I suppose this song is a little nostalgic sounding, but I wouldn't really consider it as one of the best.
LOL. You like the graphics, huh? As a kid, I always thought they were strange for some reason. It looks like... Donkey Kong Country graphics. XD I suppose it's interesting seeing a game with 3D rendering on a SNES. Besides, this was one of the last games for this system anyway.
I remember renting this from the local video store when I was a kid. I had no idea what an RPG was. Seven weeks worth of late fees was pretty expensive back in the day.
@onthehouse021 Good point, considering how easy this game was... more like "The Road is Full of Weak Monsters That Make This Game Even Easier than Final Fantasy Mystic Quest."
The sign of a good game: One day, years ago, I made a friend on the streets just because I was whistling this tune. Now, 15 years later, we're still close as brothers.
@Svenshinhan i know cod isent the best game but its fun as a change from tf2 and css but i made friends with many people at school that i wouldent otherwise
@bdfan4ever OMG! Thank you so much for pointing out the asinine hatred SE seems to get from nostolgic whores. While I agree they where the best in their golden age on the SNES & PS1, they still make wonderful games. Dissidia, Birth by Sleep and FF13 where amazing to me, Nier was great and is SO underrated. I'd throw in The Third Birthday, even with it's wacky plot, the gameplay is intense and rewarding. SE is the reason to buy a PSP really, along with Peacewalker and playing PS1 games on the go
It was developed by Cavia, another Japanese company (Now defunct, sadly) who did Biohazard Gun Survivor 4: Heroes Never Die/Resident Evil: Dead Aim as well as the Drakengard and Biohazard/Resident Evil Chronicles games.
Eh, I never played Dissidia but The Third Birthday seemed kind of bad... FF13 and Birth By Sleep weren't half bad though. I'd at least throw BBS as one of the few good games from this century. What's Nier though? I've never even heard of it sadly. :(
This was the first RPG I ever got into. When I first played it, I thought it played like a Mario game so I tried to kill a Terrapin by jumping on it. Then I realized it had turn-based fighting.
SquareEnix will never make games like this again. They lost too much talent when they merged. You'll never see the kind of star-studded development teams that were common in this era again.
@venom3carnage I wouldn't say that it's the best mario game in general. However, I agree that it's the best Mario RPG game. It's really better than all of the other Mario RPGs combined (eventhough most of them are great games).
@jseeker1867 Once again, wrong, Square made this game, which later went on to become Squaresoft and Square Enix, and I'm sorry, but one mistake by releasing FFXIV too early doesn't make them have bad games anymore, so cry some more, they still are a great company.
@king999999888888 If you think FFXIV was the only mistake and garbage game they've released you're delusional. SE is nothing compared to Square and Squaresoft which were two of the best companies ever. SE is a fail most the time.
@SegaRising Umm, Square, not Square Enix. Entirely different different companies, and as far as I can tell, the creative talent in Square left in the merger. So don't go giving SE credit for either company's separate ventures.
@SegaRising Wow, I guess even though I loved Final fantasy XIII, Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep, Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together, Dissidia, Crisis Core, Nier and The World Ends With You, those games aren't really good at all cause they are from square-enix, right? Honestly, hating on Square-Enix is pathetic. Get over yourself.
@bdfan4ever Well... Tactics Ogre is a remake, Dissidia is fanservice (although REALLY fun), Crisis Core is a FF 7 continuation so that doesn't count, I've never played TWEWY and don't like Kingdom Hearts... But I do agree that FF XIII and Nier are great games, but they're not AS good as the classics... I think that's what a lot of people mean when they hate on new SE. Just a little perspective.
@RedMageWolfe I'm in complete agreement about them not being anywhere near their golden age. I'm just saying that they still make great games and have the power to keep people intrigued about their projects.
@SegaRising You mean "Back when they were SquareSoft." Square and Enix didn't merge until the 2000's (as a result of Final Fantasy: The Spirit Within's losses).
@videohead85 Actually, the losses of that film actually made Enix concerned about the merger. The plans for the companies to merge are older than that movie's flop at the box office.
@videohead85 Actually, the losses from Spirits Within resulted in Sony buying a ton of stock in the company, resulting in them being overly loyal to the Playstation
Yikes, what crawled up your ass? FF6 is one I've yet to play so I can not argue with you, but I can understand why you think so for obvious reasons. Out of the Final Fantasy's I haven't played yet, FF6 is the one I want to play most.
My favorite is FF9 followed by FF4(DS version, but whatever). 7, 8, and 10 had their flaws but I still found them enjoyable enough if not for their battle systems alone. All I know is that I will probably never touch 11, 12, 13, etc.
I played the demo that came with Dragon Quest VIII and I did not like it. It felt too similar to an MMO, which I also hate. Also I did not like that I could control one character at a time. Which is also why I dislike FF13.
By calling us "a bunch of JRPG faggots" then saying "the last good one was 6", you just contradicted yourself. Unless of course you're referring to yourself as a faggot. I wonder who the "stupid kid" is now?
@JGigs93 6 was a western-influenced steampunk style game. 7 and everything after was just shitty anime with an unplayable storyline. But keep defending yourself.
@zsybrant 9 was still pretty good though, and even if the story kinda sucked at least 7 and 8 had the traditional gameplay. 10 was when the series really went downhill, and don't even get me started on how much X2 sucked.
FF9 had much more traditional gameplay than FF7 and FF8. 7 and 8 had you assign attribute/ability stuff to characters when 9 made everything simple and each character was unique. I would say that the story of 9 was better than the one in 7 and 8. 10 really is the turning point going downhill since some characters were annoying as well as other aspects, but the battle system was still alright. As for X-2, the ONLY thing I thought was good about that game was the battle system.
@KamonSensei Most of the people who made Mario RPG work on the Mario & Luigi/Paper Mario series you know. They don't use the same styles but they did leave Square.
@KamonSensei Actually I don't think Enix had anything to do with it. Sakaguchi leaving was probably more responsible than anything. Lost Odyssey was fantastic...
Love this piece. So many memories. This game had it all, solid rpg, story, new characters, sidequests and tons to collect. Probably going to go fire up the ole snes
I'll always remember this particular track since it's the first one you hear when the adventure truly starts. I rented this game as soon as it came out and I was blown away by the graphics.
