i fixed my code 6 and it runs way better. the ecu goes into a loop and shuts down vtec and runs shitty when CEL. (for my ecu anyway) good luck with your swap man! John

  • alright i had the same problem the alt belt was to tight. also make sure the belt has the same amount of grooves as the pully on the alt belt.

  • Have checked if that  ECU has an error? if not u need to check.. if o need help to verify i can help and give u the code of error..

  • it gives a code 6, which is collant temp sensor, but i dont know what that would have to do with the noise though

    but fix the problems and then after check the noise .. in my del sol I'm having some problems too ABS dont working..and error number 7..

    Today I made a video of abs u can see in my channel..on Monday I have time and i will see what happens with the abs and repair the Throttle Position Sensor..

  • if u ask me imports. im thinking that the car needs to get its apparture sigh on its M1A1 carbine. that wud make the car make less of that noise. also using dead silence might help. thats what i think.
