  • wow i'm Marley

  • this is one of the things I liked about rap, with that I have no problem with the problem with the Lil Kim/Nicki Garbaj situation

  • Some say there's over 100, but I think somewhere around 40 answer records is about right.

  • one thing you learn about Roxanne is that she's got heart.

  • All on wax, no mindless threats about what the artist is going to do. It was all about who was the most clever...

  • @hundredthough wat made u say that she got all these mc's behind her even kurtis blow. u just stoopid!!! n u sound like u lying. u sound like u just stoooopid!!!lmao

  • Comment removed

  • whats funny is at the end he said none of the ladies names were roxanne. that was real cool. all of it was hot regardless back in the days.

  • BITE THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST TRACKS EVER.....

i remember picking it up when it dropped and learned it word for word, i must have been around 10-11, i still got the 12" from back then and it still gets play

  • @PATHH88 Bite This is one of the tightest hip hop tracks ever created and Shant'e was a straight brawler on the mic.

  • wooooow! this clip is awesome!! Roxanne Shante was the chick!!!

  • Say word i just notice suttn, My ninja Kane looks just like fat ol dirty bastard.

Lmao thats crazy wow, neva noticed dat be4.

  • The narrator of this clip sounds like the brutha from that NBC show "The Cape." You know, the guy who is the ringleader of all those circus dudes who introduced the cape to The Cape and trained him.

  • @CHANDSOME Keith David. Summin like that.

  • @CHANDSOME - Yeah. Keith David. I believe that IS him.

  • queenzbridge thats my hood

  • hahahha "i don't think any of their names were Roxanne"

  • @gobberpooper that's funnny because they weren't . Roxanne Shante's real name is Lolita Shanté Gooden , and the Real Roxanne is named Adelaida Martinez

  • @JaySwiftMC i know, that's why i laughed.

  • Gangster rap killed Hip Hop!

  • @FunkDoppler

    nah, mainstream media "killed" rap.

it was doing fine back then up till 2004

  • 13 years old? Wow : ) But, for real, both Roxanne's are fine.

  • Lol Yo Roxanne was just 13, hwo you gonna diss a 13 year old and make a diss track for a 13 year old, thats fucked up

but this beef was funny as hell, Roxanne OWNED

  • @FoziaAbdi Sh was born in '69, so she couldn't have been 13.

  • @bugstrut this was in 84

  • @bugstrut she was 13 but that is crazy shante was nice on the mic

  • That ish was crazy back in the day. But mad fun.

  • It's funny when BDK says "...people that have nothing to do with it." The camera pans and zooms in on Magic Don Juan. LMAO!!!

  • SHE LIED ABOUT BEIN A DOCTOR LOL

  • Lol at the pimp the background. Why he everywhere?

  • i miss these days classic hiphop.

  • 1:57 i know thats Dr Ice on the left but doesnt he look abit like Chris Rock??

  • The Magic Don Wand [3:03] must be the most hyudrated man in show business. He always have that cup in his hands.

  • The Roxanne wars was a memorable time. I remember dj"s cuttin, scratchin and mixin all Roxanne beats and rhymes. Gotta agree w/ lildwayne21, Roxanne Shante was dope and was ready to battle anybody!

  • @djdrizzae You also need to remember...Kiss and BLS were at war on which station would break in the new music and when that happened, the station who breaks it in first gets the ratings.

  • Wow, The Real Roxanne was so hot!

  • Props to Marly Marl for putting early hip-hop on the radar. RIP

  • @choice2099 marley marl is alive and well! i guess you're thinking of mr. magic.

  • @hundredthough Marley Marl spins on WBLS 107.5 on Friday Nights at 9pm <I listen to the show all the time.

  • @BJSteigner yup. i've caught the show here and there.

  • @hundredthough I admit to becoming a weekly listener...Can't live without the old school.

  • @choice2099 WAIT A SECOND!did marley amrl actuaaly pass?if so,when and how?

  • @MaStormy no. marley is alive and well.

  • @hundredthough thanks!!!

  • Marley Marl made his bones off producing Roxxxane Shante...The Real Roxxxane was prettier but she could'nt rap for shit...along with UTFO, she helped their producers Full Force gain enough clout to release their own records and their most successful proteges Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam....so that one record helped launch several careers including Big Daddy Kane...he ghost wrote for Shante and then Biz Markie...which lead to Cold Chillin Records and the Juice Crew...look at him chillin with Don Juan!

  • Roxxane Shante is so dope

  • hip hop is so dope

  • lmao none of they names was roxanne

  • Relatively unknown DJ, Marley Marl???

    FAIL!!!

  • @smoothpants well, at that time marley marl WAS relatively unkown. this was 1984. the very begginning of marley marl and the juice crew.

  • @smoothpants Well in 84 he was kind of unknown, at least out here on the west coast... after Roxanne's Revenge he blew up though, and he was known everywhere...

  • THIS BITCH DIDNT WRITE 90% OF HER RHYMES.

  • @jmbhottie23 you dead wrong, little man.

  • True female legend.....

  • the real roxanne fine as hell

  • @ju5tblaz3 I am not sure about all of that, but surely you have what I call a (player hater Degree). But, then again, she may have been right she does have a phD (ass piled high & Deep). Eat a dick.

  • @placeinheaven recent reports have suggested she doesn't have a doctorate after all, despite her claims.

  • Shante is definitely one of my all time music heroes...female or not. Her early tunes hit soooo hard - they still sound great today. And her voice *still* oozes with such sexiness

  • im Kangol from UTFO, and she said so, and said I so? baby dont you know? LMAO@how he said "so" lol

  • Good googa mooga, just how many were there? He said roxanne mother... wow!

  • @garggleandspit3

There are loads of Roxanne / reply records... Roxanne Roxanne, Roxannes Revenge, The Real Roxanne, Roxannes Doctor, Roxannes Brother, Roxannes Parents, Roxannes A Man, The Roxanne Diss, Roxannes Real Fat... The list goes on. I collected (and still have) many of the 'Roxanne Saga' records since it began in 1984/5. I have about 20+ and am always looking out for new ones.

  • uhhh, is anyone gonna call out the ninja in the pink suit? or mo so the fact that nobody is laughing in that scene. and yeah...i know who he is, just can't remember that ninja's name right now

  • @atl5150 Don the Magic Juan, usually rolls with snoop dogg

  • she's my mentor

  • Shante was so bold she was capable of dropping the name Roxanne. She could afford to because she always held her own.

  • who got the beat at 1:16??

  • who got the beat at 1:16?????

  • Good stufff, thanks for posting.

  • am i the only that notices how aged her hands looked when she was younger?

  • The real Roxanne was better real talk

  • without the roxanne shante there would be no real roxanne like she said in one of her songs "i gave birth to them mc's"I liked both don't get me wrong but her voice was sooo unique and she could rap off the top of her head like crazy and woud just release it that way ....Without her there would be no balttles or female rappers today she is a pioner along with the greats....

  • Rip both Apache and Killa Sha!

  • Okay. She lied about having a PH.D How many of you have lied about something you never really did? And if many of you say you have never done that then you are lying?

It is dissapointing to find out that she was lying. But the positive things that she has done for single Black women, counseling of up and coming rappers and the community outreach programs she has started far out-weigh this one big lie.

  • "Roxanne responded with bite this calling out The real roxanne, Sparky dee, Kurtis blow, LL Cool j & Run Dmc" WTF, She must be crazy!

  • @Batiste369 LOL that's how we crazy female's are.EYES WIDE OPEN.Because we don't be giving a fuxx!!!!

  • @Batiste369

Let me tell you something.Roxxane Shante was a true MC Warrior! Allot of heart!

  • @Batiste369 she was that bitch

  • 80's Hip Hop was the best Hip Hop. Boogie Down Productions, Juice Crew All Stars (Shante, Biz, Shan, Big Daddy, Craig G, Kool G Rap and the rest), Skinny Boys, Mantronix, T La Rock, Public Enemy, Just-Ice, Run DMC, Steady B, Schoolly D, Cookie Crew, LL Cool J, Lakim Shabazz, MC Lyte (Paper Thin, 10% Diss, Lyte As A Rock), Eric B and Rakim, EPMD, NWA, Salt 'n Pepa, Doug E. Fresh, DJ Cash Money and Marvelous, Ultramagnetic MC's and many more. 90's Hip Hop was good too (Paris, UGK, CMW, Boss).

  • @luvindogadis411, don't forget nasty nas, pete rock, a tribe called quest, de la soul, main source, DITC, cl smooth, gangstarr, dilla, madlib, MF doom, mos def, talib kweli, etc etc hip hop still alive and kickin'!

  • Why isn't Big Daddy Kane (Rapper) named at the end of the interview? (The last to be interviewed - with the cornrows)

  • it was great, but everything else was shit in the 80's

  • ... was good times but having to carry my bicycle to save rubber on the tyres was hard

    3:02 .. too much too young ?

  • Roxanne Shante beats the Real Roxanne. PHD means playa hatin degree to the fool who didnt know.

  • Oh u guys are jokes." Have a nice day".. was the hot fire.. go back and check it

  • This is when hip hop was real.... I hate this asshole rappers of today...

  • help me!! who have the instrumentals on the songs in background here?? have looking for them in yeras now..premier??

  • Wow Roxanne, I can't you lied about having a PHD. I bet your some where being a cashier at Walmart.

  • Comment removed

  • You must be on the late show. Everybody know Roxanne Shante is a liar. She does not have Ph.D or any degree. What's the name of her practice? I'll tell you it doesn't exists. Look it up on Wikipedia. Do you know we have a black president?

  • Oh well, what can I say. One things for certain, she got us writin' about her. Peace out.

  • no she didn't she was recently exposed she lied about everything

  • Comment removed

  • people stopped asking her about why she lied because she recently announced that she has breast cancer....sad....about both.

  • Is she lying about having breast cancer too?

  • wow... Roxanne CONte...the con artsist...I'm thinkin this fool really got a PhD...WHY U LIE? You've tarnished your legacy forever!!!!

  • This is how a real battle goes...20 years later sitting around with each other smiling and laughing about it. True Hip Hop...It's all about the art of the battle, it's all about skills, it's all on wax.

  • Her big mama track must be one of the hardest diss tracks ever. Don't mess with this woman.

  • Roxanne Shante's real name was Lolita Shante'....LOL....AND..she was pregnant in that video and had her son when she was 15 years old !!!...WTF!!! MC Lyrte was good but Roxanne Shante was the BIG MAMA !!! LOL....

  • Was that Big Daddy Kane at the end?

  • no that was don juan

  • Shante iz my girl...(always will be)... but LYTE IZ betta & ate Shante 4 dinner n a battle...but u gotta admit; Shante killed Sparky D in Roxanne vs. Sparky D

  • damnnnn. hip hop beef is way different now. now a days ppl bring the streets into hip hop. back then it was jus" ohh i'm better then you and ima better mc" buh now its just dangerous. it just makes you think...

  • That's what was so fun about that time. All the beef was on wax and most if not all of it was real it was just a way to show who's rhymes were the best. Now people want to shot and fight over a song.

  • @ferre77 Which is killing Hip Hop and promoting just Rap. Sad, isn't it?

  • i was roxanne's pimp in 86 on wax

  • Roxanne Shante one of the best period.

  • roxanne was ok... Lyte owned that era tho, like gave it to you like the female 2pac on some real shit

  • Roxxane is toooo dooope!

  • Remember "Roxxanne is a Man!" I think that was the one that overdid it.

It all got too funny but, Everybody wanted to be known and, at least for the time, that's all Rap Beef was. Now, it's gotten dangerous all in the name of the Music Industry making money!

  • I'm 36, PROPS!!!!! TO ROXANNE!

We used to rock her music in San Antonio all day. I never knew what she looked like till last month ironically.

She is cute. That other chick was such a biter!

  • It's not a thought....Shante has a PhD and does psychological work in private practice. She also owns an ice cream business on the side.

  • Hidden talent, she did not think much of it, but she but her mother FIRST, and she had skills, that's what's up!

  • "i don't think their names really were roxanne"

    ahaha

  • Do yall remember when JJ Fad, Supersonic was trying to dis roxanne. SMH

  • I remember...Shannie clowned them on "Wack itt" served them on "Badsister" and all out bodied them on "Skeezer"....they was not ready!

  • Yeah. First time I heard a chick beatboxin.

  • YALL? BUT YE I REMEMBER HER

  • beautiful girl.

  • Good god she was young.

  • Probably the last good BEEF documentary. After this one it descended into petty squabbles with no-name rappers.

  • 2:37-2:47 Damn, she was servin 'em right and left! lol

  • Juice crew diss...by cool C

  • damn roxanne was a a cutie as shit when she was young

  • The best female rapper from the early hip hop days .

  • The Bast Female Ever

  • don't dickeat

  • no its not mc lyte is

  • MC Lyte came with the hardness...

  • Wasn't nobody fucking with Shante with Kane on her side.

  • i was born in 1985..i dont remember any of this lol

  • ??? most ppl aren't aware of real music, don't feel bad...

  • I remembered this just like it was yesterday. At the time I was 12 years old.

  • I give roxanne props for calling all these rappers that are legends. Got some big balls to come out dissing every rapper there was out there.

  • That's why, HipHopHead33, the decade of 2000 is an era of human sheeps, to paraphrase AC/DC: nobody is putting up a fight. What I mean is that, even at parties that I go to, even while in the beginning stages of getting drunk the females typically slink away and the guys are incoherent. I'm from San Francisco.

  • I'm talking about trying to coax a rhyme cypher. California is pretty boring, populated by voyeuristic sluts and danked out dudes with no skills.

  • Like Krs One said if it Wasn't for Roxanne Shante responding to that song..battle rap would have never come to light

  • True

  • man bdk really looks like odb in beef

  • ahhhhhhh,a trip down memory lane...lol...never liked any of the roxannes...i thought shante was the most brazen, callin' every body out.which was cool.but i thought her cut with BIZ was soooo much better.and the real roxanne definetly got better as time went on.her album with howie tee is fuckin' classic!and she was a hottie! but let's be real here..considering where shante is now and how she got there.who's the real winner ? ain't that right dr.shante ?

  • This is what I call "Real Rap Battle" not today's crap music that's on the radio.

  • i bought the 45 record of that battle, i also used remember the roxanne- sparky d battle

  • poor sparky didnt have a chance

  • Shante is amazing. Love that woman.

  • Great to see the all time champ Kane at the end there

  • Awesome that you can see all the people from the old school beefs standing up together laughing at all this. New rappers will be in convalescent homes flinging shit bags at each other in 2065 over 2003 beefs.

  • Yeah, and they will be in wheelchairs from gunshots that made them crippled.

  • Marley Marl's one of the greatest. Some of my all time favourites came from him. Bite This, The Bridge, Marley's Scratch, Get Into It, You Shouldn't Have Done It, The Symphony etc.

  • Now that is what I call "hip hop" beef. Settle that ish on the mic, lol. And now they all look back at it and is able to laugh and talk about it.....can't say that for PAC or Biggie :-(. Now a days, these beefs go too far. Love the video....memories

  • love the twin towers...such sweet memories...(RIP)091108

  • shante was da shit!!! she made me wanna rap low key. fuck da haters das da real queen a dis rap shit

  • shantae will always be the queen of hiphop

  • all of the old school rappers are rele the parents of rap so i dnt know y ppl hatin on them cuz if it want 4 them there would b no 50 cent or and body cuz they all got started by following Lyte and Run DMC

  • LOL, check out pimp at 2:59

  • ROFL...and he's wearing...pink...BWAHAHAHA

  • ...:}

  • i think mc lyte was or shall i say IS the best female rapper of all time period. if anybody ever heard mc lyte steady fucking diss toward roxane shante murked her.

  • no dont even compare this to 50 and ja rule, because 50 and ja rule came from the same hood but hung out with people that hated eachother so they got sucked into beefin witheachother, 50 cent has said many times that even though ja rule and 50 dont diss eachother anymore, they can never be friends, i mean game and 50 can be cool, but never ja rule cuz ja is the reason 50 got stabbed..thats REAL HATE lol

  • The coolest thing about this is watching Kangol Kid AND Roxanne Shante (two former adversaries) yukking it up like old friends!

(50 Cent, Ja Rule, take some notes...)

  • remenber taping all the battles on a all dayer in bout 84? think it was on kiss or lwr.....

  • Lolll i did that too :) loved it

  • 3;09 funniest part---who is roxanne? lol

  • I love Roxanne Shante because she is a smart woman. She dont even need to rap cuz she got her doctorate. She knew when to bow out and move on unlike a lot of other rappers(i.e. LL Cool J,MC Lyte etc.)

  • She left because she was tired of rapping and didnt want to be an old ass 40 year old rapper still trying to compete with kids young enough to be her kids. LL needs to move on and what is MC Lyte doing other than voice overs?

  • Apparently she's not too wack since she's a legend and will be portrayed by Keke Palmer in a movie about the Juice crew. She was really the first female rapper to have a hit as a solo artist. there were others before her but they werent as successful.

  • Well now, that is true, and it's a fact that can't be denied
