@LuxeXx There is a tradition at MIT where students will drop a piano off a roof, and the first piano drop occured in 1972 (the picture on the cover of the album is actually a photo of the 1972 piano drop), so I assume that is why Tim Hecker chose that date. However, I am not quite sure what the dates 1978 or 1980 refer to.
Check out an article by Jonathan Kramer called 'New Temporalities in Music' (particularly the section in the second half that relates to 'vertical music' i.e. static). Its basically about how contemporary music, such as Tim Hecker, distorts our awareness of time in various ways. Really interesting and it gives an insight as to why this music is so appealing.!
"new temporalities in music"? that`s interesting, but basically intellectual wankery. there was nothing in the best works by reich, young, riley et al that did not "distort one`s awareness of time in various ways"!
must be the reason why, even though said music was made all those mayn years ago, it feels like yesterday. ;-)
Yeah, Insound is cool and all that, but ya know, you could order directly from Kranky records online shop at kranky.net. Cut down that midpoint between you and the artist... and the label. Just a suggestion.
@dj I didn't specifically think about a single director. But I definitely agree, Hecker to compose a movie score would be amazing. Really show some people something they never heard before potentially.
this man should do movie soundtracks if he doesn't already

@dj If we're going to play that game, I'd choose Duncan Jones or Christopher Nolan His aesthetic fits the Kubrick mold.
