Hah ^^ duriel is the hardest boss in d2 i think, just because he can randomly one-shot you if he feels like it.... I remember I used to have to try a couple of times every time I got to him, because you're completely at his mercy: he has like one attack that insta kills, and it's up to him wether he uses it or not xD

Duriel is ok to kill. Uber Duriel is fun. Just takes a little longer. Uber Meph on the other hand is by far the most difficult to kill. But my Smiter crushes them all. Fun game tho.

@dreadful0chicken Because he's an asshole. If you can take him out with a ranged weapon, you can beat him without even getting frozen once. He's slow as hell (pun intended).

@Ryfasol I guess I had a "certain character with a certain build," then. Mostly how I beat him was strategy, though. I wasn't doing a blind playthrough of the game; I knew Duriel had a lot of hit points, so I ran in with all of my Necrominions, used a high-level clay golem to distract him (which I recast each time it died), put 3 mana potions on my potions bar for recasting the clay golem, and brought a bow with three damage-dealing gems in it. Easy peasy.

They only ever lastest 3 hits maximum.

The only way I could defeat him was using this strategy:

Open SoTP outside Baal's tomb and summon a Blood Golem.

Walk inside and immediately cast Curse on Duriel so any damage he does to me or my Blood Golem is reflected back at him.

While he is busy with my Blood Golem, I pick up my corpse and attack him from behind.

It took me about 10 times to kill him doing this...

Just a quick tip.  If you can manage to grind up to lvl 24 and get decrepify, that will make the Duriel battle(along with all the other boss battles) a cakewalk. It slows them down so much you can manage the battle a lot better.

i think duriel's the hardest to defeat, in single player for that level. you've to keep teleporting home to heal. because you've just so little space to run around and he slows you down.
