  • Passengers must've shoah bin kwik openen up dem windows 'gain ...

  • Great video !

  • i live here. im so lucky

  • OMG

  • Alot of folk still love the age of steam here in the UK and we had some good steam loco's in our day... But we have to admire the fantastic loco's that the Americans built!

  • 610; strange number! six, one, zero. If you translate in Italian: "sei uno zero" means: "you are nothing".

  • I had a cab ride on this loco back in 1991.

  • These trains are so fantastic :)

  • 1 Beautiful shot from Newman

  • this is so amazing...i fell in love <3

  • Road in the cab once. I remember the day, as it was the day Mark Maguire smacked the Maris tie breaker over the fence. My wife and I bought seats in the loco, and the cinders are a leetle hotter up front! She had on knit pants, and there were holes burned in them. Not only got to ride up front, got to ride thru the turntable exchange and the wye turnaround, no one else had gotten tickets for up front. Needless to say, the Mrs. gave here spot to a young Dad and his son on the return trip.

  • @erneywine: I have to say my wife is a trooper when comes to riding up in the cab of steam locos. She likes getting dirty with cinders. Always wear old jeans and don't wear a white shirt. Use to ride the NS steam excursions, I would get a laugh at some of the folks who would wear nice or white clothing on those trips. I would hangout in the open cars catching cinders in my hair. Needless to say I was very sootie when I arrived home.

  • Ayn Rand says you die if you run a steam locomotive through a long tunnel

  • uh-oh think i am dead!!!!

  • In order to conserve energy, the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off.

  • not only was this tunnel used for the "long black train" video by josh turner, but it was also in a movie called "Chattanooga Choo-Choo" starring barbara eden, and robert kennedy.

  • i remember when i was at steamtown when i was a boy ridding behind CP 4-6-2 #2317 goin through ol nay aug and getting cinders in my eyes.man i love that locomotive!!!!!!!!!!!

  • How were you able to get back there?

  • i wish CSX would fix up the old wye turn around in tullahoma, TN, because i live around there and the Tennessee Valley RR would bring this up here if the wye would support over 5 lbs in some places. seriously, half the wye is grown over and would only support a boxcab loco or something

  • I love trains and everything but if they're coming at you down the tracks, I'll admit, they are really scary.

  • nice one :)

  • That is one beautiful site ! 5 stars

  • interesting appearance

  • o i thought that was the hoosac tunnel?

  • this is the 610 from Josh Turners Long Black Train, right?

  • Yes! the 610 and the tunnel was used in Josh Turner's "Long Black Train" video. Great Song!

  • Excelente locomotora.

  • #610 has put me in the hospital one time with a cinder in my eye. That was cinder #1, cinders #2,3,and 4 were on Steam All the Way on 9-30-06, and cinders #5 and 6 came from Dollywood #192 in October 07.

  • Don't forget to wear your goggles next time. Yes, I have caught a few myself while riding behind the J611 and the 1218 to Chattanooga and other long trips. And do they hurt!!!

  • Been through there too, combine the beauty of the Smoky Mts. and the beauty of steam and you've got an excellent combination.

  • Aw man, at least they could have blown the whistle for you!

  • this looks like the plase were thay shot the music video long black train

  • Ding, Ding, Ding, You are Right! and the 610 was the engine in the video. Wife & I love that song.

  • Actually, you can the side of the train where it says "Tennessee Valley" in the music video. Also, all the train scenes from the movie "Leatherheads" were filmed there.

  • An interesting fact about the tunnel is that one of the many battles in Chattanooga occured here and above. Each side had and intrest in protecting the railline going in and out of Chattanooga during the civil war.

  • Always enjoyed passing through that tunnel.

  • Great job - thanks for sharing. I've passed though that tunnel.
