  • My fav. Al Stewart song will always be "TIME PASSAGES" I first heard this wonderful song in 1979 on a T.W.A flight to Paris. It was instantly my fav. Thank you Mr. Stewert

  • I like cats and dogs..but I LOVE this song

  • Who's on alto sax?

  • @UglySean Dave Camp. My son's sax teacher and mentor in Denver. Pretty amazing, eh? Dave still plays locally around the Denver area. He's better than ever!

  • Insipid.

  • my cat loves this song! my dog, not so much!

  • @PANZERCAMPINO dont worry, i love this stuff, and i have done some serious analysis on todays music and society, and this stuff TOTALLY blows most of the new stuff away. But u guys are gong to a see a new band rise from the ashes, with great melodies and deep lyrics that convey to all classes. I'm only 20, but its a promise

  • This is the way the song should be played.....in front of a full orchestra. It gives depth to the song.

  • The great Peter White, originally hired to play keyboards before Al found out he was a monster guitarist, gets to show his chops on piano here.

  • this makes me cry

  • Unforgeteable!!

  • The sax player and the lead guitarist are not only talentened they are too cute!

  • This is the best version I have ever heard.

  • This is my favorite song of all time, thanks for posting this version.

  • Dave Camp on Sax !

    lucineide rauta

  • What a greatand beautiful souvenir cames to my mine!!, In summer 1977, I was at the university, felt in love with my future wife and this song makes me like that always happy young man!

  • @Pepealfredoromero That's absolutely great!

  • una casi clasica,,,,,

  • There's my buddy Stephen Recker on lead guitar!

  • a long lasting song, forever and ever

  • thank you.♥

  • VALEU!!!! BOM DEMAIS!!!!

  • A very underrated song. I don't think it ever it number one. Came out around 1978.

  • merveilleux souvenir

  • Wow! Simply WOW...

  • The lyrics are actually: She comes out of the SUN in a silk dress, running like a watercolor in the rain

  • 70's klass.....good ol days.

  • Year of the Cat is almost an epic song......A breathtaking sax solo. And in my humble opinion, one of the most THRILLING guitar solos in rock music history.

  • buen video hace rato no hacen mucica asi

  • Piekna piosenka.Thank you Al

  • how many people today have seen or know what a "bogart movie" is? or who Peter Lorre was?

Vero?

  • sono un maschio...

  • concordo contigo...simplesmente demais

  • Just a great song, I listen to it everynight before I go to sleep; it relaxes me.

  • The song wasn't about Cat Stevens..The title is from Vietnamese astrology and the song mostly taken in theme from the movie Casablanca..but also originally written in reference to a British comedian Al saw perform in 1966.

  • i believe he was singing about cat stevens am i rite?? rumor has it

  • Great video, Though I love the original old grey whistle test video which I can remember being allowed to stay up for.(It was on at 11pm)

  • Awesome!!!! Many memories. Best song ever!!! great Al!!!

  • Great song and one that will live the test of time.

  • Like a watercolour in the rain... it's POURING down here at the moment- worst I've seen for YEARS!

  • The most beutiful song of the everytime, es la mas completa de todas las canciones modernas, bellísima!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BOP 1978-2009

  • there is another video of him singing this on youtube and it looks like he is singing a truck stop. what's with that? went downhll fast? he's too good for that. they should delete those videos. lame.

  • This IS the BEST SONG OF ALL TIMESSSSSSSSSS! No song comes close to this 1976 iconic tune!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Anyone know where this took place or who the orchestra is?

  • I never tire of watching this video. Al is amazing, as always, and the orchestra is merely a wonderful bonus.

  • Of course, we all know very well this song from 1976. But this is really a bit of a thank-you-live-version from 1988. Very impressive! Many Thanks for sharing it!

One of the BEST SONG in the WORLD

  • very strange the love from men to .....Cats!!! Surely we love cats......;-)

  • Is the guy playing the sax the same guy that plays on Gerry Rafferty's Baker Street?

  • @zona85635 no. That was Raphael somebody on Baker Street. Forget his last name, but different guy

  • Jerry Rafferty?

  • Raphael Ravenscroft has played saxophone (and sometimes French horn and winds) for artists ranging from Marvin Gaye to Pink Floyd, but he will likely be remembered best for just one song -- Gerry Rafferty's late '70s mega-hit "Baker Street," on which he played what was probably the most well-known saxophone part in an entire decade of popular music

  • @JohnPKusumi

In terms of musical creativity, Gerry Rafferty ran a very close second to Al Stewart. Very sadly, he passed away only a few months ago.

'Year of the Cat' remains my favourite of all time.

  • Bellissima!!

  • One of the best songs ever.

  • Splendid poetic song, wonderful evocative music

  • Not a huge fan of sax, I like a few bits with sax by The Psychedelic Furs - "Sister Europe", Tears For Fears - "The Working Hour" (as a couple of examples) and I got to say, this song has one of the KEWLEST sax parts I have ever heard... Used to get goosebumps when I listened to this as bumper music to Art Bell on Coast To Coast AM... He LOVED the sax on this... So do I... If you're reading this, What's Up Art? Miss you at the helm of the show...

  • It's the great song!!!!!

  • Grande!!!!!!

  • As good a pop song as any, IMHO, a classic - great melody, solos, lyrics, perfection.

  • gran concierto.....

    gran cancion...

    grandes epocas de la musica

    70,80 90s

  • Pienso Lo mismo =)

  • are you watching the same video as I am?? looks like 1000's of people waving their arms and holding up "lights" to me.

  • Who give a fuck about the Dutch! I love him anyway and I am from the USA... he is handsome here....

  • wow!!!!!!!!!

  • I love Al Stewart....but did you get a load of that stuffy audience! Coats and ties!

....just sitting there! Amazing...all that pent up stress......nowhere to go....

  • Great concert indeed!!!

What with this staid Dutch crowd ???

They just sit there with this "What the Hague" attitude!!!!

  • Actually, it's 'Flemish' crowd ;).

And then again, if you see other videos of those days, audiences were meant to be quite staid, no matter how enthusing the song :).

  • Awesome song!!!!!

  • "She comes out of the crowd.

    Like a watercolor

    Running in the rain."

Its poetry! I love the mood of this song - unexpected meeting, some moment of hearts encountering each other, knowing this is all so in passing. Moments, Chapters, and Days ..its surreal and he captures it in this song!

  • i love al he is awsome totally cool so my dad has his his cd but he whants the time passeges cd and he is awsome and cool go al stewert

  • I take alto sax lessons from Dave Camp in colorado, he is not so stylish these days =) Not so much hair =)

  • A great live rendition of a classic song! Thank you to yukiyuki33 and not forgetting Al Stewart and his associates!

  • I love this song, thanks for posting

I made my own video singing this beautiful song,if you want you can give me your opinion

    watch?v=vB--br6vXrU

  • LOL, at 5.35, spots a girl and sort of impregnates her with the rightious sax licks. genius song

  • This was in the Sportpaleis in Antwerp for the Night of the Proms in 1988. I was there and it was fantastic!

  • Definitely around 1988 - take a look at him in this vs. the YOTC album cover. He's clearly older and has a different hair style.

    I've seen him 18 times;I should know.

  • I agree with eightdozenroses here. There's no way this is late '70s. Plus, AFAIK, Al was not playing with an orchestra in the '70s at all. Looks like late '80s to me.

BTW, is that Peter White playing the guitar solos? It doesn't really sound like him. Is it the "Steve Recker" mentioned in the info section?

  • Peter White is on keyboard.

  • the lead guitarist is my uncle :) like i never knew until like yesterday he fuckin rallys lol

  • Sexy little devil too.

  • This is my fav song8->8->...I want to stay in the year of the cat8->

  • Al Stewart rocks my world and has for over 30 years.

  • Thanks for the great Video! Some may not know that the piano player is Peter White - the smooth jazz guitar player (who now lives in CA)...and has some 10 albums out - check him out. He played organ in the original 1977video song clip and played guitar on the Al Stewart song "On the Border."

  • Yes!! that's correct...he, just like Al Stewart, is, damn it's been said so many times "underrated".

This is good stuff and these guys are the best. Highly talented and this era yearns for such music and talent!!! Time Passages take me back to the days of Al Stewart.....

  • thanks for sharing this. a timeless melody and a magical phenomenan in rock history.

  • Al..man !!! I loved you then... I love you now... And I guess I will always love you. You heal my soul... you heal my soul...

  • he heals your soul eh?

  • LOL

    =]

  • Give Al a break. This is a more up to date version of the late 80:s I isnt going tosound like 1976. Live performances are risky you dont know what is going to happen. you just wing it.

  • This is much earlier. I'd say closer to 78 then 88- by 88 Peter had left and was playing with Basia...and in 88 he was playing much smaller gigs.

  • Great song man!

Yeah his singing might not be THAT great but for me it's the collabo of instruments that makes this song. I mean that saxx solo sent chills down my spine! Great sound.

  • PS Thanx for posting. :)

  • cant sing his own song? mayajeffery is smoking crack great post thank you

  • the best performance I have seen on You Tube. Al Stewart is fascinating. So is Peter White. Love it!!!!!!! the guitar and sax solos are so hot!

  • drums aren't very loud

  • fantastico, lo máximo, gracias

  • He's still great and all of them! he sings still great! I wish I have that concert but here in Canada don't like good music, I'd to listen on the border and others, I love this country but the taste of music is not good! well I have to understand time changes and people don't like this kind of music anymore, wich the time don't go by so fast, and that guy that says that has this video I would like you to post other songs if you please, take care everyone and God bless you, bye!

  • He sounds good to me. Great Talent.

  • Great live performance. Especially the fantastic alto sax solo at the end. Wow! I wish I were at that "live concert."

  • thank you for posting the live version, I love it.

  • this is great music

  • Thank you thank you thank you, I've been trying to find a live version of this with the strings!!! ahhhhh When where what and is this whole concert obtainable somewhere?

  • I've got a tape of the whole concert and will try to post it soon. We played three nights and the keptthe best of it. There's some good stuff there. Al is awesome.
