I am from a Christian background. I have a friend who is Jewish and we live in a country where Jews are a very small minority (around 2000 in a population of 6 million). I told him I was gay and he accepted me from day one, far better then some of my Christian friends. Our friendship has never been stronger. Regardless of what minority you belong to, my advice is this, hold your head high and be proud!

In 7th grade I had a friend who came out to me and told me that he was gay. I came out to him and told him I'm an atheist. We both had a really hard time in yeshiva but we made it through. Today he is a very happy openly gay man. I envy that because I still have to lie about believing in god.

Look I am Roman Catholic, but while I sympathise with all of you, the person I loved best was the camp guy (in the Maroon sweater): he has really grasped what it means to be human being. You can be Jewish without being Frum, it seems. Many Reform and Conservative rabbis are wonderful for gay people. Why not simply accept that some versions of strict Jewish law are false interpretations?
Also, I believe that it important to stress that God has unconditional love for all His creations whether they are gay, straight, Jewish, non-Jewish, etc, and He expects us to do the same.
So, while I believe that being gay and being Jewish are mutually exclusive, I do believe that it is wrong to discriminate or hate or to make anyone feel like they are not worth anything, whether or not you agree with the decisions they make.
If I can put in my two cents here as an Orthodox heterosexual Jew:
The main argument for accepting gay people is the "Who's to say what's right or wrong argument" and that is a very valid point. In fact I agree with it and I support gay rights from legal and social standpoint.
However, from a religious standpoint, it does say very clearly in the Torah that homosexual relations are forbidden, and Judaism is not about accepting that parts of the Torah that are appealing or easy or that make sense.

The orthodox jewish community have been tolerant to gays. Its the ULTRA orthodox 'jews' that have been very extremist and irrational toward other jews. I am a reform jew and I occasionally observe most traditional rituals though my parents weren't practicing jews. My mother wasn't even an observant jew due to the holocaust. The hatred against jews of Eastern Europe was phenomenal. I am not even aware on how the Sephardic jews fare during the holocaust.

You can be Jewish without being Frum, it seems. Many Reform and Conservative rabbis are wonderful for gay people. So, while I believe that being gay and being Jewish are mutually exclusive, I do believe that it is wrong to discriminate or hate or to make anyone feel like they are not worth anything, whether or not you agree with the decisions they make.

If I can put in my two cents here as an Orthodox heterosexual Jew:
The main argument for accepting gay people is the "Who's to say what's right or wrong argument" and that is a very valid point. In fact I agree with it and I support gay rights from legal and social standpoint.
However, from a religious standpoint, it does say very clearly in the Torah that homosexual relations are forbidden, and Judaism is not about accepting that parts of the Torah that are appealing or easy or that make sense.

The orthodox jewish community have been tolerant to gays. Its the ULTRA orthodox 'jews' that have been very extremist and irrational toward other jews. I am a reform jew and I occasionally observe most traditional rituals though my parents weren't practicing jews. My mother wasn't even an observant jew due to the holocaust. The hatred against jews of Eastern Europe was phenomenal. I am not even aware on how the Sephardic jews fare during the holocaust.
