I want to know how can I install openfire with LDAP? I have active directory and i filled all info correctly(base DN and admin DN) but it doesnt work. do I need to install more in windows component?
I think it's an FTP Server that Is mainly used for internet communications such as Instant Messaging (MSN, ICQ, Y! messenger etc...) and VOIP (Skype, Vontage etc...)
Someone correct me if I'm wrong as I am intrigued and am not really sure how it works:)
@janX9 XMPP (Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol) was originally named Jabber. It is a protocol used primarily for instant messaging and is based on XML making it very flexible. This is a tutorial on how to set up a server that uses the protocol to send messages over an internet connection.
@thrillarecords Cool that's kinda what I was thinking. Come to think of it, there is an option on my iPhone for adding contact information and Jabber is in there :)
Thanks for explaining :)
So why do people Jabber when their are so many IM services out there that are less complicated? Is it for closed and private or secured messaging groups? Perhaps large companies or for hackers using it to do business? This is my assumption as It looks like it would be pretty secure.
@lorddragozavar 10.10.0.164:9090 is a private IP address, he is using this for demonstration purposes only. He has installed Jabber on a Server that is on his internal network. Internet Router's do not communicate with private IP addresses unless port forwarding or DMZ has been configured.
You need to install this on a machine on your internal network & then type the IP address of the machine you installed this on.
