People rely on the dyno too much. If this car only runs low 11's at that kind of WHP, there is definately something wrong.
What kind of tuning do they do here? Maybe it's detonating too much (engine go boom!), or running super rich. I would like to see the LTFT / STFT of this car on all rpms. What spark advance? What's the O2 in millivolts? Any scans? KR scans?
I have a G35 coupe. But I think this car is just a dyno queen and slow at the 1/4 mile track.
Same thing with a turbo, basically. They're not as easy to install, FYI. If you want a DIY project, superchargers are easy. DIY turbocharging is not as easy.
The most you will have to do is replace your valve springs with stronger ones and forge internals. If you get a supercharger and run 8 psi, you don't have to replace anything...you should be fine. Next I'd invest in some better suspension and wider tires to help with the extra power and put it to the ground, then go with forged internals and put a smaller pulley on the supercharger to make more boost. Also, somewhere in the mix, minor things like sway bars and strut braces wouldn't hurt.
forced induction is forced induction. it can make 1.8L beat out corvettes. and can turn your beloved engine into a pineapple grenade. no matter turbo or SC. just do some research and you can find anything. why would you want THAT much power on the road, i don't know. but thats just me. the tracks where itz at!
The best turbo for it is a supercharger. Vortech (SQ) trim. 350/300 and power from go. Even makes the "Wooosh" sound that makes everybody's dick so hard. I wouldn't fuck with turbo's unless you're prepared to open a can of worms you might not be too particularly fond of.
Not with the Vortech, man, but really it's all preference. The minute you change it from stock, it kind of becomes that way regardless. There's risk and riskier. The vortech unit for the G35 is stout.
If you go turbo be ready to spend some serious bucks. If you have decent SC @ conservative boost you should not have that many problems, but then again, you won't be putting out the same numbers.
Ive been looking at some superchargers for 350Zs, i guess the best one is stillen, it fucks the mpg people say but turbos are more dangerous to damage the engine, so i dont know what
Of course, because even at idle you are making boost with a supercharger. With a turbo, you can still drive for mileage while shifting conservatively. You can turbo it without replacing anything and run a low 8 psi or so. You won't see a huge increase in power, but it will be enough to make you happy with it and you won't need to replace internals. You might get away with higher @12 or so, too, I don't know much about 350Z's. Ask around.
haha yea the stg 3 supercharger with intake and a catback thats just as fast as it would basically be stock.the stillen cat is quiet and makes the supercharger sound like a keenee belle

866 hp and it still runs 11's! lol that sucks

you dont have to touch internals til you hit high boost. between 6-8 psi wont harm the engine
proudsubaruwrxowner 2 years ago
true even 10lbs of boost as long as you have taken precaution to other components.

@rahmani15 yes you can.

And to put serious boost through your SC isnt a rebuilding motors can of worms?

@Cordius
depends on the supercharger you get
a centrifugal won't boost as quickly as a roots, so you can't say it makes boost at idle.
caketech 2 years ago
True. Technically a centrifugal does make boost at idle, but because it's so minor your boost gauge wouldn't notice it. It'd be microscopic.

don't go with stillen... there is a video of a guys g35 w/ stillen supercharger and it has a high pitched annoying ass whining sound. go with vortech

all top mount superchargers (positive displacement setups) have that whine.

@2jz4fun wow
you haven't done your homework
stillen's aren't that great
go vortech or hks.
vortech being more common.
