Ha!! It was pretty hard to find because of so much Krush Groove posts, so I thought you might not have seen it,,, just wanted to bring it to your attention,, I always liked this theme for the movie,, it was sort of Jazzy/Funky and the 12" was REALLY hard to find!!
all day movie to be seen all the time A CLASSIC C LAROCK IS BACK NEW SINGLE CALL DO YOU REALLY LOVE IN STORE REAL SOON OR JUST CHECK IT OUT ON YOUTUBE C LAROCK
The movie guys edited all that stuff. We just sent the long version of the song. The song also appeared as a "B" side on the single (45rpm) "Krush Groovin'" which featured th so called "Krush Groove All Stars". It was an edited version and that may be the version you're talking about. That single came on bilboard at 93 and backpeddled to 96 the very next week! LOL! Our Compleat 12" has another song on the "B'side. "Wild Imagination" was written by our bass player,CC and he and DJ produced.
Giles Reaves, a wizard of a producer/songwriter who did a lot of work out at the Castle, engineered the project for us. He really knew the Fairlight and every other piece of equipment in the studio. Kold Krush, however, with all its pluses, made little or no money, mainly becaused we were squeezed off the soundtrack album (Krush Groove came before CD's) by all of Rusell Simmons acts. Oh well, maybe people will enjoy Kold Krush now, 25 years later!
Well, as time progressed, and being the track was played at least three times during the film, people WONDER what is that infamous instrumental played in the background that WASN'T on the LP? And that is why I wanted to post this video to show others. BTW, I always liked versions that weren't put on vinyl, and there was a version of Kold Krush that differs from the 12" that played during the middle or end of the movie. What did they do with the "outtakes" that were on reel, are they long lost?
We had a production deal at a fantastic studio in Nashville called the Castle. It was really state-of-the-art for back them. We basically lived in the production room with the Fairlight, Yamaha DX1 and a 24 trk Studer Tape machine. The main controll room featured a SSL board and two Mitsubishi 32 trk Digital recorders. It was heaven for us and we recorded tons of tracks, trying to get a new record deal after our record company (Compleate) went belly up. We did some hot songs at the Castle!
I'm happy so many of you like this song. My name is Geo Cooper and I wrote "Kold Krush". Originally written for our second album, the original title was "Power of Love" and it had a lyric. After our manager, David Lombard, told us of the chance to be in the movie, we submitted the instrumental track. The movie's director liked it and chose it to be the movie's theme song. Some facts: Darryl Jones added those "dope scratches" using an old Fairlight. Van Bradshaw played that hot guitar solo.
Very interesting to know there was a Fairlight used in your track! I had a feeling there was, being the main keyboard solo had the "Bottle Puff" sound used in Art Of Noise "Moments In Love" You have no idea how HARD it was to find the 12" when I place an ad in Bargain News (CT) and someone responded to my add and sold me the record. It has that nice Jazz Funk feel to it, very Funky hard to find but definitely not forgotten as you can see, and THANKS for not pulling a WMG move and removing it!
Yeah -- we met in Murfreesboro. My roommate and I were always at Mainstreet when you guys -- Darryl, Randy, Geo, Van, Cecil and Dwayne -- were there. We even got on stage with you guys a few times. Remember ....Cathy and Lenora:-)
early 80's was the best era of Hip Hop then came more dopeness the late 80's Kane,Rakim era after that came the last dope era,the90's new jack swing era.R.I.P 2010 sorry Kanye West cause your the only dope Mc left, you are truley a throw back M.C.
