Oh boy, I struggle with hording. I mean, I'm not disgusting with it--but I have a lot of "stuff". I also have a hard time giving up stuffed animals, but I find it a lot easier if I give it to a friend, or to a donation store. Sometimes you need to just bite the bullet and get rid of things. I have the same mind set as "Well, what if I need this later..." and it's a very hard cycle to break. There are a lot of underlying reasons for hording, but, here's hoping you're able to part with some stuff!
I love to hoard things, but I am not excessive. It's not interfering with me or anyone else (except for being unorganised lol) so it's not really a problem. I've always collected my school work and things like that. When I was young, I had a fear that
I would lose my memory, so instead I collected 'physical memories' of who I was and the time I lived in. This is starting from 6 years old, I still have that stuff. But it's all filled away in the shed. I like to collect things too.
You've got Hello Kitty, I have electabuzz, a Pokemon. I have merchandise from all over the world of that pokemon... I've been meaning to show it off in a video ever
@TheNightRevealed yah, sometimes I hoard more than make use of things. I read books, but I have a lot of unread books. I wear shoes, but I have more than I need. I had my college notes for years, then I had the same revelation as you. I really didn't know why I was saving them!!!
@TheNightRevealed I am in college and I have notes from elementary school. I look at them once a year though - some of it (not the math) is fascinating.
Hey! Nice video! I collect books to read in the future and sometimes its years before I read them, if I ever do. I used to say it was in case a new dictatorship government closed the libraries down. I donated stuffed animals before years ago and I still miss them and wish I had some of them. I am attached to things because they remind me of moments in my life that I'd otherwise forget. I could list every memory but an item explains it so much better.
@MachineAmbition I totally know what you mean! I think I'd be sad if I got rid of all of my stuffed animals too...and there is no way I would voluntarily get rid of all of my books!
Where did you get that cute dress from? I love it and want to have it, too! :D
Ah, and I'm also an absolute book hoarder- I cannot bring myself to throw them away and am practically unable to go past a bin of cheap novels without buying some. Books are an important part of my personality- they help me deal with my pain and give me strenght to handle my problems. Getting rid of some of them would probably hurt me very much.
@blackfoxlady i got my dress from LoveYourPeaches, but I think she is out of the cupcake fabric. She has some other cute fabrics in right now. Her stuff is kinda expensive, but worth getting a couple of things and she can alter the sizing to fit you personally too!
hello, there appears to be an interesting pattern with your hoarding and some of it is motivated by the colour and design of the different things, statbucks cards for example and the illustration and print of books. Your dress and its pattern appeals to you, and i know you are quite artistic. These are all positive traits.
I know hoarding can be a terrible problem but surely there is nothing so sad as someone who doesnt have any interests and lives in a sterile enviroment.
@bigbear359 this is true bigbear! A lot of the stuff I have appeals to my artistic side and the book I was reading about hoarding said that many people with hoarding issues actually see the world in a unique way and can appreciate the details of life that others overlook. The only problem is when it is completely pathological.
I found a shredding machine in the garbage ( i live in a very big city) and got rid of TONS of old mail and papers. It was very satisfying to shred stuff into long paper strips and then throw it out. Some of it was recycled for packing things to mail but most of it was KICKED TO THE CURB literally.
@gypsylovemonkey yah, sometimes I want to buy stuff for other people. My mom does that too...she'll buy gifts not knowing who she will give it to or when she will give it.
It's good to see you Kristen. :) I like your new dress.
I am a hoarder of books and other things, too. I am doing better, though. Neither you or I are like the hoarders on those shows. lol
I worry and have anxiety, also (Gad). It is no fun!!!! The worst part is when someone tells you to just, "Get over it." It hurts when your feelings are not validated. They don't experience the same feeling,s so they have a tendancy to just dismiss my feelings. Ugh!!! lol
@PuffyCatTail Hi Puffy! Glad to hear from you! You are right. I'm not quite as bad as the hoarders on the TV shows thank goodness, but I can understand some of what they are thinking by keeping things. AND yes, saying "just get over it" is like saying just get over cancer or something! Love and hugs to you too!
Cute cupcake top. I love cute stuff like that. And what I am slowly learning in life and that others actually do have the same worries and whatnot as others do. And while some people do a better job at hiding it, for the most part we still have the same thoughts and worries. So you aren't alone. And I think a lot of people are hoarders. It's a coping mechanism. I'm guilty of it too. I am trying to cut down on things in my life but it's not easy. Good luck to you in doing it. :-)
I still have college papers and things, myself. I keep them in a file box--or two--since I can't seem to part with them. I have gotten rid of a number of things, but I still struggle with a few hoarding tendencies, myself.

P.S. I loooooove Converse! What size do you wear? Can I borrow a pair or two of your shoes? I especially adore the more updated Converse shoes.
@Luv4Learning Hi Colleen! Yah, it took me a while to throw out my college papers. I don't really know why I thought I'd need them. I love Converse too! I wear size 7/9. I don't normally loan out my shoes. lol
I'm a hoarder. I can't throw some things out like books or old college notes and letters. I've been trying to get rid of some stuff - Spring is the time for it I guess - but then I get stuck. For me it's like discarding my past as if it had no meaning/value but I never look at that stuff (if I did it would probably upset me) so it's silly really. I have a lot of anxiety.
@maximotion Maxi, yah, I understand and I think a lot of people who collect or hoard totally get what you are talking about. The book I just finished talked about this phenomenon where people think that getting rid of stuff feels like getting rid of themselves!
I love to collect dolls, teddy bears, old comics, National Geographics, things like that. My mom, before we knew that she has alzheimer's, had alot of stuff and these were things that she was not using anymore like old cookware, piles and pile of junk mail, etc, etc, etc, and I donated them (the cookware that is, not the mail. The mail was thrown away) I still have some of my toys from my childhood like my Mrs. Beasley doll.
@hunhun23 yah, the book I just read said that hoarding/collecting is most likely inherited! Can you believe that? I thought that was weird, but my mom has a lot of stuff too.
I love "Hoarders-Buried alive" on tv! I,too have 1500 dvd's..addicted and keep's growing...old comics-hundred's....I now was diagnosed with dysthymia,asperger's(adult) and ocd....taking celexa 20mg..Now let's do lunch cupcake!!!You sound just like me!!!
@Maiyanna No, I don't keep trash. I'm not quite sure when a person crosses the line between being a collector and a hoarder. I guess when the stuff becomes disabling in some way. I still need to get rid of more stuff.
both of my parents and my sister cant get rid of stuff, I am the topmost not hoarder in my family and my house still looks crammy so..
Can I ask you kirstin , do you have a bf ? greets from Holland ! (I speak better german then you hehe)
