I never thought I'd see the day when adults actually appear in a Peanuts cartoon.(you actually see their faces and hear them talk clearly;instead of only hearing"WAU WAU WAU WAU")
@U1986NuclearGrounds yeah even I don't have the attention span to do that is it any wonder why peppermint patty sleeps in class the worst one for me was charlie brown all stars
I theorize that when a special is drawn more poorly than usual, even fer THESE folks, then the characters introduced - namely, adults - don't look like they were drawn fer Peanuts. In fact, they don't even look like they were drawn in Schulz' distinctive style. In one shot with mayor and council singing out on the town, the townsfolk look as if they were drawn for another comic, Ziggy. So is this a regular special or a crossover?
@U1986NuclearGrounds We have this on VCR. I don't like it much; it just doesn't seem like authentic Schulz: Riverdance mice, mayor & council appearing more than the kids, and yes, they AREN'T drawn in Schulz's style
@U1986NuclearGrounds probably will, when my girls lose all interest in it. And that part when the politicians sing "Goodnite Sweetheart" has gotta go!
@chyman seems that Schulz was rolling with the times. Big mistake. I'm sure most old-school Peanuts fans like me would agree that he should've kept his style like it was in the years 1961-66
@SnowbirdFlock If anything goes on long enough, the people making it have to decide whether to get with the times and lose their old audience for a new one, or stay as is and keep their old audience at the expense of a new one.
Oh gosh, nostalgia. I always enjoyed watching Charlie Brown but I forgot how darn repetitive it can be, what with the repeating images, never-ending piano swanky music, and the circuitous dialogue that takes forever to get somewhere. Existentialism in cartoon form? :P Charlie Brown is one blase kid.
Throw in visits by some coyotes and the Head Beagle, and we got a deal. (But I still can't believe Charlie was gonna read War And Peace of all things to his sister. Ugh.)
Because it's boring. Sometimes you get a special that's genuinely entertaining, other times you get one that's as forgettable as the strips from the later years. The only real bright spot is that the Brown sibs finally resolve their bedroom issues. Also, the sports mice aren't particularly threatening; they're even cuter than Woodstock and his avian brethren. I guess Sally won't permit rabies, either.
Good song Schroeder plays on his piano.

The mayor and his council are examples of false protagonists, right?

Sally must just have chosen "The Pied Piper" because of the differences in weight. She must be a genius for how she weighed them.
Also, when Schroeder was playing the piano, was that supposed to be "Pathetique 2"?

This could've been the first in a mini-series that never was; a mini-series where the Li'l Folks reenact folktales.
"If you'll listen to Charlie Brown, Mr. Mayor..." Yeah, mayor. Didn't you hear?
Lucy's the boss
So listen to Lucy
And here's what Lucy says
"Promises are promises." And if you don't keep yours, a dog with an accordion and a bad outfit will come along and turn you into a bad singer.
