@Cloudkicker000 Thank you. It is because of positive comments by viewers that I have continued adding videos. Its a pleasure to think of folks around the world virtually enjoying our little Hampshire orchard
Thanks Monika. You are right, but we already have 40 gallons of cider vinegar we don't have a market for.
We are what they call 'hobby farmers' and too busy to manage the orchard with maximum efficiency. Shame, but better than nothing. I spend over 40 hours a week on the 'daytime job' and we have a handicapped 22 year old.
Julia informs me that approximately 60% of the Laxton's Epicure crop have been sold, so the waste is less bad than I thought. Later maturing apples keep better
Have you thought rather than making cider from those fallen apples, making apple cider vinegar? I mean, the taste is not necessarily what people look for when they buy the vinegar of cider but it is known for it's health benefits which is why anyone buys it in the first place! It wouldn't be that much harder to make the vinegar, it just requires an element of time, but once you've made it, you can store it until you do something with it. I so admire your orchard!
Shame about the waste, but I understand the situation. I only have a few apple trees and i had to remove my apples yesterday as the birds had ruined about a 1/4 of them over a couple of mornings.
have you ever thought of getting geese to eat the fallen apples??

sorry this video is so badly pixellated, don't know why the original is much better than this.
