that thing is sweet, PAINTED IN NLR!! thats where i do all my railfanning!!! (north little rock, arkansas) check out my videos. i have a video the Cenntenial Out front of UP in NLR
Hey My son lives in Sheridan Arkansas...you mean to tell me I could driven 60 miles to see the Jacks....Bummer...of all the UP diesels...they are my favorites!!
awesomeness on the cabride(or spin? lol) and that is a sick GP20, didnt know the firts still excisted, and i got a question, what company made the dam contraption? EMD?
Wow, are you lucky. :D I have made it a point to see UP 6936 in person before i die or before she gets retired, whichever comes first. The engines sound just like the 645's in the SD40-2; are they the same PMs?
The Nathan M5 horn series dates way back to the 1950s. Of course there have been minor updates, including the way horns are cast and tuned. The Nathan K series horns were the "next generation", with the K5LA being the most popular and Nathan's biggest seller. The K3HL and K5HL don't sound bad to me at all. IMHO, it's nice to hear the variety.
wow thats a big horn button

@pianomanmaestro one is in a park in Nebraska the other idk what happened to the other DD40X
xtremepadrefan 1 year ago
@pianomanmaestro sorry, I meant to say Why did UP retire those units?????????
pianomanmaestro 1 year ago
@pianomanmaestro From what I hear, they weren't very fuel efficient, and they were really only experimental locomotives (hence the "X")
LNERMallard 11 months ago
@pianomanmaestro Yes they did but 6936 is the only one running.

Yup, the Centennial's got two 645's. Not sure if they are exactly the same as SD40-2's and GP40's, but they sound very similar, with a bit more bass.
cchan006 3 years ago
I just love the sound of the SD40-2, with its (what I assume to be) turbo whine. :D

is the horn a two tone?sounds like it.
boo7297 3 years ago
They should install the original horn back on the 6936. It sounds better then the horn that it has now
DASCO2136 3 years ago
K5HL is the best?? Are you on crack! Get a RS-5T on it like it should have. Thats a real horn.

If another DDA40X was going to be restored which one would be?
kmothersil 4 years ago
WAIT WAIT WAIT!!!!! YOUR SAYING A K5HL is better than a M5?
CSX700 4 years ago
To make a comment about this I think both horns are better along with other horns.
kmothersil 4 years ago
That Nathan M-5 sounds like a truckhorn, even though it isn't. I can imagine that Nathan M-5 would be well over the decibel level of a truckhorn.

yeah the GEVO's K5HL horn are the best
CSXSD70M 4 years ago
HELL NO!!!! The K5HL's are horable! they even have them installed backwards!

That's an EPA "noise pollution" regulation if I'm not mistaken.

I'm inside #6936, which is owned by UP.

I'm Youtube famous now :) You should make it up to Portola for Railroad Days on the 23rd.
seth4404 4 years ago
XD the Centennial is a awesome locomotive
starbster 2 years ago
That sounds like a Nathan M5.
cc10266 4 years ago
I've been told that it is a Nathan M5 and that the volunteers at the Portola Railroad Museum installed it before making the trip to Dunsmuir.
cchan006 4 years ago
Yep, that's an M5, just like WP used.
mafarnz 4 years ago
