This was their first time skating to a Paso Doble CD in their entire career so I am optimistic they will continue to improve next season.
I know Evgeny Platov said he would've put D&S and V&M ahead of Belbin and Agosto in the CD, so I guess it could be a close 3rd.
There is nothing wrong with this CD. Clean, CORRECT inside/outside edges, good placement, and interpretation. Their timing is so much better than in the past, too.
Ben is a great ice dancer, but puhlease, where did he get that costume. It is truly ugly. Tanith looked beautiful as usual, but I really, really hate his costume.

The drama was a bit OTT, but I would say that more so for DomShabs.

On a second viewing I agree with you. Actually, B/A really over did it. Their skating was fine, but the expression was just way too much. Domnina just killed it, she was so fierce! But I almost didn't notice poor Maxim lol.
Yeah, which is another problem in D/S's dance, the Paso is supposed to show off the man more than the woman :D I don't know if Domnina's expression is really fierce, but it's her skating that's really hard, as the guy says she hits the ice all the time with her feet, instead of sliding... But I would still think D/S's skating is still way better than the Americans', I've always thought B/A were very overrated technically (all the drama is there to conceal the lack of technique IMO...).
For those who don't undertand French, the commentators are amazed at how over-the-top their expression and their costumes (his costume actually) are. They say it is way "too much" and overdramatic, with absolutely no subtelty. He says drama is OK but it must be good quality drama and not this kind of vulgar "facial gymnastics" that's completely out of place. He also says that this kind of thing is killing ice dancing by destroying its credibility.
Using facial expressions is OK as long as you do it with taste and it's not completely over-the-top... And it's too often used to hide the lack of content too (just like flinging your arms around in every direction if you see what I mean).
I so agree with the commentators, it is sooo heavy and overly dramatic it is completely ridiculous. The worst thing is that all the drama is here to conceal the lack of quality in the skating for a couple that's supposed to be a potential World champion... I would like to see where they would be if they were not American. Honestly.

As much as I like them I can´t help noticing their multiple weaknesses here.
0:53 to 0:55 they´re feet are unmatched ant they skate very separated into the second sequence (0:56).
They´re both very leaned to the front but their hips very separated (1:05 to 1:10).
Slight imbalance from her at 1:15.
His leg extension in the crossovers is so poor.
They stop skating before the pattern is over (1:41)
Their movements are kinda forced but still better than in the past. I´d put them in 3rd

If I were a judge, I would have given Ben's a deduction (and that's saying something because I typically love his skating.)

The only problem I have with their 2009 CD is their costumes. I think they could have done better with the costumes.
