Now, I am certainly not old enough to 'recollect' this from any personal, live experience, but I find the atmosphere and mood surrounding Ler's soloing in this video to be surreally similar to the stage presence of Jimmy in the video "The Song Remains The Same" when I used to view that dosed on blotter. I hasten to add I don't think it's the acid talking, either. Maybe it's something about the lighting that reminds, too.

This might very well be my favorite Primus footage.

Also, the general audience likes music that follows a major, pentatonic, or minor scale. Primus has always been all over the place in that aspect, also there are no steady chord changes in primus, they are a musicians band for sure, it takes a bit of knowledge of music theory and an open ear to understand them. Notice how there biggest hit is Wynonas Big brown beaver, The song that follows your described pattern, and is based around a pentatonic scale.
