  • 'Seeing Roman Britain", mentioned by another poster, is an excellent book.

  • @DroidNoid Yes there is Caesars camp near Finchampstead and Bracknell. If you check out my videos you will find one about this site. Not much known about Caesars camp hillfort but you will find some information with my video.

  • really lovely! atmospheric... and nicely crafted

  • Ran out of text, yeah in 'Seeing Roman Britain' by Leonard Cottrell (1956) the author had probs finding Calleva, so nothing much has changed!. Those hedges approached Silchester are very claustraphobic.

Oh you get a nice lunch @ the Calleva Arms.

  • It's a great site, & grand to walk around it on a scorching warm day , as I did on the 23rd of June 09. The Church is lovely, plus a nice respite from the heat. All the more interesting being sited on the remains of 2 temples.

Well worth the visit, just the one gripe, Hants council could signpost it's location better.Bsad enough me getting to it, but I was being driven by one that had been before.

  • Lovely another week and a bit & I'll be there...Can't wait!.

  • Love your work
