His playing is absolutely amazing. French horn is the most beautiful sound in the world to me. And this makes me sad because it makes me think that I'll never sound that way.

I will never understand why Herman Baumann does that stupid vibrato. He's very technically talented, but it sounds silly to my ears. Listen to David Pyatt for a full, round tone and virtuosity without the vibrato.
Hmmm ...from "stupid" vibrato to "my opinion"...there is a big difference. I am not going to turn this into one of those silly arguments that people have on youtube. Cheers!
Why must people bring up things to argue simply because they know it's a topic of controversy? Why must we argue about if vibrato on the horn is good or bad? Everyone has his/her own point of view.
jameshornplayer: you are 12 and you can play all Mozart Horn Concertos, the Villanelle of Dukas and the Richard Strauss 1 concert? that can´t be true. So good is nobody. i am 15 and its hard to play all this things and i´m not too bad. i be in a hornclass from a german horn professor and i´m not too bad. but with 12 this is false. that can´t be
Well.....Just saw your vid and it is impressive for someone @your age. But: you are playing with the horn. To make music (~ to make some noise?) and "musizieren" is something different....And it sounds different. When you will have won your first competition for a big orchestra (let´s say the Chicago SO or the Berlin or Vienna Phil), leave message and I will be the first to congratulate you. But till then....Listen and learn from Mr. Baumann. ;-)
He says: Playing the French Horn is like Yoga. You have to be concentrated and relaxed. The Horn and your body have to become one thing. I am 50% autodidact because i realized what I came do with my body.
I've played horn for about 4 years now and after about a 30 min warm up I can sound almost as good but I still have plenty to learn before getting THAT good. What amazing control =D!
wagnerarg i really like you a lot for uploading these amazing clips im 12 and i can only play mozart horn concertos villanelle a nd strauss horn concerto no 1 thanks a lot

Because he can is a silly excuse. Does it sound good in terms of the music? I don't think so. My opinion, but I know many horn players who agree.

he can and he does it great, it sounds great so i see no good reason why he shouldn't do vibrato

I love his vibrato also. Just the right frequency for vibrato.

what i practice 3 to 4 hours a day just because you cant play it doesnt mean a younger horn player cant play better than you
jameshornplayer 3 years ago 2
You might be able to play them, but I would doubt very well. It depends on when you started playing.
DontJudgeHobos 3 years ago
i started 5 years ago and im doing amus this year
jameshornplayer 3 years ago
well that explains it. If you would have started this year, like most 12 year olds, then you wouldn't have been able to play them.

A bit movement in the tempi, not everything at the same speed, and a bit variation in the dynamique, not everything loud.
