Black has never said that N.I.B stands for Nativity in Black. In fact, Geezer said that he wanted Nib to look cooler so he capitalized the letters and put periods between them. Nib is the hook of a pen that hooks to your pocket. That's what Bill Ward, the drummer's beard looked like.

With his hair kind of spiked up the guys said Bill looked like an old fashioned pen nib or tip. So they called the song "NIB" for lack of a better title. Later on people kept asking what "NIB" was so rather than give that goofy story they came up with the catchier title "Nativity in Black".
