I would have another option for Afganistan. Split it up like we did Korea. Leaving is not an option because many civilians would be wiped out and probably most of the Afgan Army. However if we create a line like Korea we fort it up and hunker down. Slow the bleeding. And then try to build a few bigger cities and fort those up. We really can't afford 40,000 ground troops, too expensive.

I'm pretty sure jobless claims will continue to decline and retail sales will increase all the way until the end of December. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that things almost always pick up during the 4th quarter of the year when it comes to sales. Obviously, a temporary increase in sales will lead to a temporary increase in jobs and thus less jobless claims. Seasonal work anyone? It's called force multiplier, with the Army, the Police (fed and local), Security companies, PMC's, and then you arm and train lets say Fish and Wildlife?.. hmm they did that. I would have another option for Afganistan. Split it up like we did Korea. Leaving is not an option because many civilians would be wiped out and probably most of the Afgan Army. However if we create a line like Korea we fort it up and hunker down. Slow the bleeding. And then try to build a few bigger cities and fort those up. We really can't afford 40,000 ground troops, too expensive.

As for the martial law issue; what most neglect to think of besides what you stated, is: even if the military was given the unlawful order to execute martial law; most troops would follow their oath to NOT follow an unlawful order. Even if that order is somehow made lawful, I assure you, most would refuse, to such an extent, that it would cause a break down in the military system. Simply put, it's totally unfeasible; hence the "domestic defence corp" Obama proposed. Worry about that coming.
