Meh, most Dimmu Borgir fans don't know shit about black metal. Same goes for all the idiots who only listen to Norwegian black metal from the late 80s / early 90's.

I bet none of you listen to decent bands that have came out of Norway in the past decade. Although, Stormblast was a belter, there is tonnes of better black metal out there, don't just listen to Emperor, Burzum, Mayhem, Gorgoroth, Dark Funeral, Ulver and Venom. Listen to more than that, expand your horions.

the thing is that their then keyboadist used others work for 2 song on the original stormbläst album - the intro to "alt lys er svunnet hen", "sorgens kammer", without the rest of the band knowing about it. That is the reason why they rerecorded the album in 2005. To me it honestly doesnt change the fact that the old stormblåst album is one of my alltime favorites, and that i love both the mentioned songs.

This was probably my favorite incarnation of Dimmu. I wish they would have stayed more moody and dark and less mainstream but what happpened has happened. I disagree that Dimmu Borgir "sold out". In my humble opinion I believe that Dimmu Borgir have outdone themselves in their newest release, Abrhahadabra.

If you think that a band sells out because they change their sound every album then you sir, are a fool.

If I bought an album and the band sounded identical to the album prior I would feel not only bored, but robbed.

The guitar work on the newer music is far superior to older Dimmu work.

Since we're on the subject. I'm surprised a lot of people don't mention the Mourning Palace melody stolen from Enya's Orinoco Flow. Which is a good thing, thats what got me listening to Enya. When I heard the "Sail Away" song and then the keyboard interlude came up, I was like "oh shit! So thats where I heard it before!". Enthrone Darkness Triumphant is argruably a better album than Stormblast, but stormblast sounds more Elizabethan Europe era and more sentimental.

Yes, he stole this intro, and Sorgens Kammer from two different video games on the original Stormblast album which is why it was re-recorded and why Aarstad was kicked out of the band. Aarstad also had to go and finish his time with the army because he left short of finishing his duty.

Stian wasn't kicked out for that reason. They didn't figure out he plagiarized it until the time for a rerecording came I think. But anyway, though it may be very un-metal for me to say this, but the keyboards are actually the highlight of early Dimmu. Stian had such a great ear for melody and effect. Though the guitars certainly churn out some amazing riffs and extremely melodic solos that are definetly worthy of mention etc. the keyboards seem to hold it all together. Not to diss the rest.
