Were not Britain and America both AHEAD of Germany militarily, strategic 4-engine bombers, more ships, submarines etc.) in the late-30's? I don't know about the budgets, but even so, without superiority maybe they would have spent more. Hitler didn't even have the material to invade the west in France until May 1940, and then only stealthily because they simply didn't have the troops etc. And Germany's economy was highly interventionist anyway?

Defence spending is a necessary evil. The failure to arm leaves you dependent on everyone else sharing your pacifist ideals. I abhor war and violence, but I understand that in the real world not everyone thinks like me.
I don't understand Obama's reasoning. Either he's an idiot or he's deliberately trying to cripple America on someone else's behalf. How does decreasing your defense give you more security? Is a murderer or mugger you less likely to attack you if you throw your gun away?

I'm not against you, but instead of downsizing the military what do you think about putting them on our borders to catch all of the Middle Eastern heroin coming in. We haven't had this huge of a heroin problem since the 60's-70's. Citizens who live around our southern borders have posted videos of Mexican cartels bringing in huge quantities of heroin that the Middle East brings in through South and Central America. Looks like there needs to be a re framing of this argument. Anyone with a modicum of political awareness realizes that the political spectrum is vastly flawed and any arguments made using the left/right false dichotomy of the political spectrum are rendered instantly irrelevant. Using that spectrum, Stalin and Ghandi fall about the same place. I'd frame it as more or less free. Oh and comparing presidents is flawed too. Too many other variables than just who was the POTUS.

No other candidate but Ron Paul will balance the budget and fix the economy. If you don't fix that you'll go bankrupt anyway, and intervention won't be possible anymore. So choose wisely.

@MrHamncheez yeah that backlash and this backlash were created by william kristol and his neoconservative friends. starting rumors healthcare reform is communism, while all he did was create mandate and force insurance companies to compete beyond state lines. if that is communism what will you call what is going on in germany, britain, cananda, and all other industralized nations. rumors like the one about his birth certificate are the same as whitewater with clinton they are bogus claims.

But there are MANY quotes from the Framers and Signers re:God. "that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights,". Now, Mr Alecaf, "their Creator" what does that mean to you. @MrAlecaf Seperation of church and state was to keep the govt. from messing w/religion not the other way around. Read a little Ben Franklin on the matter, or Thomes Jefferson, or George Washington. I am not arguing against libertarianism, or classical liberalism. I clicked on this video because I am truly interested in hearing what this man has to say, much of which is very interesting.
But do you really feel that the election of Obama can be compared to the rise of Hitler? If so, show me the facts and statistics that back it up. Point out the historical parallels. I, for one, can’t see them.

@periechontology please tell me things obama has done to the left of clinton? they both tried to set Universal Healthcare and failed. They both bombed a foreign nation and Obama even continued two ilegal wars and at leats one illegal prison. Clinton raised taxes while Obama lowered them for %95 of Americans and continued the Bush tax cuts. It seems to me Obama is to the right of Clinton.

@kandy1958 sorry to break your heart but "obama care" is not universal healthcare, its a healthcare mandate kinda like the one the republicans wanted in the 90's. Universal healthcare is what every country with a higher standard of living than the US has, you know UK, Switzerland, Canada, France, Sweden, Gernany, Japan you know those places with zero crime and were people live till their mid 80's not like in America were people live till their 70's with numbers lower than puerto rico

Lets see the countries mentioned had UH, the US with "OBama Care" doesn't, health care is still given by insurance companies not the government. The countries i previously mentioned all give their citizens Health Care paid for by taxes sometimes lower that in the US Obama lowered taxes instead

Looks like there needs to be a re framing of this argument. Anyone with a modicum of political awareness realizes that the political spectrum is vastly flawed and any arguments made using the left/right false dichotomy of the political spectrum are rendered instantly irrelevant. Using that spectrum, Stalin and Ghandi fall about the same place. I'd frame it as more or less free. Oh and comparing presidents is flawed too. Too many other variables than just who was the POTUS.

Sowell (whether you think he should or not) cares nothing for diplomacy or aesthetics in his writing or speaking, only ideas.
The pathway to Hitler (national SOCIALISM) and to all of the great evils of the 20th century is excessive government power; PERIOD.
