  • This is on Extra Credit on the DVD!

  • The Weather Show was aired infrequently, but they edited out the introduction and the ".....on Earth" at the end, yes, because it's Barnum & Bailey's trademark. They could have gone back and changed it the Greatest Show Around or some such.

  • this one did air in SAn Diego, 79 on KGTV, but only aired a few times before pulled, there saying it never eared.

  • Thanks so much for posting this I use to watch this every saturday morning wasnt it on channel 7? I really wish they would have kept it on it taught me alot and im sure it would have taught this generation of children also.

  • when they bounce up and down some kid in my class called him a pimp. HAHAHAHA!!!! and all the guys sing the girls parts.

  • You Mean Bob Kaliban?

    He Was In Drawing Power

  • i'm 16 and i listen to this just for fun when i'm bored. i still enjoy these lessons. even though i know almost all of this already.

  • Who is the lead singer?

  • @JGCooney Bob Alban. He didn't do any other SchoolhouseRock songs, nor do I see a Wikipedia entry on him, so I don't know anything more about him.

  • @IanCabell cstoczyn is right. His name is Bob Kaliban and he has been in other school house rocks. He was Mr. Chips (the computer) in the series of 3 videos named Scooter Computer and Mr. Chips and he has also been in some of the more recent ones such as the one about being eco friendly and in tyrannosaurus debt too. He's also famous for his commercial work.

  • This was definitely shown on TV at one time - I remember watching it (being a weather nut as a kid) when Schoolhouse Rock aired originally. Shortly after it was removed and it wasn't until an adult that I finally found out about the Barnum and Bailey nonsense that had it removed. Sad to think they were so petty.

  • @docflash1225 Quite right, doc: I saw this on TV in the early 80's, at least twice.

  • I didnt know mr.potatoe head could sing

  • those women look like they're humping his leg!!!!

  • The lesson here, kids: if you become a weather man fly honies will be all over you. lol

  • Damn, I hvent' seen this in years.

  • Actually-there's a slightly new version of Schoolhouse Rock with a few extras on government (I've never heard the one called Electoral College). The new additions are Money Rock and Schoolhous Rock! Earth-pertaining to things that aren't science but relate to what's going on (not quite Earth Science, but is about Earth).

  • man... as lame as this seemed, today's generation NEEDS school house rock.

... they're kind of stupid when it comes to these basic things.. esp the SHR songs about gov't.

  • @mtalia86 dude, im 12 and i love these

  • Where did you get this!?! I can't find another legitimate copy anywhere!

  • Who is the lead singer?

  • The song was written by Lynn Ahrens (who wrote many SHR songs) and was performed by Bob Kalban.

  • I had this on Disc 2 of the 30th Anniversary Edition "School House Rock!" DVD, and at the start, the guy said: Ladies and Gentlemen...THE WEATHER!" I like this version better!

  • I heard a tiny little bit of circus music at the end.

  • The lead singer of this video actually appeared in the opening used on Buena Vista-released videos and DVDs of "Schoolhouse Rock".

  • The guy almost resembles Mr. Lunt from VeggieTales

  • Why wasn't this ever shown?

  • It was shown once. After the first airing, the Schoolhouse Rock were immediately contacted by the Ringling Bros./Barnum/Bailey legal team, as they own the rights to the phrase "The Greatest Show on Earth". While the legalities were sorted out, this segment disappeared. It's on the DVD now, but all the references to "The Greatest Show on Earth" have been eliminated from the video.

  • Then how was the last line before "Yes sir!" sung?

  • In the edited edition, the guy peeks out from behind the sign and sings, ". . . The weather show's the greatest show, the greatest show . . .". The words "on Earth" are cut out, as is the zoom out from the sun that happens while they're singing those words. It's sort of weird, as the earlier phrase "money's worth" now has no rhyme in the song.

  • Never aired? I have this song on a schoolhouse video from the 80s...

  • Is it uncut?

  • I don't know - I don't remember!! I'll have to pull it out and look.

  • Awesome! Unedited! Thanks.

  • The 3 ladies sounds like Russi Taylor, right?

  • @raffirocks Who was Strawberry Shortcake's voice back then?

  • Is this song from Science Rock?

  • Sort of? It would have been part of Science Rock, but was never shown on TV or anything.

  • @SatyrTN Actually, a modified version of this song was released on a DVD set of all Schoolhouse Rock songs a few years ago. It was never connected to any particular rock, and the parts that upset B&B were edited out.

  • @SatyrTN If you must know why it never aired, the company that made this had legal trouble with the Ringling Brothers Circus because it used their slogan ("The Greatest Show On Earth"), so they weren't allowed to air it then.

  • @SatyrTN It had been part of the subject of science rock what I didn't know was why they didn't add it as part of the other shorts of science rock.

  • @SatyrTN Back in the early 1990s, we picked up a couple of cheap VHS tapes at our local supermarket collecting the SR videos. It was definitely included on the Science Rock tape, and since I wasn't old enough to have watched them when they were running on TV, I was kind of surprised when the eventual DVD release described it as "long-lost"....

  • @SatyrTN I recall seeing it a few times in the late 70's/early 80's in Boston (ABC Saturday AM) but it wasn't as common as some of the shorts...I always liked this one but I was interested in weather as a kid...in any case they need things like this on TV instead of the rot-gut that goes on nowadays

  • @raffirocks Wikipedia lists it under Science Rock from 1979.

    I've never seen it.

  • @raffirocks The answer is yes, It's under the subject of science rock I know because I have the DVD of all the schoolhouse rock shorts.

  • Watch them dry hump him at 0:14!

  • They need to bring this show back. How many time did I sing "Conjunction Junction, what's your function?" as a kid? Answer: alot.

  • @DClibertarian A lot Haha you should watch more. 'Alot' isn't a word lol. Haha but I get it-- my school even did a school house rock play! Great show!

  • I think it's so funny how the guy looks this is such an awesome vid

  • Actually, ABC used to air this, but stopped airing it when the Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey Circus sued -- seems they own the rights to the slogan "The Greatest Show On Earth". This episode is now known as "The Weather Show", and was included on the 30th Anniversary Edition "School House Rock!" DVD with the 'greatest show on earth' lines removed.

  • B&B blows then. If they're the reason they stopped airing this, then they are bad guys in my book.

  • I have an old SHR videotape from sometime in the 80s and this song's on it

  • They had to sue, or else their ability to sue against 'real' copyright cases would be hampered.
