  • Hey J, I dont mean to be rude, but did you realize you got a little distracted and didn't reveal the rest of the scale in the lower register? After you described the 3 draw bent "a full step" and then to 3 Draw...you dont really finish the scale. How to finish the scale???? Please man, let me know!!!

  • Are the scales the same on any key?

  • so let me get this straight you played an A major scale in three positions on a D harp

  • great lesson! do you play any other instrument? greets =)

  • Ah yes, I remember Elvis Presley's great song about the harp, Two-Blow Mississippi Flash!

Sorry, I'll go away now, lol...

  • Great lesson, I had discovered this about using diferent positions in a blues progresion, but I didnt know how to get major scale in 3rd position in low octave, now i got. Thanks for your educational work. I guess that if u write a book or method with this and the intermediate advanced and advanced advanced teaching u got here in youtube its gonna be the best harmonica book ever.

  • the tough thing about playing major 2nd and 3rd is the overbending stuff, hope to get them someday. Up here harmonicas are getting expensive and is a better choice to have like the necessary for playing all the position. I actually play some 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 12th. If a master them, playing major and minor in each, then I wont need to buy all the harps.

  • Can't believe I never favourited this vid before now. It's pure gold in terms of tuition.

  • You rock. Thanks. I'm trying to learn and before I found your vids all I was finding was old dudes playing Danny Boy on their Echo Harps... Chacun son gout. Keep posting and I'll keep watching.

  • when did u start playing harmonica?! thats soo cool!

  • Yeah, he's gay, and he plays incredible harp. Maybe you should pay attention to that. Thanks for the lessons, Jason.

  • because of the importance of the harp in my life you personnelly have had a major impact on my life, thank you

  • very good lesson learned a lot

  • what's that website you mentioned in the first few seconds? harpel? harpal? I couldn't find it with a google search.

  • that's harpL

  • Gotta Jason you are really a good teacher, however this is good for me to watch and study but so advanced for me , however i'll save it for the future practice sessions, good stuff.

  • Just wanted to say sorry if it sounds like I'm complaining, I assure you, I'm NOT...this is SO helpful, I can't even tell you. You make it interesting and accessible. And your really cool hair makes it fun to watch, too :P

  • 3rd position just doesn't sound right, and I'm pretty sure I'm hitting the notes right. It especially doesn't sound right going down, on my harp, I'm playing on a marine band in D.

  • Are the last three notes on the 3rd position scale-meaning la si and do- are they 3d bent a half step(la), 3d natural(si) and 4B? I may be slow, but I've watched the 3rd position part of the video 3 times and I didn't see you actually say what the last three notes were.

  • I mean ti, not si.

  • i think it must be 3OB. A note i can't get

  • just visit your website, your a great musician Jason and i've been your student since 3 days ago. I hope I can wath you live here in Jakarta Indonesia at Javajazz Festifal or JakJazz Festival. I hope I can see you soon. but please play also jazz.

  • Thanks Jason Great video, Please Please Please Please drop into the harmonicaclub Voice webcam room some Thursday

  • oops.. just watched the -custom- videos, now I feel dumb.. lol

  • say, J .. just wondering what your feeling on the Suzuki - 'bluesmaster' brand is (knowing that you refer the germans don't make one good out of the box, yet you play a golden melody) thx again

  • masterful !! thx

  • No Thank you for watching!

    J

  • what is the deal with those overblows, i cant get them on my hohner special 20??!!

  • Check out 10 hole dot com for advice on tweaking harps for overblows and advice on the technique as well! Great site!

    Thanks J

  • Hi Jason, is anyone out there actively integrating the middle octave blues scales into first postion blues?

I've kind of got control over this myself but would like to find other people who are doing this.

  • Hi Jason,

Fantastic tuition. You and Adam Gussow have got me woodshedding after 20 years of learning.

What was the name of the site you mentioned at the beginning?

It would be useful to do a vid on the scales through the whole 10 holes.

  • You are a great teacher, thanks for taking your time to make these videos.

  • Thank you Buzz! Keep watching I'll keep making them!

  • A D harp, technically can be played in any key but most commonlly is played in D, A, E, and G.

  • skills....so does a D harmonica only play in the key of D? My dad had a harmonica when I was a key but I never knew the theory behind it. I remember having to isolate "holes?" by blocking some with my bottom lip.
