you re wrong, freedivers stop ventilating during apnea but the aerobic respiration (metabolism) continues on. At one point the diving reflex occurs and muscles work in an anaerobic metabolism but brain and heart get their supply in oxygen. Else, at each long dive you d get brain damage and that s irreversible => freedivers would get senile and paraplegic, ...
Such a long time without oxygen=damaging your brains.But respect for unbelievable performance.
