  • Dieter, you're a hero.

  • cant wait to get one of this great synth. so great smooth sound

  • what is that keyboard

  • @brandondavenport562 Looks like a Korg poly 800 with the reverse keyboard

  • That is the coolest keybed EVER!!!

    I WANT THAT KEYBOARD!!!!!

Oh yeah - cool synth too....

  • such quality in such size! I want one please. i dont even have it in my country T___T

  • could someone pls make a remix of that?! :D

  • Love this little thing.

  • This would sound pretty nice on bass guitar? At least I think it would??? Anyone

  • You can, instead, just replicate all of these sounds with software. What's the need for the hardware?

  • @mwtillotson lmao, how is it possible for anyone to be this stupid?

  • @mwtillotson Don't ever go near an instrument. You're too stupid.

  • @eggsdonutsyum

Explain to me how I am wrong.

  • @mwtillotson

it will never be the exact same sound. Even from DAW to DAW waveforms and filters sound differently from one another.

  • @mwtillotson I heard that they brought out a new computer that runs on waves, not ones and zeros... So don't worry about them; it's everyone else who's stupid.

  • @mwtillotson As long as it works, hardware is fine, but once it gets old and capacitors dry and circuits decay, then it becomes useless.

  • @mwtillotson this is why the music industry fails, fuckheads who replace actual synth programming skills with shit software. get some real skills you fuck

  • @04tm34l3

That's why the music industry fails? The tonality of synths? Please find rope long enough to kill yourself with.

I don't give a fuck about synths. I'm a piano player, not a keyboardist. The problem with modern music--all music which has ever existed--is poor songwriting, poor lyrics, and a lack of originality. Whatever "skills" you believe lies in creating your bullshit tones you can have -- the greatest music ever made was written without them. This will continue to be the case.

  • @mwtillotson I don't think that's true, some what I consider the greatest music ever made had some pretty interesting synth tones. However the idea that music is somehow worse because people use DAWs and VSTs instead of analogue synths is ridiculous. If anything VSTs open up more possibilities.

  • @TheSmallBombs

There's little use in debating what the "greatest music ever" actually is, but I have my doubts that the music you speak is entirely hinged on the tonality of synths (certainly, at least, not so much so that VST plugins could not fulfill the role).

I know very little about synthesizing--I don't claim to be an expert. However, when my honest question received a barrage of elitist, angry comments, I cannot help but think there's more to this than music.

  • @mwtillotson I didn't say VST synths couldn't fill the role. However a lot of electronic music is about varying the tonality as much as the pitch, you'll get parts in tracks that are technically the same note but varying timbre of the synths instead, opening and closing filters, applying effects etc.. And then of course there are artists that are all about sound design, like Merzbow etc.

  • Wow, it's Doepfer himself.

  • The linear and exponential modulations sound like FM synthesis, which makes sense I guess. But that is very cool.

  • sounds like arnold swarzennegger lol doesnt he?

  • German accent fits so good <3

  • @97036 I love so much "ze deutsch accent" :))))

  • That controller is awesome :D

  • the clean sine wave sounds a bit like a Fender Rhodes..

  • HI ALL

can i play on it using midi control keyboard like alesis??

  • @mosze44 Yes, you can plug in any midi capable controller.

If you look at it at doepfer dot de, the details are there.

  • Feines Teil!

Wie ist das mit der Kalibrierung? Das klingt nämlich irgendwie verstimmt...

  • nice demo...

  • this synth is kick ass. im getting one :)

  • does anyone have any idea what he's using for a MIDI controller, that's like the coolest thing i've ever seen

  • @lwk38w according to doepfers website, they dont sell midi keyboards, only Gate keyboards. so its probably one of his own(they are very expensive!)

  • @lolcat23 That's not quite true - they have MIDI organ controllers as well.

They do sell seperate keybeds of high quality, but you can get finished ones too.

  • @lucemiserlohn thats right, i didnt see the midi ones before. but now they are almost on the front page :)

  • @lwk38w I think it's a Doepfer D3M with inverse keys.

  • @projectdehli It is, I was just looking at it on their website. The top cover is taken off though.

  • @lwk38w as far as I can see he's using not the MIDI but cv/gate controller. it's an older standard than the MIDI.

  • Hello,

    It's 100% analog, therefore no presets??..Or?

  • presets are for pussies

  • its like darth vader had sex with a moog and made a analogue baby of doom

  • @MrFaceHead you read my mind...

  • this is excellent but I need to do more research about it. I hope its the same volt/octave as Moog stuff, and that there is a simple way to implement pitch bending.

  • yes osc pitch can ne controlled with CC# and pitchbend!

  • Is it true that the only output it has is a single 1/8th inch jack?

  • @weaponEX Yes, it saves space. But I believe you get a 1/8th to 1/4 jack cable with it.

  • I didn't think you were "allowed" to output from an 1/8th inch jack! I thought we turned our noses up at such a prospect!

  • It is not ideal, but not a problem. It's just a slightly less robust connector.

If all the IO on the synth was on 1/4 jacks, the whole unit would have to be larger to fit them all.

1/8th sockets is common to a lot of Doepfer gear, but not usually as a main output. Then again, the 1/8th output means it is straightforward to patch in and out of a Doepfer modular for example. So you can do it all using only 1 kind of cable for the most part. I expect that would be the thinking behind it on this?

  • I always condemn people who use their laptops to make music live but use the headphones output into the PA system instead of a pair of 1/4 inch jacks from an audio interface. You can always hear the loss in quality and it never sounds as good. I always associate 1/8th inch jacks with that kind of amateurishness.

Surely not on a beautiful sounding synth like this?

  • Aha, this is a different issue. The laptop would sound bad not because of the type of jack used, but because laptops have the very cheapest DA converter chips a manufacturer can get (Including Macs) & they don't sound good, as you found (+ only opperate at a medium grade sample rate). An output via any half decent usb/firewire audio interface would sound miles better. But again, not because of the type of audio jack. It's the DA conversion hardware that makes the difference in your example :)

  • Why would we? Does it matter if it has a 1/8 inch or 1/4 inch jack? It has no influence at all on sound quality. :)

  • yes.

  • dark energy !!!

  • Hi Dieter, ich liebe diesen Kleinen Racker und ich bin mir sicher dass ich mir auch noch einen schnappe....

  • Good job Dieter! Analogue rules.

Das ist ein wirklich toller Synth!

  • I´d like to know what keyboard model is it.

    Nice synth also.

  • Doepfer sells fatar keys for DIY Keyboards and also the matching electronics.

  • THIS SYNTH IS NICE.

  • Hello, good video :) , I've posted ti on my blog switchedonsynthesizer.blogspot . com .Thanks
