  • i just want that wiener dog sweater

  • that was silly

  • HOLY...Sonic 1 AND 2 back in the day for free? Damn, that was one awesome deal! O_O

  • Aww, I miss old-school SEGA commercials.

  • Oh crap the offer ended on 4/15/93, thanks a lot for letting me know Sega

  • sonic 2, the what every handy man needs

  • the fries look fucken nasty

  • @xLITETROOPER They weren't cooked... Lol

  • That's why I bought my copy of Sonic 2...it fit into my tackle box, so I could make fries everywhere I go. Now that's Blast Processing.

  • BLAST PROCESSING!

  • The memories...... I miss commercials like this. Nowadays you are likely to get sued for false advertising unless there is a giant "Sonic 2 not to be used for the preparation of food or cleaning of furniture" disclaimer.

  • Thanks for the memories....Sonic 2 is still my favorite game to this day. Best Christmas ever when I got it :)

  • lol NO COD! 0:27

  • That shit better come with a SHAMWOW.

  • billy mays would be proud

  • the guy who id the voice for this commercial did all the voice over work for disney's trailes

  • Such value! Look at that blast processing!

  • i bet kids of the future would look at are PS3 and XB0X360 AND WII commercials and be like

"$130 for that shit??? there isnt even any holographic gameplay in it :/ "

  • I REMABER THAT COOL GOO SEGA

  • still have my sonic 2 cart in my tackle box after all these years..its helped me catch a ton of fish.

  • Yep, I actually had a TurboGrafx and played Bonk's revenge a ton, but then I saw a Genesis with Sonic the Hedghog demo, and I was BLOWN AWAY. it looked so much better than crappy Bonk. Got a Genesis for Christmas that year

  • If Sega came out with a new system I would definitely buy it

  • @dubified89 i think we all would. lol

  • lol

  • Back in 1993 when this commerical came out on tv,I went to an "underground-party"(better now known as "Raves")call,"Sonic 2"(the flyer had Sonic the Hedgehog on it).

  • I passed on this and got the one with Streets of Rage 2!

  • 54.99!!! WOW was it really that much?

  • @mew273

When it was new it was. New games always cost about $50. Sometimes even more, like some of the Phantasy Star games. I remember seeing Lord of the Rings for Super Nintendo being sold for $70 at Kmart.

  • @wtcvidman i paid $70 new for chrono trigger back in 1996 from electronics boutique

  • @AlirazaVideoGames

There were some really expensive games like that back then. I remember Lord of the Rings for the SNES was $70 or $75 at Kmart. Phantasy Star IV for the Genesis was also at least $70. But those were rare cases. Most games were much cheaper and their price was lowered much quicker. I bought Link's Awakening brand new in 1996 (3 years after it came out) for $12.98. New Super Mario Bros for the DS is still $35 & it's been 5-6 years since it came out.

  • @mew273 Yep. I remember my mom paying $78 for Strider on Sega Genesis. She was very upset. And to think now we have "Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection". That's 50 games for $19. How times change.

  • @mew273 i just bought it for $4 from xbox live arcade

  • @mew273 How old are you?

  • @Slayerfan777 Not old enough to know how much games cost in the 80`s.

  • @mew273 yeah? just as much as any game

  • @mew273

When I was about 7 years old I bought my first console, got Sonic 2 and Sonic&Knuckles. Cost me about $170.

  • @RectalDiscourse WOW and think of the Sonic games now like Sonic Unleashed or Sonic Generations all so cheap compared to the 16 bit Genesis games.

  • @mew273

When I was 5, my father got us a NES. I started on Mario Bros., Rad Racer etc. Then when I got that Genesis, I've been a Sonic fan for 20 years. Sonic Adventure was okay, but it's all been crap. Nothing will ever compare to the glory of the 16-bit era sonic.

  • @RectalDiscourse

    also fuck grammar.

  • @RectalDiscourse True that anyways, what is your favorite Sonic game?

  • Damn it SEGA commercials were so wacky and goofy. How could you not buy the games... BLAST PROCESSING!

  • I got a master system for Christmas 1988 I think, then mega drive in 1990, after that super nintendo (self bought in 1992). And every console was precious and classy, pure adrenalin to play and buy new games for us kids back then! Today, PS3, Xbox360... so boring, no exciting adrenaline rush anymore, stoopid games just for the looks with no interestign gameplay etc. Why is that? Cos I'm grown up now and no kid anymore?I want the fascination in games back! Well Nintendo Wii & (3)ds are cool imho!

  • weiner dog sweater sold separately

  • Hard to believe that next year will be 20 years since Sonic 2 was released. I wish I still had the T-Shirt they gave me on launch day. I also remember one of the codes for the game. 1-9-9-2-1-1-2-4, the release date.

  • 0:17 looks like beta sonic

  • made from space age polymer plastic.. lol

  • alter beast was the shit

  • @apolanco602

Yeah. I remember the local Toys R Us had it for people to try out & it was the first time I saw a Genesis game, and shit I wanted the system & the game. Didn't get that game till a year or 2 ago though. Great port of the arcade game.

  • @wtcvidman i never owned one i have a nes but its funny now sega makes games for nintendo and the rest

  • @apolanco602

I got my NES for Christmas 1988 & got my Genesis some years later, I think in 1993 or 1994. Before getting it, I got a Super Nintendo, but my mother & brother nagged me to return it so much that I did & later got the Genesis. A few years later around 1995-1996 my brother got the SNES console that came with A Link to the Past. But I think it was before that happened that Genesis I got was messed up & the controls weren't working properly anymore.

  • @wtcvidman lol those were the days wasnt it

  • @apolanco602

Through some luck I was able to return both it & the Sega CD I got since that were both open & I took the money I got from those returns & saved some more to buy my Sega CDX, which is a compact Genesis & Sega CD in one. The CD part unfortunately crapped out a few months ago, but besides that, the console is great. I'm pretty sure it's the motor of the CD that's messed up & probably because I hit reset too many times when I was trying to beat a record of mine.

  • @wtcvidman lol damn

  • @apolanco602 ....you mean, "Altered Beast"?

  • @mireaux7 i love that game i have it for the psp

  • lol!

  • "weiner dog sweater sold seperatly" LOL

  • i feel so complete now

  • SEGA GENESIS: SNES'S EVIL COUSIN.

  • @wtcvidman oh I See, I was Living in New York around this Time and do remember this commercial like it was yesterday, also lets not forget that This was the same Year Raw Premired January 11 1993, Sonic 2 was only 2 months old and when i first Got Genesis , It had only came with Sonic 1, at the Time, Genesis N64, Dreamcast , are My All Time Favorite Consoles Growing up in the 90's

  • I got this promo back in 1993 with my Genesis! I was so excited when Sonic 2 came in the mail, I played that game nonstop!

  • Andre the Giant passed Away a few Days Earlier, before the Airing of this Commercial

  • SEGA KNEW THAT SUPER NINTENDO WAS COMING, SO THEY HAD TO SHELL OUT MORE SYSTEMS OUT AND GAMES IN PROMO BEFORE THEY CAME OUT LOL

  • LOL This commercial always made me laugh

  • lol I have that exact Genesis box O_o

  • super nintendo didnt have cartrdge that can cover bald hair, dice vegtables and get rid of stains

  • this commercial was years ahead of its time.

  • So did anyone notice that the guy doing the voiceover is the same guy who did all the Disney movie voiceovers in the 90's?

  • @blinkfan305

You're right. That is him. Good catch. Didn't he do the voiceovers for the commercials when the movies were released on VHS?

  • @blinkfan305

I have a commercial for the Great Mouse Detective VHS release uploaded & I think it's the same guy.

  • @wtcvidman He did. His name is Mark Elliot.

  • @blinkfan305 Yeah this does sound like Brian Cummings speaking.

  • One of the few Genesis commericals that wasn't completely insane

  • When I first saw this commerical those years ago, I took it WAY too literally!

  • My sonic 2 box did everything in this video but make fries.

  • @bmoviefanrude You obviously didn't use the sharp case edges properly then.

  • Sonic Is The Best Game Ever Cleans Spils Covers Baldspots And You Can Play It!!!!!! Take That Mario Kiss Sonics Blue ASS

  • @TakerTV1 Or you can stop playing favorites and just play both. They're both amazing franchises.

  • WOW i remember that

  • Remember this was the deal I got when I first purchased my Genesis way back in the day... and what a good deal it was! Sonic 2 was one of the hottest games on the market back then and giving it out for free really sold Sega a lot of systems.

  • sounds like a billy mays comercial!

  • Holy Shit!! I Remember this commercial.

I Bought my Sonic 2 Game on Sonic Tuesday " November 24 1992

It was a Raining That Day here in New York.

    *memories.....

  • @westport17782010

This was a damn good deal getting a game that was about 2 months old at the time for free if you buy a new Genesis console. There's a code in Sonic 2 where if you put in the date of Sonic Tuesday, something happens (I forgot what). I think you have to do it at the sound test screen. I have to look it up again.

  • @wtcvidman its debug mode i think the code is 1 9 9 2 1 1 2 4

  • @wtcvidman what happens?

  • @TheAmazingMirror

It takes you to debug mode. You have to play the BGM music in the following order: 1, 9, 9, 2, 1, 1, 2, 4.

  • @wtcvidman I know how to now and what is :) thx tho

  • *Insert Disney's advertisement guy's voice here*

    Noticed that just now. xD

  • Sonic...it only does everything.

  • is that shit real? its so crazy i cant tell.

  • GREATEST GAMING COMMERCIAL EVAAA....

Back then Sega really did some out there commercials

  • God, I wish commercials were as awesome as they were back then for games. It's not even an novelty anymore; all about taking the business seriously. I found the Genesis a lot more appealing this way compared to if it had a "traditional" commercial like most of Nintendo's did.

  • I find this to be very effective advertising.

  • WEIRD...but funny! I now have that in the SEGA Genesis Collection on PS2.
